Grow Your Audience In 6 Weeks Or Less – PTC 419
There are two thing you need to do to grow your audience. First, get in front of new people who don't know you, and invite them to your show. Then, keep your listeners coming back week after week. Before you get started building your audience, you need to understand why you want to grow in the first place. THE AUDIENCE MISTAKE The one thing I want you to remember today is content drives business with relationships and authority, not sponsorships. Bring your listeners into your business. Many people want to grow their audience, so they can sell sponsorships. That is the worst thing you can do. And, I'll show you why in just a bit. This is going to be powerful for you today. Make sure you have a pen and paper to take notes. Many times we get training like this, we go to free webinars, or we attend seminars and get a ton of information. We get all excited. Then we go home or return to our "to do" list and we do nothing with the training. We never put it into action. I want to give you this strategy, so you can implement what you learn. Does that sound good? Nothing happens until you take action. No more guessing. Just the steps you can follow to build powerful, profitable relationships with your audience. Could you use that? Great! Remember, you just need to take action! MONETIZATION Many people make monetization much harder than it needs to be. It wasn't always easy for me. Over the years, I distilled it down into a step-by-step process to grow my audience and leverage that attention to make money with my podcast. If I can do it, you can, too. Let me give you a quick example. Zoë Routh is one of Australia's leading experts on people stuff in leadership. She helps leaders and teams overcome silos and turf wars to work better together. She has worked with individuals and teams internationally and in Australia since 1987. From the wild rivers of northern Ontario to the remote regions of Australia, Zoë has spent the last thirty years showing teams struggling with office politics and silos how to work better together. Zoë uses her podcast to open doors to her ideal clients. Rather than asking them to lunch or making a cold sales call, she invites those she would like to work with to be a guest on her show. Zoë uses her interviews to begin the relationship and really give value to these CEOs before she even starts talking about doing business together. That is my favorite way to use a podcast to land clients. You don't need a huge audience. You just need the right audience. Can you see how this one example could make a big difference in your business? Interviewing prospects on your show and building those relationships could be just what you need to land your next client. AUDIENCE EXPLOSION That is one example of making money with your podcast by attracting your ideal clients. It is about relationships and rapport. My Audience Explosion Blueprint consists of 3 easy steps. Don't make if more complicated than it needs to be. Don't get swallowed up by the tech. Just follow a proven process. On this episode, we are going to focus on growing your audience. They say public speaking is the most common fear. I believe it is probably the fear of failure while public speaking that paralyzes most presenters. You know what I mean. Music has always been a passion for me. But, I was always introverted and never dreamed of being on the radio let alone interviewing big stars. Three years into getting my architecture degree, I realized my career ladder was leaning against the wrong wall. By chance, I got a job at a radio station where my brother worked. I was a broke college student and needed the money. While working there, my passion for creativity and entrepreneurship returned. RADIO In radio, we would gain the attention of our listeners and sell that attention to clients. It was all about ads. I had a passion for creating great radio. The formula for successful radio equals great music plus great morning shows plus great marketing. It is all about creating great content with entertaining personality and then marketing the crud out of it. I have now gone on to interview many big names. Like George Strait, Ice-T, Zac Brown, Lady Gaga, Lionel Richie and more. Over 25 years of coaching talent and building effective marketing campaigns to serve clients and attract listeners, I have learned the effective traits of powerful content and marketing. I had a passion for creativity and to share my message. But with the big business of radio, I couldn't own a radio station. I needed a way to take what I've mastered and turn it into a business of my own. That's when I discovered podcasting. THE GURUS I saw all of these experts sharing their information online. I was following them all. I bought Brendon Burchard's "Millionaire Messenger". I spent a couple thousand dollars for Jeff Walker's "Product Launch Formula". I spend money on Russel Brunson's ClickFunnels. It was a lot of good money going out without much to show for it. I was following all of the magic formulas, but wasn't making the millions. Can you relate to that? How much have you spent on programs that didn't work? They say, "Just send an e-mail to your list." What most of these don't tell you is that you need an audience in order to have a list. And you have to build a relationship with that list before you can leverage the attention. I knew I had the knowledge. I just needed the vehicle to share it to build the relationships. That's when I began using my 25 years of knowledge and experience building client relationships to build a brand with my podcast and growing relationships rather than selling attention. IMPOSTOR SYNDROME But, it was crazy. Impostor Syndrome kicked in. I started to doubt myself. With podcasting, the platform was in front of me and the creativity returned. But, I started questioning myself. I knew I just needed to step up and believe in myself. I saw all of these other experts doing it. What couldn't I? The opportunity to own a radio station was gone. But now there was an opportunity to build my brand and attract clients with podcasting. The thrill of having full control of my content and help people was right there. So, I started demonstrating my expertise and attracting clients I could help. Over the past 9 years, I've been shaping all I've learned in radio to help other coaches and podcasters discover their possibilities. I've been helping them transform their information into entertainment, so they can use their podcast to attract their ideal clients and grow their business. YOUR OPPORTUNITY Now you have the opportunity to use this same process. I got lucky and found success. I fell into radio and learned by the school of hard knocks. You can now easily get in and find success without all the pain. Now, I tell you this not to impress you. I tell you this to let you know that if I can conquer the Impostor Syndrome, you can, too. If this introverted kid from a lower-income neighborhood can create powerful content on successful radio stations and podcasts, and can use that content to attract and help clients, you can as well. The best part … it won't take you years of living on $12k, working three jobs, fighting off the IRS, working through trial and error and suffering all of the bruises I endured. You just need to follow a plan. Your podcast allows you a great opportunity to demonstrate your authority while talking about a topic that you love. How great is that? If you structure the focus of your podcast properly, it can be an amazing tool to drive your business and generate revenue by building rapport. Using what I learned attaining my Masters in Business Administration, I have spent the last 30 years in radio refining how to create effective marketing campaigns to attract listeners and clients alike. I have used those skills to teach podcasters how to do the same since 2013. Publishing a podcast is a powerful way to let your potential clients to get to know, like and trust you. Your content helps build your authority in your niche and turn you into an influencer. But, how do you get noticed? How can you stand out in that sea of sameness? THREE WAYS There are three ways to share your content … video, audio or text. You can publish your content using blogs, YouTube videos and podcasting. There is one way I feel is best, and you can probably guess which format that is. Are you leveraging your content to its fullest extent to drive your business? If not, why not? Today, there are about 600 million blogs in the world today (Growth Badger). When was the last time you read a blog on a regular basis? In the video space, you are competing with 51 million different YouTube channels. YouTube also keeps changing the alogarithm which makes it incredibly hard to get your videos to go viral. It is hard to stand out and get noticed. However, there are just over 3 million podcasts right now according to Listen Notes. Only about half of those are actively publishing. The platform is still young. The opportunity for you is huge. Where do you want to compete? Would you rather try to be seen as one in three million or one in 600 million? Do you see how the opportunity with a podcast is wide open? Do you want to deal with all of the tech issues that come with shooting video? The lighting, the wardrobe, the teleprompter? Or, would you rather just roll in, turn on the mic and record with a lot fewer issues with equipment, time and hair? PORTABLE There are two other reasons podcasting is a better than other platforms for your content. First, podcasting is portable. Your ideal clients can listen while driving, working out, showering, running and many other places where reading and watching video isn't feasible. The numbers are also in your favor. Now is that right time to leverage your podcast. 39% of America now consume podcasts at least every week according to Jacobs Media's Techsurvey 2021. More than 109 million people in the U.S. over the age of 12 have listened to podcasts in the last month according to Edison Research. According to the Nielsen Company, the total podcast audience is growing at an amazing rate. Podcasting has seen 40% growth Over the last 3 years. Podcasting is huge and now is the time to get in. There is a bright future ahead. Create your podcast, so your content is on a platform that is portable, growing and still young with plenty of opportunity. The space is wide open for you. Now that we know podcasting is amazing, Are you leveraging your podcast to its fullest potential to build your authority and grow your business? If not, why not? GROW YOUR AUDIENCE You can start today to grow your audience. And, you can then leverage that attention to make money with your show. There are 6 steps to grow your audience and leverage your podcast to make money with your show. That's what I want to show you today. Before I share those 6 steps, I want to give you the solutions to the three big challenges experts face as they try to build their podcast and audience. CHALLENGES The three big challenges podcasters face are ... - They make it more complicated than it needs to be. - They have a poor strategy to attract their ideal clients and make money with their podcast. - They have no mentor to show them the way and hold them accountable. They simply don't know where to start. Let's talk about how you can easily overcome those three big challenges. COMPLICATED The first challenge I mentioned is that podcasters often make it more complicated than it needs to be. Simplify the process. There are 4 steps to creating a profitable podcast. Grow your audience. Build trust with that audience. Give them a resource to help them overcome their struggles. Finally, offer them additional help where they can pay you. 4 steps. It doesn't need to be any harder than that. Streamline your process and make it simple. Don't overcomplicate it. And stop chasing sponsors. NO SPONSORSHIPS The second big challenge I mentioned is that many podcasters don't have a strategy to attract their ideal clients and make money with their content. Many people believe sponsorships and advertising are the easiest ways to make money with a podcast. Untrue. In fact, those are the hardest. You shouldn't clutter up your show with ads. Instead, use it as a powerful marketing tool for your business and attract your ideal clients rather than clients for sponsors. Let me show you some reasons why sponsorships are the worst strategy you can take. First, it will eat all of your time. Radio stations have full teams that spend their entire day selling ads that listeners don't want. At my last station, we had a team of 18 selling ads 40 hours a week. At the same time, listeners are fleeing traditional media, because there are tired of sitting through all of the ads when there are other options. Don't jump into a market that is shrinking. Next, you only get paid once while your sponsors get paid over and over again. When you advertise for a sponsor, they pay you one time. They get paid every time a product is sold. You then need to go land another client to get paid again. Finally, few podcasts are big enough. Studies show that it takes roughly 5,000 downloads per episode to attract the big sponsors. Less than 7% of all podcasts are at that level. That means if you are like the 93% of the rest of us, you aren't even in the sponsorship game. You need another strategy. STRATEGY To make money with your podcast, you need to create a strategy that you can repeat over and over again. Focus on one strategy step-by-step until you reach success. That step-by-step process is my Audience Explosion Blueprint. It consists of six steps. PODCAST PLATFORM Step one is your Podcast Platform. This is your foundation and your why. TaVona Denise worked with me to build a strong foundation and a powerful "why" for her show. She worked as a nurse, but no longer loved the profession. She transitioned out of nursing into a new career. Soon, she began coaching other nurses to do the same and find the career they loved. This quickly became her purpose in life and she built her show around helping nurses launch their own businesses. POPULARITY FACTOR Step two is your Popularity Factor. This step helps people discover you. You get in front of new potential listeners and show them how you can help. This is all about partnerships, attraction and engagement. You want to find influencers who are already speaking to your ideal clients and partner with them. Greg Payne is the host of the "Cool Grandpa" podcast. He was around 350 downloads per month. After implementing the Audience Explosion Blueprint, his monthly downloads hit 854. When I put this step into place with my own show, I was able to double my downloads in the span of three months. I basically doubled my audience in 90 days. That was after 275 episodes as well. CONTENT CREATION Step three is your Content Creation. This is what you podcast. Your content gets people to listen to your show. Your content builds your authority and trust. This is how your ideal clients gets to know, like and trust you when you do it right. Sadie and Sausha created the "Meathead Test Kitchen" podcast. They talk about content they love and interview influencers in their niche. They've interviewed Olympic athletes, MMA fighters, renowned chefs, and various other powerful people in the niche. The two of them do it with a flair and sense of personality only these two tatooed ladies could deliver. In the first episode, you know exactly who they are and what you get. There's no holding back. INFLUENCE ROADMAP Step four is your Influence Roadmap. People may come for your content. They keep coming back for your personality. Build relationships with your listeners. Jedlie is one of my clients. He has the "Reading With Your Kids" podcast. Jedlie is a magician, clown and performer. He brings that personality to his show and builds relationships with his audience. STARTING STRATEGY Step five is your Starting Strategy. Without a roadmap, you can't hope to get where you're going. You need a strategy. Let me show you a case study that will show you how this works. When Oscar Trimboli came to me for coaching, he had the desire to strengthen the connection between his podcast and his consulting business. Season one of his podcast consisted of interviews. He was headed into season two and wanted this season to be more about teaching his five levels of listening. Oscar Trimboli is a mentor, leadership coach, speaker, author and podcaster. His podcast and book are both entitled "Deep Listening – Impact Beyond Words". Oscar Trimboli has 30 years' experience in bringing out the best in senior executives and next generation leaders. As we worked together, our challenge was to bring that power and authority to Oscar's podcast. Our goal was to create engagement with his audience and demonstrate his authority in the space. Over time, this would help him grow his consultancy. He could demonstrate his authority on his show and gain new clients. To build his authority in his space, I suggested that Oscar interject himself more into the episodes, so listeners get to know, like and trust him. Oscar Trimboli is now the author of 3 books. He has coached, mentored and advised people in a wide range of roles from founders, CEOs and CFOs . He has also been asked to speak to leadership teams and their organizations. His podcast is now focused on the same material. Oscar demonstrates his authority in and mastery of the space. This allows potential clients to experience what his coaching, mentoring and consulting is all about. CONVERTING CLIENTS Finally, step six is creating your Converting Clients. This is where get your listeners to your sales conversation and invite them to work with you. SHOW ME HOW The third challenge many podcasters face is that they don't have a mentor who can show them the step-by-step process and hold them accountable. They don't know where to start. Let me show you. What would it mean to your podcast if you had an easy way to grow your audience? In order to make money with your content, you need to grow an audience who needs your expertise. Then, you need to build a relationship with that audience. There is a secret to growing your audience nobody talks about. Getting listeners isn't enough. You need to develop a plan to actually keep them coming back time and time again. Many podcast gurus teach you how to create a podcast. Record your interview. Convert it to an .mp3. Upload it to your host. You have a podcast. Now what do you do? Some may even teach you how to get a few listeners. But, that is where most people teaching podcast stop. FILL THE BUCKET The problem is … if you keep putting water in a bucket with holes in the bottom, it becomes very difficult to increase the amount of water in the bucket. The same is true with your podcast. If you keep adding listeners, but they don't stick around, your audience and authority won't grow. Can you understand why both sides of the equation are important to your growth? If you want to use a podcast to grow your business and authority, you need to build it on a solid foundation and strategy. This is step four of the process … "Your Influence" roadmap. Your personality keeps them coming back for more if you use it right. THE BLUEPRINT This whole strategy is what I call the Audience Explosion Blueprint. My Audience Explosion Blueprint is built on these 6 steps for successful podcast audience growth and monetization. Your Personality is the the magic sauce. Your personality is the way people get to know you, like you and trust you. It is your personality that keeps them coming back for more episode after episode. So many forget this critical ingredient. Your podcast can't be all about information. Your content needs to be engaging entertainment. Your personality makes you unique. It makes you stand out from everyone else. Develop your personality through the stories that you tell and the details that you share. People will get to know what you believe and value. How great would it be to be able to follow a plan day-by-day to develop your personality, grow your audience and monetize your show? No more guessing. Just a way to take action to increase your downloads. Do you want to stop all the trial and error searching for the right process? WHERE TO START What would it mean to your income if you had an easy way to connect to the big fish that are your ideal clients? I can't guarantee you will make money from your podcast. Only you know the viability of your topic, your abilities and your willingness to work. However, this blueprint will definitely help you build a framework to see what is possible. Let's talk about using a podcast to create and grow your business. You have been trying to find unique ways to build your audience and make money with your show. Since we've started, I hope you've written down a few ideas on how you might incorporate a podcast into your marketing plan. You have the blueprint that can help you. Here's what I know. If you want another level of success in your business, you're gonna need help. There's no way to get different results by doing the same thing. There's no way you're gonna get to another level on your own. You need help, and I'd like to be that mentor to show you the step-by-step process. The Challenge Of Time With Kevin Davis – PTC 418

We cover the exact steps to covert your listeners into clients. You can't keep wasting a bunch of time and energy on a podcast that isn't doing anything to grow your business. It's time to take action, and do something different. Get the details at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/workshop. THE IMPORTANCE OF TIME There are two truths about time. There are only 168 hours in the week. And, we all have the same 168 hours. So, why do some get so much done and others struggle to accomplish anything? Those who succeed know where to spend their time. Most time management tools have you schedule your time, prioritize your tasks, and delegate where possible. All of those are smart ideas. However, to grow your business you need to spend time on the right activities. Those activities should be in your zone of genius as Gay Hendricks calls it in his book "The Big Leap". Your activities should also actually drive the business. As Michael Gerber says in his book "The E-Myth Revisited", work ON your business and not just IN your business. Knowing where to spend your time is more important than knowing how you spend your time. You could spend hours making your website look perfect. But, is that really driving business? Wouldn't you be much closer to your revenue goals if you spent more time attracting, closing and working with clients and customers? THE HARD WAY I learned this the hard way. My website sucked up months of my time and at the end of the day ended up a trash heap. When I started, I got one of those "drag-and-drop" website builders and got started learining how to build a website. Now understand, I know nothing about websites. But I figured I was saving a ton of money. After I got the website up, I discovered Wordpress and themes to build a website. That's when I realized I could save a lot of money by building my site on Wordpress and hosting with HostGator rather than the pre-built solution. Again, I didn't know anything about building a website. So, I found someone on Fiverr to recreate and improve my website on Wordpress. It cost me $300. That's $300 total. I had just spent months trying to build a 3rd grade website, when I could have spent $300 to hire someone. Most importantly, I could have spent those months having sales conversations with people I could help. I could have spent time getting clients and growing the business. THE EASY WAY Now, I hire an expert when the task it outside of my zone of genius. I want to spend my time helping coaches attract their ideal clients with their podcast. When I moved my email autoresponders from Aweber to ActiveCampaign, I hired my virtual assistant to move it. It would have taken me hours. Instead, I spent that time growing the business. When I needed to build my funnel by connecting my webinar service to ClickFunnels and my shopping cart, I hired a funnel builder. It would have taken me months to figure out how to build a funnel. I even started the One Funnel Away challenge. Half way through it, I realized I was out of my lane. Instead, I spent that time talking with coaches who could hire me. SCARY TIME It is scary to spend money when you're building your business. Every dollar counts. In economics class, I discovered opportunity cost. It is the loss of a potential gain from other alternatives when one alternative is chosen. When you choose to spend your dollars on one option, you cannot spend that money on another option. Time is different. When you spend your money on one option, you get your time back. You can then spend that time making more money than you spent. How much is your coaching? I assume it is much more than you would pay a virtual assistant. Hire a VA for three hours, and spend that time landing another client. Spend your time in your zone of genius. What's the one thing you started doing that made you start to get listeners. A: Get on other stages and get people on your email list. Attending Collaborate is a powerful way to find partners and stages. Get details here: [ATTEND COLLABORATE] CONVERT CLIENTS Kate: Q: I have no idea how to convert listeners into clients. I use the books I have written as "sponsors" of the show, but am not sure what else to do without blatantly saying in a show, "I am a brain health coach". I don't do one-on-one much anymore - it's all group programs. While it comes up in conversations, I'm not sure how to use that as a way to get people interested in my group programs. A: Build rapport. Don't be concerned with "selling". Be concerned with "serving". Show people how you help. Then, give them an opportunity to go deeper. Use this tool to convert clients: [ATTRACTING HIGH-TICKET CLIENTS] SOCIAL MEDIA Richard: Q: Everyone suggests putting your podcast out on Social Media... But what if you don't really know anybody and you're not the extroverted type? How do you fit that new task into your podcasting schedule? A: Start building relationships. That's where all business begins. Pretend you are sharing on social media with your best friend or sister. Same with the podcast. Talk to one person. You have 168 hours in the week. There is time to be dedicated to social media 15 minutes a day. When you make it a priority, you'll find the time. Define your ideal target listener using this tool: [IDEAL TARGET LISTENER DEVELOPMENT] GETTING BOOKED Tim: Q: May I ask how does one get booked on a podcast? A: Build relationships. Don't spam hosts. Know something about the show. Reach out and start a conversation. Reference the show you listened to. Mention things you like. Tell them you would love to be considered as a guest on the show. SHOULD I DO VIDEO Todd: Q: Is it worth the extra effort to do a VIDEO podcast? JL: Q: Is it worth it to put my podcast on YouTube? I'm not planning on doing anything but putting the logo and audio because it's such a hassle and on top of everything else it seems unnecessary . A: YouTube is one of the biggest search engines in the world. Be on YouTube to be discovered. Ensure you lead people to your email list, so you can invite them to subscribe to the podcast. Start with the video. Get my team to edit your audio and video for you. Free up your time to spend more hours building your business and serving your clients. Get the full details on my editing packages here: [PODCAST EDITING SERVICES] I DIDN'T KNOW Andrew: Q: What's something you wish you would have known before you started your podcast??? A: Grow your audience by getting on other stages and leveraging partners. Have powerful conversations. RELEASE SCHEDULE Karim Q: I want to change our release schedule from weekly to biweekly as we are a research heavy podcast so it does get exhausting and was thinking if it will harm our growth A: People are creatures of habit. Rather than biweekly, consider splitting the show into two parts. Behind the Scenes of a Podcast Review – PTC 416
Doing a podcast review of your show is the best way for you to improve. Whether you review your own show or have someone else review it for you, nothing helps you get better than honestly assessing our progress in real time. Here are the links discussed in this episode: Oscar's Website: https://www.oscartrimboli.com Oscar's Books: Deep Listening: Impact beyond words How To Listen: Discover the hidden key to better communication Oscar's Podcast Episode: https://www.oscartrimboli.com/podcast/106/ Show Review Worksheet: www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/reviewworksheet Free podcast strategy session with Erik: PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply WHY WE REVIEW Reviewing your content on a regular basis is critical to your improvement. Learning how to critique yourself will help you sound more prepared, more organized and more like a true, professional broadcaster. When I was beginning my broadcasting career, I feared people would see me as someone simply trying to play the part of a professional. I didn't have any idea what I was doing, let alone how to get better. I wanted to have more credibility. How could I get there? Over the past 35 years, I learned to review and critique my own show. I worked with a variety of coaches, consultants, articles, conferences and mentors. They all taught me a little something. I have also been coaching radio talent with their shows. I have helped many radio shows reach the top of the ratings. My show has also been at the top for years. This is what I do for podcasters. This success is built on a quality review and critique of each show. When you learn to recognize the powerful parts of your episode, they will naturally become part of your content over time. I have developed a Show Review Worksheet to help you review your show. You can download the worksheet for free on my website at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/reviewworksheet. OSCAR TRIMBOLI REVIEW Oscar Trimboli is the host of the "Deep Listening Podcast". He teaches people how to be more effective with their listening. By getting dedicated to learning more and refining his content, he now not only has an incredible business doing what he loves, he now has an award winning show. Apple Podcasts named his show one of the Best Australian Podcasts of 2018 editorially selected by Apple. On this list are the likes of ABC National Radio, BuzzFeed and PodcastOne Australia. Oscar uses his podcast to showcase his authority and grow his business. His show has helped him land multiple speaking engagements and clients. As he grows his influence, Oscar is on a quest to create 100 million deep listeners in the world. Yes, 100 million. When setting goals, he takes it to a whole different level. Podcasting wasn't always part of the mix. Oscar's mentor told him the best platform to spread his message was to create a podcast. So, that's what he did. Many of us have no idea how to shape our content once our podcast has launched. Oscar would interview guests on his show. The guests would provide great content on each episode. However, there wasn't much of Oscar. The podcast was doing very little to build his authority. Oscar and I began working together to increase his visibility within his show. He now says the podcast increases the sharability of his message a thousand times. People who love his podcast actively share it. He has made the show a very powerful tool for his business. I had the chance to talk with Oscar about his success when he was on Episode 214. Today, I want to take you behind the scenes of our latest conversation and a complete review of one of his episode to help you improve. HIGHLIGHTS Here are the highlights of my conversation with Oscar Trimboli. Erik Question: Are we using this to gain clients? Oscar Answer: The Purpose of the show is hearing me on other podcasts and come to my show. For those who know me, continue the relationship. This feedback came across multiple years. I asked, "What is one thing you would change?" Most say, "I want to hear more from you and more from people like me." Q: What do you like and dislike about this new Q&A format of the show? A: I like that the audience voice is in the podcast. I like that listeners can listen to each other. It is a shared journey. The show gets more into very nitty gritty problems. The content is tangible. I dislike that I don't have a workflow. It is easy for the listener to share a problem. I also thought the back and forth really added to the episode. ERIK REVIEW The "answer" is a little long and detailed with a lot of "how" rather than a lot of "why" and a little "what". As a listener, I get a little lost with the reading. It lacks a little warmth and variation of engagement. The audio drops break it up and slow down momentum. The episode overall could benefit from more momentum and more questions with shorter answers. An opening will set up the episode for the listeners and welcome them to the show. Her question doesn't need an explaination. Just use the question to maintain momentum. There a nice reference to episode 67 at 2:00. You include a nice drop. It is a nice use of story and not too long. Also, nice use of her name coming out. Very 1:1. At 7:00 you say, "So, Shanie..." This makes it feel less like reading. You also "think" a second. There is use of another nice drop at 7:45. Another reference to a past episode. The drop is a little long. You can put it in context by jumping in a bit. The drop runs 7:45 to 9:38. He repeats himself a bit. At 9:45, this part sounds natural. It isn't a perfectly written sentence. It sounds like you've added your thoughts in real time. This adds authenticity with partial sentences. BREAK IT UP There is another solid drop at 11:40. This is a great example of putting it to use. However, it was very long. Not sure we needed all of it. This runs from 11:37-15:49. She talks about... A few things that have really worked for me Say no to almost everything There should be more discussion Had to learn to be disciplined around schedule Being intentional about what gives me energy 14:15 he comes in again Take a meeting for the wrong reason (decent example) You're not gonna make everyone happy This is simply too many topics for one drop. During that drop at 12:40, a second person comes in. You need to introduce him right after his first sentence to frame it. If he is the interviewer, replace with you. He talks about HR and restates what she says. This is not really adding anything. THE WRAP UP At 19:20 you say, "Your role as a speaker is not..." This is the "why" of much of the episode. Move this to the front of the episode. There is a wrap up at 19:45 with a nice update with what has happened since the interaction. At 20:40, you include a nice reaction and update from her. It feels like she is reading it rather than talking with emotion. The part of the answer at 22:04 is a good example of sounding stiff and read. There is no pause searching for the word. Her diction is almost too good. As part of her answer, she said, "What would be easy to implement." People don't add headlines to the answers. Pop in and asker her that question rather than having her add the headline. You have a nice call to action at 24:35. However, she comes back in at 25:40. You wrapped it up and put a bow on it. This felt like she restarted the conversation. Instead, move her big takeaway before you wrap up.Leave them with the call to action. Overall, the episode could be shorter and include a few questions to give listeners more of what they want. Helping Richard Chelson Find His Confidence – PTC 415
Last week on Episode 414 we talked about finding belief in yourself. On this episode, I want to bring you a discussion I had with Richard Chelson about finding confidence in yourself and what you do. WHERE DO YOU FIND CONFIDENCE? Where do you find the confidence to put it out there for the world to see? That is the journey I'm on. As I shared with you last week, my coach has challenged me to earn $100k in 100 days. A big, hairy, audacious goal like that is a little scary. But, exciting at the same time when you back it with confidence. Like we talked about last week, Wayne Gretzky said, "having a belief in yourself is ¾ of the battle." Make no small plans. They have no magic to stir men's souls. If you want to be great at something, be willing to be bad at it. If you missed that episode, give it a listen RIGHT HERE. THEY ARE JUDGING When you put yourself out there, people have the opportunity to judge you. With the trolls on social media, that is even more likely in today's world. That makes confidence even more important. However, confidence is elusive. I want to help you find it today. As I have conversations with podcasters during our strategy calls, one common theme continues to come up. That is confidence. The Impostor Syndrome is in all of us. Who am I to have a podcast? Who will ever listen to me? Who will help me earn $100k in 100 days? YOUR PASSION I was on a call with a doctor when he told me he has been practicing for years. He is just getting ready to start a podcast. This doctor is on social media a little. However, he doesn't see the engagement he would like to see in order to have the confidence to launch a show. Doc is starting to hit that point where we all wonder if the work is worth it. He said, "Will I prematurely quit or double down the efforts and work through the process to success. The passion is the gas in the tank. I need to find that again." Have you heard that voice when facing a big dream? Finding the passion is critical. Surround yourself with people who will inspire you and rekindle your passion. Will anyone care about your passion as much as you do? WHO CARES? Jeff has a passion for music and music history. However, he has a desk job. During our conversation, Jeff told me he is struggling with a way to make his passion for music the subject of his podcast and the basis for a new business. Jeff has the same struggle with confidence. He told me, "Who is going to listen? Who cares what I have to say? Who will get value from what I discuss?" Does that sound familiar? As we talked, we developed a variety of ideas. You have it in you to create what you love. Will it be scary? Absolutely. Can you find the confidence to launch it? Absolutely. Surround yourself with people who can support you who are also going through the same things you are going through. RICHARD CHELSON Today with chat with Richard Chelson. He has launched and faded two podcasts and is now considering a third. Richard wants to help veterans. But, he's struggling with the mindset. He needs to find his confidence to jump back in. During this strategy session, we help Richard battle Impostor Syndrome and determine his next steps. If you would like to have a free podcast strategy call just like Richard, I would love to talk with you. If you don't have a mentor who can take your hand and walk you every step of the way, go to www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply. Just click the button and apply to have a chat with me. Belief in Yourself – PTC 414
Finding belief in yourself is the most important and critical step when accomplishing anything. My coach recently challenged me to generate $100k in 100 days. Yeah, I got that feeling in my stomach. Who am I to generate that kind of money that fast? That's when I realized I am fighting against that same voice I help others defeat. It is funny how things appear in your path when you need them most. Three things came into my world this week that told me this is possible. Three is a magic number. These three things really got me inspired to take action. WAYNE First, I recently got a membership to MasterClass. It's the online platform where celebrities and experts teach from their zone of genius. Well, you know I'm a big hockey fan. The first MasterClass I had to watch was taught by Wayne Gretzky, arguably the greatest hockey player ever to play the game. It was amazing. He had so many great business and personal growth nuggets in that presentation. There was one that jumped out at me and grabbed me by the collar. Wayne said, "Having a belief in yourself is ¾ of the battle." Yep, I get it. I need to believe in myself. This $100k in 100 days is only possible if I truly believe it is possible. When I serve in the best way possible, I can really help coaches in a meaningful way. My coaching makes a difference in their lives. This is what I have been doing with radio talent for three decades. We transform their content to build powerful, meaningful relationships with their audience in order to grow business. Now, we just need to really take it to a whole new level. I will focus on a few and go deep to grow their business in a way that changes their lives. This will start with a workshop I am holding on Thursday for a dozen podcasters. This isn't just a training. I am taking it to a whole new level where we do the work during the workshop and get things done. If you want to see the details, visit www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/workshop. Are you with me? Do you have belief in yourself? Go check it out. DANIEL BURNAM The second thing that happened came from notes I had taken a decade ago. There are a stack of 5 notepads sitting next to my desk. These are tablets where I take notes from the various events I have attented over the years. A few years ago, I started taking notes in journals. They are easier for me to store and find when I need them. So, I haven't looked at these notepads for quite some time. Last week, I was reviewing notes in one of the tablets that I had taken during a Dan Miller course back in 2011. Dan is the author of 48 Days To The Work And Life You Love at 48days.com. In the notes was a quote I had written down and circled. Dan used a quote from Daniel Burnam that said, "Make no small plans. They have no magic to stir men's souls." Ok. Sign number two. I get it. $100k in 100 days. I gotta think big. I need to believe big. Thinking big creates magic. I'm ready for it. RYAN REYNOLDS The third came from one of my favorite podcasts. While driving, I always listen to a podcast or an audiobook. Being a lifelong learner from those who have come before me has always been part of my identity. This time, it was Barbara Corcoran's "Business Unusual" podcast. Barbara's guest quoted actor/entrepreneur Ryan Reynolds who said, "If you want to be great at something, you need to be willing to be bad at something." Nobody starts at the top. Sign number three. I need to be willing to be bad at being vulnerable in real time in order to become great at it. WE UNDERESTIMATE We overestimate what we can accomplish in one year while underestimating what is possible in five years. As my daughter Emma began playing piano, she needed to learn to be patient mastering songs while being bad. When 6-year-old Emma met Taylor Swift, Emma mentioned that she plays piano. Taylor said she wished she had never given up piano, and made Emma pinky swear she would never quit. My little 6-year-old did just that. A few years later, Emma became very frustrated while learning a difficult piece for her piano recital. Tears came. I tried to explain she needed to be patient, be methodical, and learn a little piece at a time. She didn't want to follow my suggestions. Emma just wanted to know it now. I told Emma, "If you're going to get this frustrated trying to learn these pieces, you don't need to continue piano. Quit, and do something you enjoy." She said, "I can't quit. I pinky swore Taylor Swift." I said, "Well then, keep practicing and give it time." Within a week, Emma was playing the piece quite well. She is 20 today and still plays. Emma enjoys learning songs by ear and writing her own. She does it one small piece at a time. GOALS What would you like to accomplish in five years? Break that goal down to one-year, quarterly, monthly and weekly benchmarks. Now, focus. Determine your next most important step. Then, take it. That's what I'm doing with this $100k in 100 days challenge. I'm putting myself out there and trying new things to find the coaches that are a perfect fit for my coaching. I'm doing Facebook live videos. There will be a lot of video shared on YouTube. I want you to benefit from my journey as I share the details, what is working and what isn't. I need to have belief in myself while thinking big. No small plans. Then, I need to be willing to be vulnerable and bad while I work on being great. WORKSHOP It all starts with this workshop on Thursday. It's called Build Your Podcast Profits Strategy Workshop and is limited to 12 podcasters. If you're like me, you're tired of sitting through webinars that are simply empty sales pitches. It's time we flip the script. Instead of a webinar, I'm holding this workshop where we actually get things done and set you up for an amazing 2023. Instead of being open to everyone who registers, it is limited to 12 people committed to their 2023 success. I want everyone to get the attention they need and deserve. And instead of being free, there is a small investment. I want you to have skin in the game, so you show up, have belief in yourself, play full out, and make a huge difference in your future. You can get full details at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/workshop to see if 2023 will bring the success of your dreams. Having a belief in yourself is ¾ of the battle. Make no small plans. They have no magic to stir men's souls. If you want to be great at something, be willing to be bad at it. I would love to see you there and join me on this journey. NEXT WEEK Next week I'll bring you a case study. Richard Chelson has launched two failed podcasts and is working on his third. As you can imagine, Richard is struggling with his belief. I'll bring you that conversation on the next episode. In the meantime, join me in the Build Your Podcast Profits Strategy Workshop before the 12 spots fill. You can get full details and see if there are spots open at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/workshop.

Tashaya Singleton and Repurposing Content – PTC 413
Are you using your podcast content in the most efficient and effective way? TAYLOR SWIFT An artist like Taylor Swift will monetize her music in multiple ways. She creates her content by writing and recording the song. That's just the start. Taylor's record label then sends the song to radio stations to get played. This creates more attention and demand for the song. She just released her new album "Midnight". Weeks before the album was released, she was teasing it across her social media platforms. Taylor even did a bit on Thursday night NFL football to promote the album, which got her on television. The album was released at Midnight to great fanfare. At 3am, Taylor released a special edition of the album with additional tracks as a surprise for her fans. The content then gets repurposed across many other platforms. Video go on YouTube and the video channels. Taylor plays the songs live in concert to thousands of fans at every show. There is merchandise, limited edition versions, digital versions, sheet music of the songs, licensing for commercials and movies, and a variety of other things. Taylor Swift creates the content once. She then repurposes it across many platforms in a variety of ways. YOUR CONTENT You can do the same with your podcast content. Begin by recording your podcast on video. You can post this on YouTube. Snippets of the video make great social posts and audiograms. Strip the audio from the video for your podcast. A transcription of the podcast can be used as a blog post. You can use the outline of your show for show notes if you don't have a full transcription. From the show notes, grab a few great quotes to use a quote cards across social media. After you have a few dozen videos created, you could even curate some of your best stuff into a course. This helps listeners avoid searching all of the episodes to find the specific parts. The key here is to do the work once and use it everywhere you can. You have a greater impact without much increase in your workload. Finding Confidence With Greg Standen – PTC 412
As I talk to podcasters, many of them are so close to taking the next step. They simply lack the confidence to believe in themselves. EXCUSES They tell me things like... "I'm 30 days away from launching." "It looks like I am about 90 days from going live with my podcast." "I'm still conducting interviews preparing for my course launch this summer." What is holding you back? I know what you feel. I was in your shoes when launching my podcast. Planning. Learning. Researching. Trying to get it just right. Don't let perfection keep you from launching. Find your confidence. We often let procrastination creep into our lives disguised as "planning" and "researching". We tell ourselves we will launch right after we complete a few more steps on our "to do" list. Here is the problem: The "to do" list keeps growing preventing us from launching. When I was launching, I started with a blog. The blog grew slowly. I finally came to the realization that podcasters would rather listen to podcasts than read. That is when my podcast planning began. I started watching videos on podcasting. Podcasts about podcasting filled my iPhone. Newsletter subscriptions hit my e-mail inbox. Conference tickets were purchased. I even bought books about podcasting. It was a time when I consumed everything I could find. I kept telling myself I was preparing. Truth is, I was just procratinating. THE PUSH Months into my learning and planning stage, Dave Jackson from School of Podcasting reached out. Dave found my blog and wondered why I didn't have a podcast. Dave, don't you understand? I'm planning. I'm researching. I'm learning. Look at all the work I'm doing. Dave wasn't buying it. He had seen this movie before and knew how it ended. During that 90 minute phone call, Dave pushed me. He challenged me. Dave had confidence that I could launch in a week or two. I simply needed to find my own confidence and move. That was the trick. Start with the first step. You've heard it before. Every journey begins with the first step. Your first step may not be in the right direction. However, you make corrections as you go. Eventually, you reach your destination. FIRST STEPS People often ask me how I do I have the confidence to stand and speak in front of 15,000 people. It started with the first step. Speaking in front of 20 people in speech class was tough enough. To earn extra money in college, I began working as a wedding DJ. That job forced me to make announcements to groups of people every weekend. During a wedding, it was my job to introduce the bride and groom. They would have me announce the cake cutting, the first dance, the wedding party dance, the parents dance and usually the bouquet toss. It was also my job to get people dancing. The butterflies would flutter in my stomach every weekend. This was one of the biggest days for the bride. My job had a lot to do with her memories of this day. One day, as I was encouraging the ladies in attendance to gather on the dancefloor for the bouquet toss, I found myself repeating myself multiple times. These ladies were busy chatting with each other. What I was saying was of little interest to them. That's when it hit me. People simply are not as interested in my speaking success and failure as I am. If I mess up while speaking, there is a good chance I will be the only one to remember. People don't care that much. The same is true with your podcast. If you mess it up, few will notice let alone hold it against you. Dave Jackson always uses a quote from Ryan Parker from FoodCraftsmen.com. "Nobody will punch you in the face." JUST START Are you letting self doubt keep you from launching your podcast or next project? Is the Impostor Syndrome holding you back? "Why would anyone care what I have to say?" "What if I fail?" "What if I make a fool of myself?" All of the self doubt is natural. We tend to make more of our mistakes than anyone else. HELP You are rocking your expertise. We sometimes forget what it was like to not know the things we know. You just need a strategy to attract an audience and convert them to clients. Helping Ruth Snyder Find Time – Episode 411
Imagine what your business could look like if you spent less time editing and publishing and more time getting and serving clients. How could your business grow if you could invest your editing time into building your business and generating revenue? Let me show you how. CONVERTING CLIENTS Your production doesn't create clients. It's your content that converts listeners to clients. Spend your time on business drivers. Let me show you how. MYTH #1 – MICROPHONE Most gurus teach you about microphones. Nobody says, "That is such a great podcast – I love her microphone. You should listen." Nobody is sharing that podcast. Gary Vaynerchuk is one of the biggest influencers in the online space. Gary often records his podcast in the back of an Uber in between appointments. People come to your show because of you and your content. Don't spend a lot of time worrying about the tech. Spend your time properly preparing with a purpose and attracting clients. MYTH #2 – UMS Most experts want you to remove all the silence gaps and ums. When you scrub your podcast like this, you make your show sterile. You remove all the human aspect from your content. It doesn't give the listener any room to process their thoughts or ponder what you've just said. They can't predict what will happen next. You take all of the anticipation and enjoyment out of the show. Have you ever watched awards shows where they say, "And the winner is..." That pause and anticipation is what makes the show exciting. American Idol took this to the extreme. You don't need to go that far, but leave some space. Rick Sizemore came to me. He was spending about 8 hours a week creating, editing and publishing his podcast. It was eating his week. After following these tips, he cut that to a fraction of the time. He now says, "We've been able to achieve goals we never imagined possible, with top ratings in our categories in iTunes, downloads beyond our wildest dreams. And an award from a leading organization." Stop wasting time on scrubbing your show. MYTH #3 – TIME I don't have time to consistently publish my podcast and repurpose my content. You need to schedule the time you have. Create a process that will allow you to publish a show consistently, so you can build rapport and relationships with listeners and convert them to clients. Friends show up consistently. Schedule your time, repurpose your content and delegate tasks that don't require your expertise. To recap, properly plan with purpose. Spend less time worrying about the tech and more on your content. Create a simlified production process. Stop scrubbing your audio and streamline the process. Find time to be consistent. Promote your goods and service while delegating the tasks you don't need to do. Ken Williams' Business Process – Episode 410
Do you have a business process to monetize your podcast? It won't happen by chance. You can't wander into business. Let me show you the four steps to create a business with your podcast. NO ADS Many podcasters hope to monetize their podcast with ads or sponsorships. This is the worst possible idea. It takes many, many hours to find sponsors and sell ads. Radio stations have full teams of 18 people working 40 hours a week selling ads. You don't have that kind of time. There are only so many ads you could possibly place on your show. Therefore, there is a ceiling to the amount of revenue you can generate. That is no way to run a business. Finally, people are fleeing traditional media to get away from ads. How frustrated to you get when you need to watch a commercial before your YouTube video? Don't clutter your show and upset your listeners. Instead, build a business by selling your own goods and services. Then, use your podcast to attract clients. PODCAST PROFITS FRAMEWORK There are four steps to the Podcast Profits Framework. The four parts are content, lead magnet, sales conversation and offer. You create great content on your show that entices your listener to take your lead magnet or free resource. This begins the business relationship. The lead magnet will lead your listener to your sales conversation. This could be a one-on-one call, sales video, webinar or a variety of other opportunities. Your sales conversation converts your listener to a client, because they need your solution. With ads, you get paid once. By using this framework, you market your product or service on your podcast and get paid every time somebody buys your solution. Don't overcomplicate it. Focus on these four steps and you'll build your business in no time. YOUR BUSINESS STRATEGY Would you like my help building your strategy? Take advantage of my free podcast strategy call.
