Maria Golihar Finding Focus – PTC 409
Focus resources mentioned on this episode: 21-Point Podcast Launch Checklist: www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/launch Show Focus Worksheet: www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/focus Free Podcast Strategy Call: www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply Many people believe you should you focus your show on topics that interest your audience. I believe you will be much more successful when you focus your show on your interests and then attract listeners who share that interest. Rather than creating content for your current listeners, create content for the listeners you want to attract. Define your ideal clients, and create powerful content that will lead them to a sales conversation. FOCUS WORKSHEET If you need some help developing your show focus and strategy, grab my show focus worksheet. This tool will help you create the focus of your show. You will get clear on a strategy to help your audience. Finally, you will develop a business idea around your content. You can download the Show Focus Worksheet at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/focus. YOUR FOCUS As you implement the Show Focus Worksheet, develop the focus of your show by starting with your passion. What topic tends to occupy most of your conversations? How can you make your approach to that topic unique? This is where you need to focus your show and your content. Don't force your topic into a niche simply because you think others will be interested. If you are not in love with the topic, you will find it challenging to produce great, weekly content around that topic. BUSINESS Once you have your show focus created, develop your business idea. To turn your topic into a business, find the challenges in the niche. What problems are people in your niche facing? What could you offer your listeners to help them overcome their challenges and fears? There are three things that need to be present in order to create a business around the challenges in your niche. First, the people in your niche need to be aware they have those challenges. You don't want to be in a position where you need to convince people they have a problem. Second, the people in your niche need to be actively looking for a solution to those challenges. Finally, you must have a solution to those challenges or access to that solution through partners. If you have those three pieces in place, you are well on your way to building a business with your podcast. MARIA GOLIHAR On this episode, we help Maria Golihar find the focus for her show. Maria is a history buff. She is planning to launch a podcast a podcast and is working to find the focus for her history show. Let's help Maria get clear. Enjoy my conversation with Maria Golihar. COACHING Thanks to Maria Golihar for joining me on this episode. A few of the resources I mentioned include my Podcast Launch Checklist. You can find that at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/launch. Helping Agape Garcia Leverage Other Podcasts – PTC 408
You can really grow your podcast audience when you leverage other podcasts. Even when you don't have a podcast of your own, appearing on other podcasts can really drive your business. Today, I want to give you three tips to leverage other podcasts to reach your goals. LET'S CHAT First, you and I need to chat. I want to help you create your podcast strategy. What are your podcast goals? Are you trying to build your business? Do you simply want to grow your audience to advance your cause? You can continue to throw things at the wall hoping something sticks. You can waste days and weeks and months going through trial and error trying to find the magic secret to become an overnight success. Or, you can build a strategy and methodically execute it to reach success. Which sounds better to you? Let's get on a podcast strategy call and build your plan. It's my gift to you for being a listener to this podcast. Apply for your call at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply. On the call, we will build your strategy. Then, I'll point you toward the direction for your next step. I can't tell you what that is until we build your plan. We can't build your plan until we talk. Are you ready to take action, or do you want to continue with all the trial and error that got you to this point. You won't get different results until you take different action. It starts with our podcast strategy call. Apply for your call today at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply. LEVERAGE Let's talk about three tips to leverage other podcasts to reach your goals. When you are working to land podcast interviews on other shows, you need to be strategic and intentional. You need to determine what you are trying to accomplish. Then, develop a plan to make that happen. Developing ways to leverage other podcasts is a great way to grow your audience and build your business. When you find other podcasters already speaking to your ideal listener, you can leverage that influence to reach your goals. The attention they built can fast track your success. There are three things to keep in mind when you leverage other podcasts. KNOW THE SHOW First, you need to know the show. Before you reach out to other podcasts to be interviewed, listen to the show. Know something about the podcast. A podcaster is going to take your more seriously when you've done your homework. They will trust you when you say you can help their audience. Interviews were not part of my show for about the first 300 episodes. However, I had many people reach out and tell me they would be a great guest for my show back then. They knew nothing about my show. Therefore, they were quickly ignored. BUILD YOUR LIST Next, build your list instead of your audience. I know this sounds odd. Why wouldn't you invite people to listen to your show? If they come to your show, listen and don't subscribe, you lose them forever. On the other hand, when they subscribe to your email list for your lead magnet, you can remind them to listen each time you publish an episode until they unsubscribe. You can build the audience through your email list. When you are interviewed on other shows, give listeners a free gift to get them on your email list. Use one single, focused call to action. Your only goal is to get them on the list. You can build from there. REFERRALS Finally, ask for referrals. At the end of the interview when you've delivered amazing content, ask for a referral from the podcast host. Can the host introduce you to other podcast hosts? Rather than cold calling hosts to get on their shows, get a warm introduction from hosts who have already had you on their shows. If each host can introduce you to two other hosts, you will have more interviews than you know what to do with. Your growth will be amazing. There are your tips. Know the show, build your list and get referrals. You are well on your way to building your strategy. AGAPE GARCIA Agape Garcia does not have a podcast of her own. Instead, she gets interviewed on other podcasts to grow her business. Over the past 35 years, Ms. Garcia has navigated through domestic violence, privacy, safety, vulnerability, and the mindset to endure personal adverse events in life. She has now dedicated her life in developing transformational programs, various forms of coaching, certification courses and establishing a nonprofit to help real time victims. On the episode today, we help Agape leverage other podcasts to grow her business. Enjoy our conversation. Thanks to Agape Garcia for joining us on the show today. Take action today to get on my calendar. We will develop your plan and see how I can help and support you to achieve your podcast goals.

Creating Consistency With Ryan Fairbanks – PTC 407
People are creatures of habit. To grow your audience and build your business, you need to publish with consistency. Get your listeners in the habit of listening to your show every week. MY FAVORITE One of my favorite podcasts is 48 Days to the Work You Love by Dan Miller. I am in the habit of listening to Dan regularly. Dan Miller believes we can all find – or create – work that is meaningful, purposeful, and profitable. He shares real world examples on the show every week. Dan is referred to as the nation's leading authority on work, career and business start-up. His show continues to sit solidly in the top 1% of all podcasts in the world. Do you think that happens by accident. Dan has been publishing an episode every week for over 800 episodes without ever missing a week. I listen to 48 Days every Saturday while I'm working around the house. Dan actually publishes on Friday. He records every Wednesday. It doesn't matter when Dan publishes, because I listen when it is right for me. As long as he maintains consistency with his publishing day and time, it will be there when I am ready to listen. The consistency in his schedule creates consistency with his listeners. He is there every week for me like a trusted friend. When you build that habit in your listener, you will see your audience grow. You will also see your call to action be much more effective. NOT EASY Creating consistency is easier said than done. Life gets in the way. I get it. You might get sick. There might be a weekend you need to visit grandma. The kid forgets to tell you he has a soccer game tomorrow. I've been through it all. If you put a plan together, you can create consistency in your podcast production without eating your entire week. There are 7 different things you can do to help you create consistency with your show. GET IN THE ZONE First, find the time of day and day of week when you do your best work. Find your zone and get in the flow. When you are most energized, you can crank out content about twice as fast as you can when you are uninspired, fatigued and distracted. Try different times until you find your creative zone. PARTS Next, break your production process into 3 pieces to use different parts of the brain. Part of the production process takes creativity. Another part takes the analytical part of your brain. Don't try to do both at the same time. The three parts are creating the framework, performing, and finally editing and posting. The framework requires the logical part of your brain. Recording the podcast taps your creative part. The editing and publishing is back to the brain's analytical part. Shifting back and forth is tough. Therefore, break it into parts you can do at different times of the day or week. You can even do the framework for multiple episodes at the same sitting to save time. As the saying goes, eat an elephant one bite at a time. WORK AHEAD Rushing to complete your show rarely produces a great episode. Work ahead. Be a week or two ahead, so you can always have an episode ready to publish. THINGS HAPPEN To be prepared for life to happen, have an emergency episode in the can just in case. You never know when you might lose your voice and be unable to record. The computer might crash and end up in the shop. A last minute trip might pop up preventing you from recording. Create an evergreen episode that you can tuck away just in case life happens. It will save you a lot of stress. PLANNER One tool that will help you be consistent is a planner. Create a content planner to help see the big picture as you build the strategy. A content planner will help you take your business growth goal and plug in content to help reach that goal. SCHEDULE Next, what gets scheduled gets done. To create consistency, put it on your calendar and honor it. HELP My last tip to create consistency, find help. You don't have to do it all yourself. There are things only you can do. Parts of your podcast, like performing, can only be created with your expertise. Other parts of your show, like the editing and posting, can be done by others. That will free you up to do things that drive revenue. Having an editor will also hold you accountable to deliver an episode to your editor every week. If you would like to see what an editor could look like, check out the options at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/editing. LAND MAN Today, we help Ryan Fairbanks find that consistency in his podcast. Ryan is a pivot coach who helps entrepreneurial land professionals explore and expand their knowledge, opportunities, experience, community and skills so that they can prepare for and transition through their next career pivot. He does this through individual Pivot Coaching, facilitating 7-Skills Mastermind Groups and the Land Skills Network to help managers, leaders and negotiators in the energy production and construction industries develop their mindset and skills. I'm a little jealous of Ryan, because he lives in rural Vernal, Utah, nestled in the Rocky Mountains. If you've ever been in that part of the country to see the mountains and gorges, you understand how that is God's country. You can find Ryan Fairbanks and his community at landmanmastermind.com. Enjoy my conversation with Ryan Fairbanks. YOUR NEXT STEP Big thanks to Ryan for joining me on the show today. Again, you can find Ryan Fairbanks and his community at landmanmastermind.com. Create consistency in your podcast to grow your audience and build your business. Create the relationship with your listener by being there every week when they are ready to listen. If you would like help editing your show, check out the options from my team. You can see the various packages at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/editing. Build Your Marketing Strategy With Chioma Njoku – PTC 406
Many podcast experts will teach you how to launch your podcast. Some try to help you monetize the show. But, they are all missing your marketing strategy. Chi's Podcast "Cheers to Your Prosperity" HERE Find Chi the Mindful Bookkeeper at HERE Enroll in podcast training "How To Grow Your Audience" HERE The experts want you to believe you should grow your audience large enough to land some sponsors. That is the biggest mistake you could make. When looking for a traditional sponsor, you need more than 5,000 downloads per episode. According to Rob Walch, VP of Podcaster Relations at Libsyn, the July 2022 statistics across all Libsyn podcasts shows the median downloads is 165 downloads per episode. The median is the middle. If you stack them up smallest to largest, the one right in the middle is the median. Therefore if you are getting more than 165 downloads an episode, you are better than 50% of all podcasts. Only 8% of all podcasts on Libsyn get more than 5,000. That means the other 92% of us aren't playing in the sponsor atmosphere. Only 20% of all podcasts get more than 1,300 downloads per episode. We need to devise another way to monetize our show. Chasing sponsors is a waste of time for you. Instead, use your podcast as a marketing tool for your business. Incorporate it into the rest of your marketing to attract your ideal clients or market your affiliate products and services. Before we get into the most effective way to use your podcast, let's talk about growing your audience. Even though we aren't looking to attract sponsors, the larger our audience the more effective our call to action will be. GROW YOUR AUDIENCE If you would like to grow your audience, join me for a free workshop. It's called "How To Grow Your Audience In 30 Days Or Less". It happens online Thursday, September 22nd. You will discover… The exact step-by-step process to fill your audience with your ideal clients The most effective way to get new listeners and increase your downloads How to overcome the common challenges podcasters face to get results quickly You can get registered at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/training. If you're like most podcasters, you have struggled to grow your audience. It has been a challenge to fill your pipeline with qualified prospects for your business. I know you don't want to spend a ton of money on ads that don't work. Let me help. I'll show you a much more effective process without throwing away good money. Join us on Thursday, September 22nd at 2pm Central Time, Noon Pacific Time. Register at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/training. Let's build your growth strategy. PODCAST MARKETING FUNNEL While you are growing your audience, you need to also be growing the business. I'm sure you've heard of a marketing funnel. You bring people into your world by making them aware of you. They are given content to make them interested in what you have to offer. Once they are interested, you get them engaged by getting them to take action. Finally, you convert the engaged into clients. It is a marketing funnel. Fewer people move through to each level making the process look like a funnel. The first step is awareness. Everything you do to make people aware of you and familiar with what you do, who you help and what you help them do sits at the top of the marketing funnel. Awareness activities include blog posts, social media, website, search, newsletters, marketing campaigns, conversations, media mentions and a variety of others. This is where your podcast sits. Use the podcast as part of the marketing strategy to make people aware of who you are, who you help and what you help them do. Create your marketing plan and incorporate it into your business. Maintain a consistent message and call to action in all of your marketing pieces. When people become aware of you through any of these methods, get them on your email list, not to your podcast. If they listen to your show without subscribing and never come back, they are gone forever. You can no longer reach them. If these new people get on your email list, you can now email them every time you release a new episode until they unsubscribe from the list. You can now nurture the relationship and get them to subscribe to your podcast. CHIOMA NJOKU Chioma Njoku helps entrepreneurs with their bookkeeping as founder of the Mindful Bookkeeper. Grow Through Speaking With Marjorie Saulson – PTC 405
Speaking is a great way to grow your audience and increase your downloads. Unfortunately, many people fear public speaking. There are many ways to leverage speaking other than being onstage. Join us on Thursday, September 22nd at 2pm Central Time, Noon Pacific Time. Register at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/training. Let's build your growth strategy. SPEAKING Today, I want to help you get started with one specific way to grow your audience. Public speaking is a powerful way to connect with new listeners. Studies tell us the fear of public speaking is one of the most common fears in society today. I would suggest it is the fear of failure while public speaking that is most common. When most people think of public speaking, they think of being onstage. I want to give you 9 different stages where you can appear that are much less scary than being on stage. Then, my good friend Marjorie Saulson is going to help you overcome the fear of public speaking. 9 DIFFERENT STAGES When you think of a stage, I want you to think of any opportunity to get in front of an audience. Live on stage is one opportunity. However, there are nine others that don't involve actually being on stage. Podcast interviews can put you in front of an audience without actually being onstage. Your potential listeners are listening to other shows. Find them. You can get on YouTube interviews. YouTube is the second most powerful search engine in the world. Take advantage of it. Facebook Live interviews are another option for you. It is the most popular social media. Use it to get in front of new audiences in a way that doesn't involve being on stage. You could speak on summits. These are like online conferences with a virtual audience. It is very similar to being onstage. But, you are not standing on stage looking at an audience staring back at you. There are other virtual events you could use. These could be mastermind meeting, webinars and other online events that put you in front of new audiences. Leverage crowdsourced content and guest segments on other podcasts. This is where another expert creates most of the content, and you just contribute a piece to be included amongst the bigger whole. NON-TRADITIONAL Newsletters are a non-traditional way to get in front of a new audience. It doesn't necessarily involve speaking in front of an audience. However, it is a great way to find new listeners. You can guest blogs for other influencers. Use this opportunity to get in front of prospective listeners. Finally, email swaps leverage the influence of other experts. When they include you in their newsletter, it is similar to endorsing your podcast. Coaching Session – Music Teacher Start A Podcast – PTC 403
A podcast can be a powerful marketing tool for your business. To start a podcast, you simply need to follow a plan. Structuring your podcast properly when you start is critical if you hope to use it as a marketing tool. On this episode, I want to take you behind-the-scenes of a coaching session to see how I help Jeanette Shorey lay out a podcast concept that she can start that will help her grow her online membership community. You can download my detailed Podcast Launch Checklist and get a video to show you how to start at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/launch. SIX STEPS TO START There are six steps to creating a powerful, profitable podcast. The first three steps help you start off on the right foot. The second three steps help you start driving your business. To begin, the first three steps are purpose, program and platform. After you've built the foundation, the next three steps are produce, promote and profit. Let's look at each of those steps in order. PURPOSE Your purpose is your why. Without a solid why, you won't stick with it. Creating a podcast every week will soon seem like a chore. Find your inspiration with a strong why. PROGRAM Your program is your niche. This is what you will talk about. It better be something you love and can talk about for hours. This makes creating content so much easier. PLATFORM Your platform is the format of your show. Will your show be solo, interview, magazine, documentary, two-person or some other format? PRODUCE Producing an episode is where most people spend their time. Don't make it complicated. You don't need to be a tech guru to create a podcast. Start by recording your episode in audio software. Then, edit it. Editing a podcast is like editing a word document. Highlight and delete. If you need help here, go to www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/editing. Next, export the file as an .mp3. This is just like saving a document as a .pdf. Click "file" and "export". Some audio software has an export button that makes it really easy. You then upload your file to your audio host, such as Libsyn. This is just like uploading a photo to Facebook. Your audio host stores your audio. You can get a free month by using the code PTC at www.Libsyn.com. Embed the audio player and episode on your website. Just copy and paste the code. Finally, be sure your show is linked to Apple Podcasts and the others. This involves coping the address from your audio host and pasting it on the platform. You only need to do this once. That's it. You have a podcast. PROMOTE Promote is all about attracting your listeners. This is how you bring fans to your show and keep them listening. This is where most podcasters SHOULD spend their time. Don't believe "if you build it they will come". It doesn't happen that way. You need to take action on a regular basis to make people aware of your podcast and invite them into your world. PROFIT Finally, profit from your efforts. Money doesn't fall from the sky. You need to build an audience and have a strategy. Build a roadmap that will lead people from being a listener to being a client. Have a plan. HELPING A MUSIC TEACHER START Six steps. It doesn't need to be any harder than that to start a podcast. This training is amazing. Set aside some time and get ready to take a ton of notes. Let's get rid of some of the confusion around funnels. WHAT IS A FUNNEL A purchase funnel is basically your customer's journey with you. First, your listener becomes familiar with you. Then, the listener decides if they like you and trust you. If you spend quality time building rapport with your podcast, your listener might decide to buy something from you. The success with their initial purchase combined with your time nurturing the relationship, your listener decides to go all in with your high end product. In 1898, Elias St. Elmo Lewis created a model highlighting the stages of a customer's relationship with a business. This model can be used with your podcast as well. St. Elmo Lewis called it the "AIDA" model. It describes 4 stages every prospect encounters as they take the sales journey. "AIDA" stands for: Awareness Interest Desire Action At the Awareness stage, prospects become aware that they have a problem and that a solution exists. This is where you focus your podcast content. The prospect then becomes interested in a few products or services as the potential solution for them. This is your podcast call to action. The next step is desire. This is where the prospect evaluates a particular solution. Finally, they take action and decide whether or not to buy. A conversion funnel is similar to a purchase funnel. Conversion funnel is the term used to describe the course a consumer follows online. Both of these are described as a funnel, because fewer and fewer people make it to each stage, like an upside down triangle. For instance, at the desire stage a portion of the prospects will decide your solution isn't right for them. Therefore, fewer people move through the funnel to the next stage. YOUR PODCAST So, how can you build a funnel with your podcast? First, you need to get in front of new potential listeners. This is phase 1 of Awareness. This is how people get to know you exist. Next, your podcast demonstrates what you know and what you're all about. This is phase 2 for you. This is where people decide if you are right for them. It is about building rapport and qualifying your listeners. Phase 3 is desire. You create desire by offering them additional help. Show them what you do and then how they can get more of this. This step is educating your listener on your solution. In phase 3 you would offer them a free resource in exchange for their name and e-mail address. This could be a report, checklist, or some other piece of value. You talk about it on your show and encourage them to take the next step in the funnel. This free resource is typically referred to as a lead magnet. It is designed to attract leads for you. If you want a list of 21 lead magnet ideas, get it at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/magnet. To complete step 3, you need a landing page builder and a way to deliver your free resource. This is what resources like ClickFunnels, LeadPages and GroovePages will do for you. ClickFunnels and LeadPages will cost you a monthly fee. Or, you can get GroovePages along with 17 other tools to build your business. See the training at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/groove. GroovePages is a full page and funnel builder. This will allow you to build brand websites with full navigation. Sell your products with 1-click upsells. With Groove, you even get custom domains, free bandwidth and hosting. It comes with free upsells, downsells and order bumps to help boost your sales. You can actually buy the entire platform, all 18 different apps, for one price and own it for life. However, the deal is going away at the end of the month. Then, it will be $399 a month. It is a no-brainer to get Groove for one price and own it for life. But, you probably want to see how it works. That's what the training is all about. It is only available this week at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/Groove. Don't miss it. BUILD THE RELATIONSHIP You now have your listener's e-mail address and a way to communicate with her on a regular basis. You can continue to build the relationship using the great content on your podcast and the value you provide in your e-mail. If she loves what you've given her for free, she may take that next step. That is phase 4. This is where they buy what you're selling. This could be your e-book, course, product, service or something else. This is where resources like SamCart, Shopify and GrooveSell come into play. Again, you can pay a monthly fee for SamCart or Shopify. Or, you can get GrooveSell for life as part of Groove. Just one flat price and own it for life at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/Groove. GrooveSell is a complete and robust shopping cart and affiliate program. It is content delivery made easy. You also get great analytics and data. GrooveAffiliate gives you a complete affiliate system. This allows you to connect with others and help sell each others stuff for an affiliate commission. Even if you don't have anything to sell, you can sell affiliate products and make money. There is GrooveAffiliate Marketplace to help you sell products from other experts and make money. Just like I do here with Groove. You can own these tools for life for a limited time. At the beginning of September, Groove will be $399 per month. If you get in now, you get lifetime accounts to all 18 Groove apps, like GroovePages, GrooveSell and GrooveAffiliate. No future payment ever required. This is how you use your podcast to move your prospects through your funnel. Now, you can add additional layers. But get these pieces to get started. GROOVE This Groove opportunity allows you to get an account for life with no future payments. You can also get unlimited contacts with GrooveMail if you get in before the end of August. GroovePages is an incredibly powerful funnel builder. You also get full access to GrooveMail and GrooveKart and the other apps they will be releasing soon. Just check out the free training to see how you can use Groove to beat inflation and skyrocket your income while avoiding hundreds of hours of blood, sweat and tears of frustration. Just visit www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/Groove. The free training goes away at the end of the month. Watch it today. You can get lifetime access to the entire Groove suite. This is amazing. It includes GrooveMail, GrooveMember, GrooveVideo, GrooveKart, GrooveWebinar, GrooveCalendar and so much more. But, the lifetime deal is going away at the end of August. Groove is coming out of beta and making it's debut to the world. It will be $399 per month. But you can own it for life if you act now. You can get full access for a one-time payment and never pay a monthly fee. They are just rolling it out with a big launch. Buy it now before it converts to a monthly payment and get lifetime access to all of these tools to build your business. Visit www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/Groove. GrooveMail is powerful, automated, behavioral-based email marketing system based on tagging. This allows you to send e-mail to all of those fans who gave you their e-mail address for your great resource. This is similar to ActiveCampaign or Aweber without the monthly fees. You can build a membership site with GrooveMember. This would be like Kajabi. Except you aren't paying the monthly fee when you buy it outright. Vimeo is a great tool to host your marketing and course videos. You can do that with GrooveVideo. It is powerful video marketing built right into the platform. Are you paying monthly for Zoom or GoToWebinar? You can save that fee. GrooveWebinar is a webinar platform built right into Groove. OTHER FEATURES How do you schedule your meetings? If you are like me, you've probably been using something like Calendly. Well, GrooveCalendar is part of Groove. It is a powerful scheduling system built right in. There is also GrooveStream, similar to StreamYard that will allow you to live stream. You get help desk software with GrooveDesk. Now, they are still building out more features. Still putting the finishing touches on them. But they are all coming. You can buy it now before it converts to a monthly payment and get lifetime access to all of these tools to build your business. Just watch the training to see how it all works. Visit www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/Groove. If you added up all of the monthly payments you would be making for all of these third party applications, you would be spending over $29,000 per year. Or, you can buy Groove for one flat price that is a fraction of that. It is a seriously great deal. Watch the training at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/Groove. I would give you the price, but it keeps going up the closer they get to a full launch. Eventually, it will be a $399 monthly fee just like the other platforms. However, if you get in now you can get lifetime access for one price and never pay again. Don't snooze and let this slip by you. If you are serious about building a business around your podcast, watch the training at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/Groove. If you have any questions about it, you can always e-mail me any time at Coach@PodcastTalentCoach.com. This is a no-brainer once you watch the training at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/Groove. The training is available this week and the deal disappears at the end of the month. Don't wait. Jump in now. Thanks again for being here. Have a great week.

Do You Start Small Enough – PTC 401
Are you thinking big enough? Do you start small enough? We need to have big goals. But to reach those goals, we need to start small and focus. We often overestimate what we can accomplish in one year. However, we underestimate what we can accomplish in five years. GUEST ON MY SHOW Would you like to be a guest on this podcast AND get a coaching call at the same time? I would love to give you a coaching session. In return, I will record the session and may use it as an episode of my podcast. Are you interested? Go to www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/record. That is a link directly to my calendar. Grab a time that works best for you. We will develop your plan and see how I can help and support you to achieve your podcast goals. I may then use that call as an episode of my podcast. We both win. Grab your time at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/record. GOALS As you create your goals, it is important that you set shortterm and longterm goals. Start with your longterm goal. What would you like to accomplish in five years? Once you have the goal established, break it down to one-year, quarterly, monthly and weekly benchmarks. Now, focus on those weekly goals. We eat an elephant one bite at a time. SMALL I got to thinking about this while listening to an interview with Spencer Fry of Podia on the Flipped Lifestyle Podcast with Shane and Jocelyn Sams. Spencer said one of the big challenges people face when they start building their business or any project is not starting small enough. When I started Podcast Talent Coach, I created the ultimate podcast solution. This project contained 7 modules. It walked podcasters through theater of the mind, building the podcast foundation, creating great content, how to prepare for the episode, reviewing your own show, making money with your show and how to get started. The project was everything you needed for your podcast. This thing took me a long time to create. It is 135 pages of text. All of my best stuff. Then, I started asking people if they wanted it. What I discovered was podcasters didn't want the solution to every problem. They want to solve their specific problem. The project was many hours, days and months wasted. I was starting too big. MY FIRST CLIENT One day in April of 2013, I spoke with a guy in Canada who wanted to make his content and show stronger. As we talked, we got specific on his struggle. We worked together to develop a plan to solve his most pressing challenge. Over the next nine months, we worked on his struggles one at a time to reach his goals. This was before I had a book or course or membership. He discovered me through my podcast and saw how I could help him solve his problem. I didn't need an extensive program that gave him everything I knew. He was looking for one specific answer to the problem he was trying to solve. What is the biggest problem your listener is trying to solve? Start there with your content and your business. Keep it simple. Define the shortest way to reach the goal. If you are trying to grow your show, take the steps necessary to get your next listener. One way I've grown my email list by participating in giveaways. Each giveaway grows my list by about 100 subscribers. Over time, my email list has grown to 4,500 people. You don't need to build an entire city at one time. Start with a tent. Then a house. Build the city one building at a time. Start small enough. PIANO My daughter Emma plays piano. She has learned to be patient as she learns to play particular songs. When she was 6, I took her backstage to meet Taylor Swift. Now, Taylor Swift is absolutely amazing when it comes to business. Taylor walked into the room and addressed me by name. She was well prepared by her record label representative. Emma introduced herself to Taylor, and they had a good chat. Taylor was really engaged in the conversation. During the chat, Emma mentioned that she plays piano. Taylor said she wished she had never given up piano. She then made Emma pinky swear that she would never give it up. My little 6-year-old did just that. SUZUKI Fast forward a few years to Emma learning a difficult piece for her piano lesson. Emma learned through the Suzuki method. It involves listening to the piece of music and reading the notes in order to train your ear. This was not a piece Emma had heard before. She had moved beyond the initial Suzuki pieces where she started. Emma soon became very frustrated with her struggles. Tears came. She didn't know what to do next. I tried to explain that she needed to give it time, work through it methodically, and learn it a little piece at a time. She didn't want to follow my suggestions. Emma just wanted to know it now. The microwave generation. That's when I told Emma, "If you're going to get this frustrated trying to learn these pieces, you don't need to continue piano. Quit and do something you enjoy." She said, "I can't quit. I pinky swore Taylor Swift I wouldn't quit." I said, "Well then, keep practicing and give it time." Within a week, Emma had the piece down and was playing it quite well. She is 20 today and still plays piano. However, she enjoys learning songs by ear and writing her own. She does it all by taking it one small piece at a time. WHERE TO START Regardless of what you are trying to accomplish, start small and focus. If you want to grow your audience, determine how that will happen. Define your five-year goal. Then, break it down to small steps. This process will help you in any area of your journey. Are you trying to build and grow a business? You can't do it all at once. It takes a plan, small steps and focus. Determine the next most important step. Then, take it. What are you trying to accomplish? I would love to give you a coaching session. In return, I will record the session and may it as an episode of my podcast. Are you interested? Go to www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/record. Grab a time on my calendar. We will develop your plan and see how I can help and support you to achieve your podcast goals. I may then use that call as an episode of my podcast. We both win.

7 Experts Share The Strategy – PTC 400
For my 400th episode, I've reached out to 7 of my favorite podcasters to share the strategy they use to grow their business. THE BEGINNING This podcast actually started as a blog. After writing for a few months, Dave Jackson from School of Podcasting reached out. Dave is an amazing, generous expert in the podcasting space. I had listened to many of his episodes and knew what he was all about. One Saturday afternoon in 2013, Dave and I jumped on the phone. He told me he saw my stuff on the New Media Expo blog and liked what I was offering. Over the next hour, Dave and I talked about our past, what we were doing online and our visions for the future. We realized there were many ways we could help each other. At one point, Dave asked why I didn't have a podcast. Great question. Podcasters would probably be more interested in listening to a podcast rather than reading a blog. So, I pivoted. On that call, I decided I would launch my own show to help podcasters improve their content and give them more confidence in their show. The first episode of Podcast Talent Coach was published on July 19, 2013. I'd love to say I've published a show every week since. But, that's not the case. I've had plenty of battles with Impostor Syndrome and motivation. There was one summer early on when I wasn't sure I was on the right path. No new episodes were published for a few months. I finally got back on track and have been publishing fresh content ever since. INTERVIEWS Most episodes of the show have been solo shows. Just me sharing information to help you transform your information into entertainment. On Episode 100, I had the first voice on my podcast that wasn't mine. That episode featured other podcasters asking questions. Episode 204 featured my first pseudo-interview. It was actually a coaching sessing with Tony Muckleroy of Jeep Talk Show. This actually became one of my most popular episodes. Probably because Tony is so great. My first real interview happened on Episode 276. Zoe Routh joined us to talk about the ways she uses her podcast to grow her business. Over the years, I've interviewed a few other experts. But, most of my episodes are still solo shows. Teaching has been my strategy. This may change in the future. After 400 episodes, I'm starting to feel the itch to talk to others. That's the great thing about podcasting. It's your show. You can do anything you'd like. You make the rules. We'll see how things go. I just want to thank you for being on the ride with me. GROW YOUR BUSINESS On this episode, 7 of my favorite podcasters will share their strategy to use their podcast to grow their business. DAN MILLER When I first started my online journey, I started following Dan Miller. He is the best selling author of 48 Days To The Work You Love. He hosts the 48 Days podcast as well. I discovered Dan through Dave Ramsey. The year isn't so clear, but I believe the first product I purchased from Dan came in 2011. Here is Dan sharing his strategy to use his podcast to drive his business. Thanks, Dan. Find Dan Miller at https://www.48days.com/listen/. DAVE JACKSON As I mentioned, Dave Jackson was instrumental in the creation of this podcast. He and I also host the Podcast Review Show together. You can find that show at https://www.podcastreviewshow.com. Dave also uses his show to drive his business. Thanks, Dave. You can find Dave Jackson at https://schoolofpodcasting.com/episodes/. JON FUGLER While growing my business, I discovered Internet Business Mastery. While in that group, I met Jon Fugler. Jon wanted to start a mastermind and was looking for members. I took him up on the invitation. On February 18, 2017, I was sitting in the parking lot of the ice rink on the campus of Iowa State University. My son was there for a tournament. This was our first mastermind call. Over the years, our mastermind had a variety of members. But, Jon and I have been consistent since that first call. Jon has radio experience just like me. He played college baseball as did his boys. At the time, Jon was running Recruit Me to help students land college sports scholarships without hiring an advisor. He has a great story of getting out of that business and into his faith. Here is Jon. Thanks a ton, Jon. You can find Jon Fugler at https://www.freshfaith247.com. MARC MAWHINNEY There always comes a time when you realize you don't know what you don't know. That's when you need a coach. That came for me in March of 2019. Marc Mawhinney runs the Coaching Jungle Facebook Group. He hosts the Natural Born Coaches podcast and is an amazing coach. I discovered Marc while working through a program to improve my sales. One of the instructors in that course recommended Marc. I joined his group, listened to his show and hired him as my coach. Here is Marc's strategy to drive his business with is podcast. Thanks, Marc. You can find Marc Mawhinney at https://www.naturalborncoaches.com/episodes/ MIKE VAN PELT Mike Van Pelt and I connected in 48 Days Eagles with Dan Miller. I helped Mike launch his True Man podcast. Mike has a huge heart and helps men with his coaching. Here is Mike sharing his strategy to grow his business. Thanks, Mike. You can find Mike Van Pelt at http://truemanpodcast.com/. MICHAEL GRIFFITHS I am always looking for great ways to grow your audience and business. While working with Marc Mawhinney, I started pursuing joint venture partnerships. The power of partnerships is amazing. Referrals are also an amazing way to get in front of your ideal customers. One day on Marc's podcast, I heard Michael Griffiths. He is the founder of Referral Marketing Guru and hosts the Get More Referrals Today podcast. As a referral expert, of course Michael uses his podcast to build relationships. You can find Michael Grittiths at https://www.referralmarketingguru.com.au JIM PADILLA Now that I have built my courses and coaching programs, I need help creating a selling process. Enter Jim and Cyndi Padilla. They run Gain The Edge and Sales Team Ready. Jim also hosts the Sales Team Ready podcast. Jim and Cyndi have been helping me get clear on my offers and build my selling process. It has been amazing. Here is Jim sharing how he uses his podcast to drive his business. Thanks, Jim. You can find Jim at https://www.gtenow.com. YOUR STRATEGY Big thanks to these 7 amazing experts for sharing their strategies with us today. Hit their websites. They are all experts and some of the best in their niche. It has been 400 episodes for me. Thanks so much for supporting me and the show. I appreciate all the time you've given me over the years.
