Clarity to Cash with Jennifer Jakobsen
This is a very special episode because it is a crossover of both my podcast and the Clarity to Cash podcast, hosted by Jennifer Jakobsen. Jennifer is a certified professional integrative coach, a business owner, and a mom of three girls. She spent many years in the mental health field as a psychotherapist. And she is now a coach for female entrepreneurs who want to gain clarity on their customer base, business model, and their focus areas so they can maximize their potential as business owners by overcoming the negative self-talk and other obstacles in their way. Our conversation on the episode centers around the common struggles of an early stage business owner. We cover everything from self-doubt and a lack of clarity on business objectives to learning how to keep what you earn. If you have ever struggled with any of these things, this episode will make it known that you are not alone. Coaching Won't Solve Your Money Problem
In my opinion, the marketing around coaching is getting a little extreme. I see coaches promoting their extraordinary results or their atypical and exceptional clients as though that's the expectation of what you can experience by working with them. Of course this is solid marketing, but I think that as consumers and as business owners who are potential customers of these coaches, you have to be mindful of what this is doing. On this episode I explain what I mean by this and discuss how important it is to understand that just because you hire a coach doesn't mean you are guaranteed to experience the results they are advertising. >>> Questions about this episode? Tips to Communicate a Price Increase
With inflation and supply chain issues, costs are on the rise. Because of this, a lot of business owners are finding it necessary to raise their prices to stay afloat. But as business owners, we are often afraid of the reaction we will get from our customers. This fear can pressure us into keeping our prices down and seek stabilization vs taking the risk of increasing prices and losing clients. In reality, we actually need to lean into the risk in order to avoid limiting ourselves and eroding our margins. On this episode I share the three essential things that every communication needs when you're pushing through a price increase. >>> Questions about this episode? Crafting a Compelling Pitch with R.T. Custer
R.T. Custer is a serial entrepreneur specializing in story-based marketing for consumer product companies. He started Vortic Watch Company with his friend Tyler in college and grew it to a nationally recognized 7-figure luxury brand that is now expanding into an 8,000 square-foot facility in downtown Fort Collins, CO. In 2020, R.T. spun off the expert team of marketers helping with Vortic to create a marketing agency that soon after joined forces with fellow agency entrepreneur and friend, Jim Carter, resulting in Carter & Custer. R.T.'s goal is to change the lives of other entrepreneurs by helping them tell the world about what they have to share. I am excited to have him on the show today to share his experience as a serial entrepreneur, how he has been able to navigate managing three different businesses, and how he has been able to acquire funding by effectively pitching and persuading. How to Know if You Are Ready for an S Corp
Many accountants and tax specialists boast about how the S corporation is a great solution to reduce self-employment taxes if you're making at least 40K-50K in profit. I definitely agree with this message, but profit alone is not enough. There are a few more questions that need to be answered to make sure an S corporation is a good fit. On this episode I go through the other criteria that should be considered before deciding on an S corporation. >>> Questions about this episode? Building a Successful Freelancing Business with Lisa Cumes
As a result of the pandemic and the quote-unquote Great Resignation, a lot of folks have decided to go online, to go independent, and to leave their full-time jobs to pursue freelancing, small business ownership, or entrepreneurship. I think a lot of these things are one and the same. Unfortunately, I see a lot of folks use the term "freelancer" as something lesser-than. Something lesser-than a business owner, lesser-than an entrepreneur, and that's not necessarily the case. We're going to touch on that today with my friend Lisa Cumes. Lisa is a freelance copywriter and StoryBrand Guide who has built a multiple 6-figure online copywriting agency over the past 4 years. Last year, she shifted and scaled her business by bringing on a team of copywriters to help more businesses and personal brands simplify their message and streamline their content marketing. She also has a passion for helping freelancers stop hustling and start building thriving full time businesses. She coaches other freelancers through Full Thrive Freelancing with online courses, coaching, and free webinars. And as a mom of three kids, she knows how to navigate mommy guilt to actually be productive working from home. I talk with Lisa about what it means to be a freelancer and, if you are a freelancer, what are the best ways to find really good clients and build your business so that it is sustainable, not just a side hustle, because you can actually make an entire career out of freelancing.
