Podcast
My guest for Episode 75 of The Startup Playbook Podcast is Ahmed Haider, the co-founder of Zookal and Flirtey.
All founders know how difficult it can be to run a business, but it is infinitely harder to run 2 successful, multi-million dollar companies at the same time!
Someone who makes this look easy is Ahmed Haider. Ahmed dropped out of his University degree to focus full time on Zookal, an online platform that allows students to buy and rent textbooks.
From having just 2 weeks runway remaining, Ahmed and his team have hustled to build Zookal to generating $20M revenue in the last year and having raised over $7.5M in funding
If that wasn’t enough, Ahmed went on to start his second company, drone delivery startup Flirtey, which earlier this year raised a $16M round of funding.
In this interview we talk about:
understanding your risk tolerance
how to attract the right talent
competing with likes of Amazon
the opportunities in South East Asia

Podcast
My guests for Episode 5 of The Startup Playbook Hustle are Heidi Holmes and Lucy Lloyd, the co-founders of Mentorloop.
Heidi and Lucy have been friends for over 20 years, initially meeting at school before initially heading down different career paths.
Prior to Mentorloop, Heidi was the Managing Director of Adage, an online jobs board that was acquired by OneShift in early 2015, whereas Lucy spent several years with tech and development agencies before reconnecting and discussing the initial idea for Mentorloop over a glass of wine.
That idea turned into a Mentorloop, which provides mentoring software that enables businesses to match their people into effective mentorships at any scale.
Mentorloop was recently accepted into and went through the highly competitive Startmate accelerator program and announced a partnership with the Australian Olympic Committee.
The success and growth of Mentorloop has allowed them to raise $1M of funding from a number of investors including Blackbird Ventures, Rampersand and Tempus Partners.
In this episode we talk about:
How to get buy-in from your first few customers
Passing the hurdle test
