Getting our game on with Chris Harrop – Telstra Touch and Track technology

This week on JOY Drive, Jacs Host of Game On JOY 94.9’s Home of Sport, joins JOY Drive host Warren Andrew to share a revolutionary upgrade for Marvel Stadium, which will allow blind and low vision individuals to experience live AFL through touch.  For the 453,000 Australians who are blind or have low vision, sport has historically been a challenging aspect of life to truly engage with due to the dominance of auditory commentary and sounds heard in the stadium and the pitch. This number is expected to grow to over 500,000 by 2030. Chris Harrop, Group Owner, Product and Technology – Telstra explains how the pioneering Telstra Touch and Track technology works, how the device supports the needs of the blind and low vision community, and how fans can access the technology. There are now 40 Telstra Touch and Track devices made accessible for low vision and blind fans to use at no cost at the Marvel Stadium AFL games. The device is tactile providing an intuitive way to follow the flow of the game not through a screen, but through the fingertips of the user. A global example of how innovation can drive greater inclusion and access for all fans. To learn more about Telstra Touch and Track and how to access the devices, see the Marvel Stadium website. And to hear more of where sport is inclusive, safe, welcoming and fun check out Game On every Wednesday from 6-7pm.
