11/2: Alarming sign of rising tensions between North and South Korea. Six days to go until the high-stakes midterm elections.
Over the last 12 hours, North Korea has fired nearly two dozen missiles into the sea, according to officials in South Korea and Japan. One of the missiles splashed down in an area that's supposed to be a no-fire zone. South Korea responded with its own missile tests. With the midterms just six days away, former President Obama spoke in Nevada, and President Biden spoke in Florida both urgently pressing their message that democracy is on the line next Tuesday. Control of the House is also up for grabs on Tuesday. Our latest battleground tracker poll shows Republicans favored to win a majority, but there are a lot of close races, including one in Virginia involving a member of the January 6th Committee. CBS News has confirmed new information about the attack on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband. Sources say the U.S. Capitol Police have cameras outside the Pelosi home, which captured images of the break-in, but officers only noticed a problem after local police had responded. The man accused in the attack, David Depape, appeared in court yesterday in San Francisco, and pleaded not guilty to multiple charges. CVS Health has announced a $5 billion settlement of lawsuits over the company's handling of addictive prescription opioids. The Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates by another 0.75% today. Regulators are trying to bring down the worst inflation we've seen in 40 years, but that policy change has pushed mortgage rates above 7%. Turning to an escalating situation in Iran. A court has ordered seven anti-government protesters to be executed. It's part of a crackdown against demonstrations that have spread across that country over the past six weeks, after a young woman died in police custody.

11/1: New details on the alleged plot to kidnap Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Arrest is made in the 2017 killings of two teenage girls.
Horrifying new details about the attack on Paul Pelosi and the alleged plot against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. According to authorities, the man accused of breaking into her home and attacking her husband wanted to interrogate her, believing she was telling lies. Many Republicans have condemned the attack on Paul Pelosi, but some others have made light of it, including Kari Lake, who's in a tight race for governor of Arizona. The first vaccine for the virus called RSV is one step closer to reality. Pfizer announced the results of its vaccine trial this morning. The prospective vaccine was nearly 82% effective at preventing severe RSV in newborns from birth to 90 days old. This morning, we have a breakthrough in a murder case that got national attention. Police say they've made an arrest in the killings of 13-year-old Abigail Williams and 14-year-old Liberty German in Delphi, Indiana more than five years ago. The Supreme Court heard arguments yesterday in two cases that could decide the future of affirmative action in college admissions. In Brazil, there are signs of potential trouble after Sunday's election where President Jair Bolsonaro lost to former President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva. Groups of truck drivers are protesting the outcome, blocking highways throughout the country, in some cases with burning tires.

10/31: Troubling new details emerge in break-in at Speaker Pelosi’s home. 150 people killed in a Halloween stampede in Seoul, South Korea.
The latest on the shocking attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The suspect in the assault is expected to be formally charged today, on counts including attempted murder. Speaker Pelosi was not home at the time, but she was allegedly the target. Millions of Americans have already cast their ballots for the midterms and tens of millions more will vote before November 8th. The latest CBS News Battleground Tracker poll shows Republicans currently are in a good position to win a majority in the House. At least two Americans are among more than 150 people killed in a crush in Seoul, South Korea over the weekend. Thousands of people had gathered in a nightclub district of the Korean capital to celebrate Halloween. A long and bitter presidential campaign in Brazil, very similar to our 2020 race, finally ended last night. Former President Lula Da Silva claimed a narrow victory, unseating President Jair Bolsonaro. At least 100 people were killed in a twin car bombing in Somalia, according to the country's president. Nearly 300 others were hurt. In India, a vast search and rescue operation is underway this morning after a century- old pedestrian bridge collapsed, killing more than 130 people.

10/28: Elon Musk takes ownership of Twitter. Speaker Pelosi's husband "violently assaulted" at home.
Elon Musk is now in charge of Twitter, after a multi-billion dollar deal that he tried to back out of at one point. There are also reports he's already fired the CEO and other top executives. We have breaking news from San Francisco, where someone broke into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's home overnight and "Vvolently assaulted" her husband Paul. President Biden and other Democrats are applauding a new report showing the economy grew more than expected over the summer. They hope it's a sign that we're not going into a recession -- in spite of rising prices and interest rates, the key issue for voters. A man who dragged a police officer into a mob of January 6th rioters has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. There was outrage at a hearing in Uvalde, Texas about last May's school shooting. Now to Russia, and a bizarre and threatening speech from President Vladimir Putin.

10/27: Herschel Walker denies new abortion allegation. Mortgage rates hit a 20-year high.
New allegations against Georgia Republican Senate nominee Herschel Walker, less than two weeks before Election Day. A second woman now says Walker paid for her abortion and even drove her to the clinic, after she initially decided not to go through with it. Walker calls the allegations a lie. This comes in the midst of a very tight race that could help determine control of the Senate. In Pennsylvania, the Democratic Senate candidate, John Fetterman, is responding to concerns about his debate performance Tuesday night. Fetterman used a closed captioning device because he's recovering from a stroke. High rates are sending both buyers and sellers into mortgage rate sticker shock as affordability is still a major challenge. Police investigating Monday's deadly school shooting in St. Louis say the suspect had the murder weapon taken from him nine days before the attack, but somehow, he got it back. The man who drove his SUV through a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin last year now faces life in prison. Darrell Brooks was convicted yesterday of six counts of intentional homicide and 61 counts of reckless endangerment, plus nine other charges. Today marks four years since a deadly, anti-semitic shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. To remember the victims, and reflect on the hate that fueled the massacre, CBS News correspondent, Elaine Quijano, spoke with Tree of Life's rabbi, Jeffrey Myers. A very revealing look at the war in Ukraine, from an American volunteer who fought in it. Ukraine's army is preparing to try and recapture the key southern city of Kherson, and fighting off Russian attacks in the northeast.

10/26: Pennsylvania Senate candidates face off in first and only debate. Brittney Griner faces Russian prison sentence after rejected appeal.
We begin in Pennsylvania with a Senate race that's got huge implications for the country, and which party has power in Washington. The first and only debate between Democrat John Fetterman and Republican Mehmet Oz included fiery exchanges on abortion rights, the economy, and a range of other issues. In New York, the governor's race is surprisingly close. Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul and her challenger, Congressman Lee Zeldin, clashed at their only debate last night, including on the topics of abortion and crime. There's a new focus on efforts to bring WNBA Superstar Brittney Griner home, after she lost an appeal of her prison sentence in Russia. Police in St. Louis say the 19-year-old who murdered two people at his former high school was carrying more than 600 rounds of ammunition for his AR-15 style rifle. The Kremlin said this morning it will continue to claim that Ukraine may be planning to use a radioactive "dirty bomb" on the battlefield. There is still no evidence at all to back up that allegation. U.S. forces and their NATO allies are conducting their own military drills this week, not that far from Ukraine.

10/25: Gov. Ron DeSantis does not directly commit to serving full term. Britain's new prime minister makes his first speech to the nation.
Election Day is two weeks away, and Pennsylvania is a crucial battleground for both parties. The latest CBS News Battleground Tracker finds the senate race between Democrat John Fetterman and Republican Mehmet Oz is a toss-up. They will have their only debate of the campaign tonight in Harrisburg, the state capital. In the governor's race in Florida, there were fireworks in the candidates' only debate last night. Republican Governor Ron DeSantis sparred with his Democratic opponent, former Republican Governor Charlie Crist, on issues like inflation, immigration, and the state's response to Hurricane Ian. We are learning more about a school shooting in St. Louis where two people were killed and seven more injured yesterday. The suspected gunman is also dead. Authorities say police shot and killed the gunman at the scene. In London a short time ago, Britain's new prime minister, Rishi Sunak, made his first speech to the nation. He's the first person of color ever to lead the government, and at 42 years old, he's the youngest premier in more than two centuries.
