11/10: Florida hit by another hurricane overnight. Russia says it is pulling out of a key region in Ukraine.
Florida hit by another hurricane overnight. Hurricane Nicole made landfall on the Atlantic coast, near Vero Beach early this morning. It later weakened to a tropical storm. Florida is still recovering from Hurricane Ian. We're still waiting for results in three key senate races this morning that could determine control of Congress. In Nevada, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto trails her Republican challenger Adam Laxalt, but she is gaining on him, as more votes are counted. In Arizona, Senator Mark Kelly's lead has grown over his Republican challenger, Blake Masters. While in Georgia, Senator Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker are headed to a runoff in December after neither got above 50 percent. Meta, parent company of Facebook, sent e-mails to 11,000 employees yesterday, telling them they no longer have jobs. Meta joins more than 30 other tech companies that have laid off employees this month alone. Russia says it is pulling out of a key region in the south of Ukraine. The military says it is withdrawing from Kherson, a move seen as a huge defeat for President Vladimir Putin. Putin annexed the region in September, making it part of Russia.

11/9: Votes continue to be counted in key battleground states. Democrats projected to pick up key Senate race, control of House leaning Republican.
A big surprise in the midterm election results so far, we're not seeing the GOP surge that many Republicans had forecast. With five races still to call, it's unclear who will control the Senate. Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, Georgia and Alaska still don't have a winner. Control of the House is leaning Republican, but only barely. Democrats, overall, are doing much better than expected. Incumbent Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto is trailing Republican challenger Adam Laxalt, but there are still a lot of votes left to count. A series of big wins for Republicans in Florida. Governor Ron DeSantis sailed to victory in his re-election campaign, beating former Governor Charlie Crist. In his victory speech last night, DeSantis thanked a long list of supporters, but he did not mention Donald Trump. The former president watched the results at his Mar-a-Lago resort and called it "a great evening," but he also tried to warn the governor against running again anytime soon.

11/8: Millions of Americans head to the polls today in midterm elections that could reshape the political landscape in Washington.
It is a very big day in America. People across the country are casting their ballots and in some areas, there are lines outside polling places. More than 40 million people voted early nationwide, and we are expecting high turnout today, with so much at stake. Where things stand in Washington now, Democrats control the House, but not by much. The Senate is split 50/50, but Democrats have control because Vice President Kamala Harris has the tie-breaking vote. Republicans hope to take both chambers. In 2020, the presidential election came down to the state of Pennsylvania, and it remains a state that is hard to predict. In Nevada, the economy is a top concern for many voters headed to the polls. That could be bad news for Democrats. The stakes are high this morning for Democrats and Republicans, and the American people of course. CBS News Senior White House and Political Correspondent, Ed O'Keefe, and CBS News Congressional Correspondent, Scott MacFarlane, are with us to discuss the potential impact of the election results around the country.

Republican political consultant on the midterm election & the rise and then demise of The Lincoln Project
Mike Madrid, GOP political consultant and co-founder of The Lincoln Project, joins CBS News congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane ahead of the midterm elections. He explains how the Latino vote is critical in many competitive races across the country, how Republicans have made inroads with the Hispanic population and why he thinks ticket splitting on Election Day is a good sign. Madrid also discusses how The Lincoln Project came together in an effort to defeat President Donald Trump in the 2020 election, how tension among the group's founders led to their separation and responds to criticism of the organization. Madrid is featured in the Showtime documentary series "The Lincoln Project," which chronicles the organization during the 2020 election. Showtime is a division of Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS News.

11/7: High stakes with the midterms just one day away. More than 40 million Americans have already cast their votes.
The midterms are just one day away, and the stakes could not be higher. Over the weekend, President Joe Biden and former presidents, Donald Trump and Barack Obama, campaigned in crucial battleground states. The two parties are delivering very different closing messages with vastly different visions as they battle for control of Congress. More than 40 million Americans have already cast their votes. That includes record early turnout for a midterm in Georgia. In 2020, Arizona chose a Democrat for president for the first time in 24 years, and this year, the contests are very tight again. Republican Kari Lake and Democrat Katie Hobbs are neck and neck in the governor's race, while Democratic Senator Mark Kelly hopes to fend off a challenge from Republican Blake Masters. Voters in Florida will also decide important races for senator and governor, but that campaign is also about something bigger, highlighted by dueling rallies yesterday held by former President Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

11/4:NBA star Kyrie Irving is suspended at least five games. Nearly 30 million Americans could see severe weather today.
Just four days before the midterms, control of Congress could hinge on Pennsylvania. We spoke to Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman. Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is back at the couple's San Francisco home this morning after being severely injured by a man, who prosecutors say intended to kidnap the speaker at the House. This morning, we have breaking news from the Korean peninsula where South Korea has scrambled jets in response to a massive show of force by the north. Here in this country, synagogues are on high alert in New Jersey -- following an FBI warning about what's described as a "broad" and "credible" threat. NBA star Kyrie Irving is being punished for supporting an anti-semitic film, and refusing to disavow anti-semitism. His team, the Brooklyn Nets, suspended him for at least five games without pay, and said he must take certain steps before he can play again. Nearly 30 million Americans could see severe weather today. A powerful system moving across the south will bring heavy rain and possible tornadoes.

11/3: Pres. Biden deliver speech about democracy ahead of midterms. Police dispatch audio from the Uvalde shooting reveals widespread miscommunication.
The debate over what's at stake in Tuesday's midterms, as many GOP candidates refuse to promise they'll accept the results if they lose. Last night, in a speech at Washington's Union Station, President Biden argued democracy itself is at risk. Our polling shows that right now, the economy is the number one issue for voters, amid worries about high inflation. Many of those suspicions about the democratic process stem from former President Trump's false claims about the 2020 election. The man charged with federal and state felonies in the assault of Paul Pelosi is now also facing possible detention by U.S. immigration officials. Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears to be on the brink of taking power again. Netanyahu was forced to step down last year amid corruption charges, for which he's still on trial. Newly-released police dispatch audio from the school massacre in Uvalde, Texas reveals widespread miscommunication during the police response at Robb Elementary School. These recordings, obtained by the Texas Tribune and ProPublica, show the desperation inside the school during 77 minutes of terror. In Florida, the gunman who killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was sent to prison yesterday after a stormy court hearing. A judge sentenced Nikolas Cruz to life without parole, the only possible punishment, after a jury refused to unanimously endorse the death penalty in the case. CBS, our parent company Paramount Global, and former CBS President and CEO, Leslie Moonves, have agreed to a settlement, worth more than $30 million, to resolve allegations of insider trading, misleading investigators, and attempting to conceal sexual assault claims. Moonves was fired in 2018 after harassment allegations against him became public. He denies any wrongdoing.
