11/21: New details on Colorado shooting. The World Cup has kicked off in Qatar.
Five people were killed and 25 injured Saturday night when a gunman opened fire inside a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs. The club is calling it a "hate attack." Governor Jared Polis, the first openly-gay man elected governor in the U.S., said "Colorado stands with our LGBTQ community." a major new legal challenge for former President Trump. He is the subject of multiple investigations, and now the possibility of criminal charges is getting closer attention. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the appointment of a special counsel, who begins work today. It's nearly thanksgiving and many people are already on the move. AAA expects nearly 55 million people will travel for the holiday. That's the third highest number it has ever recorded. The world's biggest sporting event, The World Cup, has kicked off in Qatar. And despite facing multiple controversies, there was a lavish opening ceremony yesterday, complete with a massive fireworks display. In the opening match, host nation Qatar lost to Ecuador. The U.S., team is hoping to have better luck today against wales.

Breaking news overseas, South Korea and Japan are reporting that North Korea fired an intercontinental ballistic missile this morning that had the potential of reaching all of the U.S. mainland. The Biden administration has determined that Saudi Arabia's crown prince is immune from a lawsuit regarding murdered Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. After Twitter's new owner, Elon Musk, gave employees an ultimatum -- work extra hard, or quit. Many chose to walk away. Now, sources tell Reuters the company's offices are closed until Monday.

A major shift in power on Capitol Hill. The Republican party has secured the 218 seats needed to win the House majority. Some disturbing new developments in the case of four murdered students at the University of Idaho. All four were killed with some kind of blade, but no murder weapon was found, and police are walking back earlier statements that there's no further threat. The U.S. And NATO say the missile that killed two people in Poland was actually fired by Ukraine, which was defending itself against a Russian barrage. Ukraine's government says the missile is Russian. Former Vice President Mike Pence is slamming former President Trump for his actions on January 6th. Face the Nation moderator, Margaret Brennan, spoke to Pence about his former boss and why Pence still won't testify on what happened that day.

An alarming situation in Poland, our NATO ally, where a missile landed in a village, killing two people. It happened just across Ukraine's border, after Russia's biggest missile barrage of the war caused heavy damage across Ukraine. Poland's president said it appears to be a quote "unfortunate accident," and President Biden says it's very possible that the missile came from Ukraine. At the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia, President Biden rounded up other world leaders overnight to discuss the missile explosion in Poland. After spending the last two years claiming the 2020 election was stolen from him, former President Trump is officially ready for 2024. Last night, he announced he's running to get back into the White House, despite a number of legal troubles, and just days after a disastrous midterm where many of his endorsed candidates were defeated. CBS News now estimates Republicans are one seat away from winning the 218 seats needed for a slim majority in the House, after failing to take over the Senate. Both of the top GOP leaders on Capitol Hill, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, are facing challenges from within their party.

CBS News projects Democrat Katie Hobbs will be the next governor of Arizona, defeating Republican Kari Lake, a favorite of former President Trump. It'll be the first time Arizona has had a Democratic Governor and two Democratic senators since 1951. Sources close to former President Donald Trump tell CBS News, he intends to launch his 2024 presidential campaign tonight, from Mar-a-Lago. He's been telling allies he plans to move forward, despite taking some heat within the GOP over disappointing results in the midterms. Russia's war on Ukraine dominated today's G20 Summit talks. President Biden is meeting with other world leaders in Indonesia. Delegates discussed whether Ukraine should seek a peace deal. The University of Virginia says all three students who were shot to death Sunday night played for the school's football team. Police allege they were killed by a fellow student and former player, who was arrested yesterday after an hours-long manhunt. Four students at the University of Idaho have been killed, in what the local mayor calls a "crime of passion." police are treating this as a homicide case, but are saying little else about the investigation. Protests against the Islamic regime in Iran have been going on for weeks and the government is still trying to crack down. It has confirmed the first death sentence for a protester, someone accused of setting fire to a government building.

A landmark meeting between two of the world's most powerful leaders, President Biden and China's President Xi Jinping. They spoke for about three hours in Indonesia this morning, ahead of the upcoming G20 summit. U.S. officials say the discussion ranged from Taiwan's future to Russia's war in Ukraine and the leaders agreed to work together. Ukraine's president made a surprise visit to a key city just freed from Russian troops. Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Kherson this morning and spoke to soldiers and civilians, calling the liberation "the beginning of the end of the war." We now know who will control the U.S. Senate for the next two years. After a lengthy vote count, CBS News projects Senator Catherine Cortez Masto was re-elected in Nevada. That gives Democrats and their independent allies at least 50 seats, enough to keep control with a potential tie-breaking vote from Vice President Kamala Harris. Control of the House remains unclear, with fewer than a dozen seats still undecided. Breaking news from the University of Virginia, where officials say a gunman who killed three people is on the loose. The shooting happened late last night on the campus in Charlottesville, Virginia. Police are searching for a student who authorities believe pulled the trigger. Investigators in Texas are trying to find out what caused two vintage military aircraft to collide mid-air and plunge to the ground at an air show. Six people on board the planes were killed Saturday.
