Sometimes I like to sing, okay more than sometimes I like to sing. This week it seemed that everything Stephen said turned into a song on my part. It's time we catch up on ALL the photo news. Since we did not have the photo news in the last two episodes we had a lot of catch up to do. One of the biggest news stories of the last few weeks was the lead up to the Nikon Df announcement. Many of you may be wounding why Stephen or I did not get in on the "rumors", you will find out in this weeks Episode. After we catch up on all the news there is a very special interview that I conducted. I sat down with my high school teacher who showed me the way as a new photographer. He is the reason I do not crop and fill the frame. This is a very personal interview that I hope lets you reflect on a teacher that you had that made a difference in your direction and life. What do you get when you mix a late night RAWtalk session with a small bit of drinking? You get the recap of this years PPE in NYC. Stephen and I spent one entire day roaming the show floor of the Javitz center playing with toys and interviewing booth babes. We spend most of this show discussing what we thought of the show before we jump into your flying solo questions that pertained to the show. The first part of the show is spent on the recap and the last part is the actual audio from the show floor. The tides were turned and I was the guest on the BlackRapid Podcast a few weeks back in Seattle. Let me explain why you are hearing this interview this week. Stephen and I were up in NYC at the Photo show filming on the show floor on Thursday and I was back up there on Saturday. We wanted to put together a special podcast from the photo show in NYC. So what is happening is Stephen is editing together the best interviews and clips from our filming and we will have a special podcast next week. Last Saturday a bunch of Fro Readers met Stephen and I in Philadelphia for a last minute FrotoWALK. Unlike some of my other FrotoWALKS we actually walked around the city looking for and capturing images. I had a fantasy time and met some truly great people. On this weeks RAWtalk I sit down with someone who has created a very selective directory of photographers to help them stand out in a noisy word. Stephen and I discuss the Photo News of the week along with a few other topics. Playing on the theme of standing out in this noisy world I discuss a new book from my friend Gary Vaynerchuck called Jab Jab Jab Right Hook. This book is poised to give you that kick in the butt you have been looking for to help your photography grow. Finally the gear of the week comes from RODE who sent me out some new over the ear microphones to try out on an upcoming RAWtalk Episode. We live in a crowded world of photographers "trying" to make it. Many people want to know how to get noticed and I think I have found one answer. Wonderful Machine is not your typical "agency", in fact they don't consider themselves an agency at all. Agencies take a percentage of your business and WM does not. Wonderful Machine can more accurately be described as a photographer directory and that is extremely important. Be sure to listen to the interview I conducted with WM founder Bill Cramer and find out if you have what it takes to be added to their machine. I know so many of you out there want to know what the secret is to making it. The truth, there is no secret, it's a mix of hard work, meeting the right people with a small mix of being in the right place at the right time, AKA luck.
