ACCESS THE FULL EPISODE: https://www.patreon.com/posts/extended-episode-93912286?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=postshare_creator&utm_content=join_linkI tend to think boredom as a PAINFUL, unavoidable piece of humanity + I try to distract myself and relieve the pain through novelty + exploration. But here's the thing... Boredom is an emotion like any other. It doesn't define me. It defines a feeling. And feelings are there to communicate something. Let it communicate, listen, and adjust. Don't resist it. Sometimes the magic is lying right below the surface - and we have to allow ourselves settle in silence long enough to find it. Being bored is not a waste of time. It’s something your brain needs to learn, grow, and recharge. So, do yourself a favor: Give yourself a few minutes a day to let your mind zone out. You and your brain deserve it.I am learning that not all quiet spaces need to be filled with sound and not all grounded feet need to be moving. There is beauty in boredom. We have forgotten how to just be. - Jennae CeceliaTIME STAMPS: 0:00-6:45 Defining Boredom + all the nuance6:45-8:00 Chronic Proneness to Boredom8:00-10:00 Absent-mindedness10:00-15:00 being bored is human (and a privilege?)15:00-20:00 Boredom Perks (the science20:00-25:00 Changing perspective to embrace boredom25:00 - 28:00 Concluding thoughtsRESOURCES: https://www.betterhelp.com/advice/general/my-life-is-boring-how-do-i-make-it-interesting/https://www.betterhelp.com/advice/general/my-life-is-boring-how-do-i-make-it-interesting/https://theconversation.com/five-ways-boredom-could-be-changing-your-behaviour-for-better-or-worse-155784 https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0191886920304852 https://www.regain.us/advice/general/im-so-bored-with-life-five-tips-for-finding-fulfillment/ https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-engaged-mind/202205/why-we-find-some-people-boringhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BoredomSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 996 || actionable optimism
"Changeable optimists don’t shy away from criticism of the status quo. In fact, they’re often its fiercest critics. People often mistake pessimism for critical thought and optimism for pollyannaism. In reality, progress is built by those who can look critically at a suite of solutions, discard the bad ones, and find and sharpen the gems that remain. Pessimists use criticism as a wall, while optimists use it as a guiding door." - By Hannah RitchieRESOURCES: https://www.vox.com/the-highlight/23622511/climate-doomerism-optimism-progress-environmentalismGET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only.
