993 || the 3 branches of government

it’s the elected government's obligation to listen to their constituents — meaning that you have a say in what they do.The United States Senate has a page on their website dedicated to helping you find your senator. Every state has 2. All you need to do is enter your ZIP code, hit enter, and the website will tell you who the Senators are for your state, which party they’re part of, and will link directly to their website, where their contact information will be listed.You can also call 1-844-USA-0234 (1-844-872-0234) and enter your zip code to be connected directly with your elected officials. You can find your local elected officials using My Reps. All you need to do is enter your address to find your representatives at a local, county, state or federal level, and you can filter out the results so you only get exactly what you’re looking for. If you’re nervous about what to say, 5 Calls is an organization that generates scripts for you to use while on the phone. They have a database of common causes people call their representatives about, as well as an ongoing newsletter on latest issues. You can also use Resistbot, a tool that helps you connect to your elected officials via text message. Just text the word “RESIST” to 50409 and follow the directions they message back. Resistbot will turn your texts into a letter or email, and deliver it to your elected officials.RESOURCES: https://www.wired.com/story/opengov-report-congress-constituent-communication/GET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. 990 || radical compassion towards madness

"... mad methodology primes us to extend radical compassion to the madpersons, queer personae, ghosts, freaks, weirdos, imaginary friends, disembodied voices, unvoiced bodies, and unReasonable others, who trespass, like stowaways or fugitives, in Reasonable modernity. Radical compassion is a will to care for, a commitment to feel with, a striving to learn from, and an openness to be vulnerable before a precarious other, though they may be drastically dissimilar to yourself. Radical compassion is not an appeal to an idyllic oneness where difference is blithely effaced. Nor is it a smug projection of oneself into the position of another, thereby displacing that other. Nor is it an invitation to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes and amble, like a tourist, through their lifeworld, leaving them existentially barefoot all the while. Rather, radical compassion is an exhortation to ethically walk and sit and fight and build alongside another whose condition may be utterly unlike your own. Radical compassion works to impart care, exchange feeling, transmit understanding, embolden vulnerability, and fortify solidarity across circumstantial, sociocultural, phenomenological, and ontological chasms in the interest of mutual liberation. It persists even and especially toward beings who are the objects of contempt and condemnation from dominant value systems." - Dr. La Marr Jurelle Bruce  RESOURCES: PDF for chapter 1: https://www.dukeupress.edu/Assets/PubMaterials/978-1-4780-1087-6_601.pdfBUY THE BOOK: https://www.dukeupress.edu/how-to-go-mad-without-losing-your-mind?utm_source=intro&utm_medium=title%20page&utm_campaign=pdf-intros-Apr21AUTHOR INFO: https://afamstudies.yale.edu/people/la-marr-bruceINSPIRING POST: https://ismatu.substack.com/p/there-is-no-revolution-without-madness#details and https://blog.apaonline.org/2023/04/25/the-blacker-the-madness-the-balmy-methodologies-of-la-marr-jurelle-bruce/GET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. 988 || final thoughts on learning a new language

Learning a language is a lifelong challenge but worth the effort for the worlds it unlocks. That said, you're going to be far more successful if you learn to make learning fun, exciting, and specific to you. You're special. Your learning strategies should be, too! 987 || hacks for learning español

Barry Lewis said: “If your priority truly is to speak, then speak already! Do other things too, as these are all part of the language learning experience and necessary to live a full life through the language, but speak! Speak NOW. Meet a native in person or online and show them what you’re made of, make mistakes and get through it – this is the best way to speak better quickly.”RESOURCES: https://www.babbel.com/en/magazine/first-step-for-learning-a-language and https://preply.com/en/blog/how-to-learn-spanish-and-succeed/GET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcast and tiktok.com/@mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. 986 || learn like a kid

as per we must embrace the way kids learn. The direct link between age and the ability to learn is tenuous, with some studies dispelling the myth that children are inherently better learners than adults. The key to learning as quickly as a child may be simply to take on certain childlike attitudes: a lack of self-consciousness, a desire to play in the language and a willingness to make mistakes. Plus, it helps to come in with fewer preconceived notions about what a language is and can be. Humans learn by making mistakes. As kids, we are expected to make mistakes, but as adults, mistakes are taboo. Think how an adult is more likely to say “I can’t” rather than “I haven’t learned that yet.” To be seen failing (or merely struggling) is a social taboo that doesn’t burden children as much. When it comes to learning a language, admitting that you don’t know everything is the key to growth and freedom. Let go of your grown-up inhibitions! Matthew Youlden said, “I tend to want to absorb as much as possible right from the start. So if I learn something, I really, really go for it and try to use it throughout the day. As the week progresses I try to think in it, try to write in it, try to speak to myself even in that language. For me, it’s about actually putting what you’re learning into practice — be that writing an email, speaking to yourself, listening to music, listening to the radio. Surrounding yourself, submerging yourself in the new language culture is extremely important.” Here are 10 of Matthew’s best language-learning tips.WHERE AS John McWhorter, leading linguistics expert said, “The other thing is having realistic expectations of how much time you’re going to spend a day. For example, when I’m not doing my Mandarin lessons, which involve going and talking to a person for an hour and a half … 15 minutes, maybe 20 minutes a day. That’s about all the time I have. If I tried to make it more, I would get intimidated, and I probably couldn’t fit it in because, if you’re a busy person, life doesn’t offer you naked half hours, and certainly not whole hours.”GET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. 985 || it's not a chore

KEY is repetition and regularity.habit forming is about focus, not time Aim to reliably trigger new desired behavior so it becomes second nature. Anchor it to an established habit. here is some some advice from Matthew Youlden, a polyglot who speaks nine languages:  Don’t isolate your study of the language from the rest of your life — you’re not learning Spanish in order to talk about learning Spanish. Instead, think of Spanish as a new way to experience your everyday life: Change the display language on your computer to Spanish, find Spanish-language movies and TV shows to watch (with Spanish subtitles, not English), get your news or celebrity gossip fix from Spanish-language websites, check out Spanish-language podcasts and youtube videos on topics that already interest you. If you use Spanish to do things that you’d be doing anyway, studying daily will become an automatic reflex instead of a dreaded chore.GET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only.
