[Original airdate: 10/17/24] Mary welcomes back Pete Garcia for a conversation about the Apocalypse. The media is using “of biblical proportions” more and more to describe the world we are in. Climate change, economic meltdown, natural disasters (“birth pangs”) and AI takeover of the human race all contribute to apocalyptic fear and fervor. We look at the exponential increase of these types of films over the last 100 years, as well as headlines that invoke fear. To what end? There are multiple answers to that question, but they do include keeping the masses fearful and in crisis mode, but also it plays right into the anticipation of the man with the answers – the Antichrist. Is there also a fear of death that these movies seem to bring actual consolation? Perhaps, since the phrase, “post-apocalyptic” is so common today, and describes those who have survived the worst and lived to tell, and renovate, and repopulate. A fascinating subject that ends with our hope, and how to spread that instead of terror.  Pete Garcia is a military combat veteran and aviator, writer, researcher, speaker, and teacher of Bible prophecy and apologetics with a BA in International Relations and a graduate of the US Army’s prestigious Command and General Staff College. There seems to be no end to the back and forth politicization of every possible way to sway the west toward the current pro-Hamas agenda. We also discuss an insidious bill in the California Assembly designed to empower the state to control children; we look at those who have weighed in on that. Another topic is the Mesquite, TX mosque and its proselytizing of children who attend taxpayer funded schools. We don’t necessarily need to explore who is behind it, but rather ask ourselves how is this being allowed to take place at all? Finally, we talk about EU censorship that has gone so far down the rabbit hole there is no going back. Today Mary continues what she started back on July 24, looking long and hard at anxiety and the plague of worry that has many Americans – and a considerable number of believers – tied up in knots. Oftentimes, unfairly, we simply throw a Bible verse at a person who is living in a pattern of anxiety, as if that is an instant cure. And, technically, it is – but there is something about the hole of anxiety that seems to require some critical thinking, AND doing, to get free. Anxiety, and it’s offspring, depression, (Proverbs 12:25) are not what God has for us, and so if we do find ourselves in such a season, there is no reason to founder and get sidetracked, or worse yet, shipwrecked. There are several practical things we can do and there IS a way forward. We look at psychology, an opposing worldview that offers no hope, and we talk about all the ways that anxiety wants to get hold and linger, even through spiritual warfare. Our enemy does not play fair. So, we will stare this down together and come away with tools to help, including getting past being our own worst enemy from time to time. Overcomers, we are. Tim and Mary take a look at the latest news cycle, with the specific underlying theme of the greatest headline in a generation, that of the modern nation of Israel. Much of the church has left the position of Israel being the main player in God’s last days plan. What are some of the things we are following right now?  The UN and their obsession with a 2-state solution has caused the world to think that 1) if they say it often enough it will happen, and 2) it IS the solution to the “Mideastmess”.  Israel expert Jim Fletcher asks the question, “what will happen when France (and other co-conspirators) declares a Palestinian state? Absolutely nothing. The US and Israel are nowhere to be found here politically or philosophically. Also today we talk about the 9th of Av, an annual commemoration and period of mourning in Israel that occurs each Summer at some point. This is a day to remember the destruction of both Jewish temples, but so much more – a very interesting dot-connecting exercise. PASTOR CLAUDE STAUFFER On today’s podcast, we welcome back Pastor Claude Stauffer of Calvary Chapel of Hope in Amityville, NY. Pastor Claude is a graduate of Hofstra University (B.A. Sociology) and Asbury Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity). He has been in ministry since 1986 and presently serves as the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel of Hope, a church he has served from its beginning in 1993. He served bi-vocationally as a pastor and social worker for 16 years. He is the author of over 30 books, the latest of which is a thorough look at the person and work of the Holy Spirit and has a vital radio ministry to the Northeast and beyond. Today we look at the first few chapters of Zechariah in order to understand the who, what, and how of being used by Him. Primarily, the key verse is “Not by might, not by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord ” (Zech. 4:6). So much of what goes on in the church seems to point to a generation that thinks worship-tainment, a best-selling self-help book, and programs are the way to accomplish the work of God, when really, none of that works. Mary welcomes back Linda Harvey of Mission America to talk about the upcoming school year, and the propaganda calendar that is put into place from the moment they walk in the doors, to the last day in June during “Pride Month”. We take a look at all the woke and brainwashing events that kids are subject to, none of which have anything to do with the concept of education. Wouldn’t it be great to have, say, something like “Holocaust Remembrance Day” to key in on actual injustice, historically factual and worthy of study? Or is it better to teach on perversion and shame those kids who don’t want to partake? Is it possible for our kids to be change agents, or is opting out the best choice? We also look at some rulings that might allow a lot of these weekly LGBTQ events to go away quietly. Teaching kids to make it in the real world with academics would be quite the concept in schools today. Originally coined in the 1990’s, the Information Superhighway was a term used to describe digital communication systems that is mostly associated with then Senator and future Vice President Al Gore. The basic idea was to be able to provide access to information to all, no matter what the level of income was. With the explosion of the World Wide Web, essentially, the Internet became the information superhighway. Other resources describe the concept as “…directly connects millions of people, each both a consumer of information and a potential provider…” or “a route or network for the high-speed transfer of information…” or “something that will link every home or office to everything else – movies and television shows, shopping services…” And it changed the world. No one saw it coming, any more than people alive in 1890 anticipated the US Freeway system. With that in mind, today’s news cycle gets some context as we talk about all the headlines fit for a Wednesday! We start off with trending news, including the historical 8.8 quake in far eastern Russia. Is it one of the biggest in history as is being claimed? Then we talk about the Trump EU tariff deal and what it means for geopolitics. Tim takes on hurricanes and the frequency of those over the last couple years, and it’s probably for a reason you did not expect. We look at an immigration warning for America based on the July deal signed between Starmer and Macron. Finally, AI is spiritual. Dr. JB Hixson Stand Up welcomes back JB Hixson to talk about faith and the free exercise thereof. What begins as that which saves us opens a door to a brand new life as a new creation. As we begin this life, what is important? Faith comes by hearing so that systematic study of the Scriptures must undergird all we do as our hearts and minds are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, the same power that rose our Saviour from the grave. Walking by faith then is the workout of our lives! What does that look like? Of course, God has a different path for each of us and no one can walk that walk for us. But God’s word applies to ALL of us! What a glorious operating manual for all things pertaining to life and godliness. All means all here, we can assume that. So as we move forward, what are some of the things that might challenge our faith, make it like gold tried in the furnace? When things don’t make sense, when our prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling, when people hurt us or betray us or when tragedy strikes, what is our response? Does the response change from year to year as we move forward in Christ? Growing beyond our circumstances prepares us for eternity. Life is hard and full of challenges but faith, along with hope and love, remain.
