Dr. JB Hixson Stand Up welcomes back JB Hixson to talk about faith and the free exercise thereof. What begins as that which saves us opens a door to a brand new life as a new creation. As we begin this life, what is important? Faith comes by hearing so that systematic study of the Scriptures must undergird all we do as our hearts and minds are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, the same power that rose our Saviour from the grave. Walking by faith then is the workout of our lives! What does that look like? Of course, God has a different path for each of us and no one can walk that walk for us. But God’s word applies to ALL of us! What a glorious operating manual for all things pertaining to life and godliness. All means all here, we can assume that. So as we move forward, what are some of the things that might challenge our faith, make it like gold tried in the furnace? When things don’t make sense, when our prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling, when people hurt us or betray us or when tragedy strikes, what is our response? Does the response change from year to year as we move forward in Christ? Growing beyond our circumstances prepares us for eternity. Life is hard and full of challenges but faith, along with hope and love, remain. Brian is an internationally known speaker and author, was a teacher and principal for ten years before becoming director of Creation Instruction Association and has a creation museum in Broken Bow, Nebraska. He has been doing high energy talks on the topic of creation and Biblical authority for over 25 years, doing debates at Universities, going into prisons, and sharing at churches, schools and camps around the world to kids and adults alike. He uses scientific demonstrations and high-energy talks filled with Scripture and science, all to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to lift up Biblical authority in every aspect of life. John Haller is back to bring us headlines from any and every corner and byway of the “information superhighway”. Remember when the internet was called that? A highway of information, bumper to bumper and filled with potholes? Well, they had that right. And it’s very hard to find an exit ramp if you are on it, because it gets weirder by the day. Today we talk about a treasonous conspiracy that frankly, most Americans will not have any trouble believing – the Clinton/Obama/DOJ/Biden mafia circle of influence on American politics circa 2016. We all know that something went really wrong and still, few of us think anything will come of it. We also talk about AI and the dangers, which change daily – and affect every person in the Western world at least. For now. Soon enough it will engulf the globe via technocracy. Then there’s Turkey and it’s love fest with Qatar. Back in 2023, following the Hamas brutality against Israel, Qatar was hosting some negotiations, something that should have sent up multiple red flags. Just whom is in bed with whom over there? Did you ever wake up in the morning with rampant negativity sucking the life out of you? The flesh just doesn’t want to face the same troubles and anxieties you went to bed with. This is not only common, but it is also a sure way for the enemy of hope to get us defeated before we even put one foot on the floor. Recognizing the pattern is the start of traveling more hopefully, taking those thoughts captive. Today we look at some of the ways to be more hopeful, be less gullible, and all in all have a more positive outlook that stems from unshakeable faith in the Lord, for everything big and small. If the enemy’s greatest tool is deception, our most potent weapon is truth and lots of it. I always figure, if we are not depressed from time to time, we aren’t paying close enough attention. But that needn’t be our way of life. Head into the wind, against the current – that would be us, and we get weary. Sometimes we get anxious, and it can be debilitating. How can we get that out of our lives? Is it possible? Oh yes.  Talking hope in the midst of whatever, we all need that. Mary welcomes back Juan Valdes of Reasons for Hope to discuss the hows and whys of critical thinking in a post-truth world. Humans bring many biases, indoctrinations and emotions to so many issues of the day, and seem content to take most things at face value instead of thinking things through in context. Words have meaning, and even before we speak, our thoughts have already given birth to a multitude of possible words – and actions. No believer can ever hope to be an effective apologist without understanding the importance of thinking things through – with the goal of giving an answer to all who ask about our hope. Social media, in fact, is probably the main contributor to the destruction of meaningful discourse in the public square. We talk about how critical thinking is indispensable in our lives at any age. Juan is the senior pastor of a Spanish-speaking congregation in Florida and has worked at a Christian school as both a chaplain and a teacher for more than 20 years. His educational background includes graduate work at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and master’s degrees from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and Logos Graduate School. He has a Doctor of Ministry in Apologetics from Southern Evangelical Seminary. Mary welcomes back Russ Miller to talk about science in general, and how not all science is reliable, except of course that which originates from God – and constitutes truth. Truly, the point of divergence between secular, historical science and operational science paradigms is TIME. Genesis starts out with “in the beginning”, and humans who refuse the literal interpretation of creation have decided that the earth must be billions of years old, and that eventually, time and chance would produce mankind, after an extended period of death. Now, that sounds crazy to the believer but if you insist on proving the Bible wrong, this is your starting point, to claim mankind just appeared and there was no original sin. Secular Nobel scientist George Wald puts it perfectly: “Time is in fact the hero of the plot…given so much time, the impossible becomes possible, the possible probable, and the probable virtually certain. One has only to wait; time itself performs the miracles…” A quote only those who refuse to believe the Bible could love! Talk about exchanging the truth of God for a lie! Russ helps us understand the differences between operational and historical science, and why believers must understand how this forms our worldview. Tim and Mary come bearing headlines for another round of news and commentary. Today we discuss persecution in America, as anti-Christian rhetoric ramps up in diverse places. Last week we chatted with Todd Nettleton of Voice of the Martyrs to learn about our church family overseas; today we talk about perils in the US – and opportunities to stand firm for the faith. We also look at the latest with the IRS statement allowing pulpits to promote political candidates. Good, bad, ugly? Freedom of speech is always good, and just because it comes from the side of those who preach morals and are pro-life, doesn’t make it less valuable. In fact, the world needs more words of value spoken by God’s people on many subjects. But, we also have people in pews who think differently about politics and candidates. Is this a breeding ground for divisiveness, and what about those who really don’t come to church to hear about politics on any level? Just askin’. We also talk about the 2-state solution and hostility against Jews. Did we really think we would be left out of that danger zone, where our Jewish brethren are suffering for their beliefs but not the church?
