Work to the Glory of God

I deeply believe that I have been called to do the work I do. And that through the work I do, I have the amazing opportunity to glorify God. Recently, I was able to preach a sermon entitled “Work to the Glory of God”. After listening back, I thought that this would be great to share with you. Whether you believe in God or not, I am confident you will find encouragement in what you are doing and maybe even clarity in things you desire to pursue. Here are a few notes: The way God works God works to create – Gen 1 God works to care by providing for his creation – Gen 2 God works to cultivate – Gen 2:15 (work it and keep it) This means: Work is God-given (this is part of why we were created). Work is good The Gospel lens at work Honor God first, earn a wage second (1 Cor 6:19-20) Serve others, even at your own expense (Matt 20:25-28) Work as unto the Lord (Col 3:23) The way we work As employees: Work with respect and fear (Eph 6:5a) Work with sincerity of heart (Eph 6:5b) Work hard always (Eph 6:6) Work with a good will (Eph 6:7) As employers: You are no better or different (titles at work distort worth and value) Fear should not be used to motivate (God-honoring character motivates) Treat everyone the same. As always, I appreciate your feedback so let me know what you think of this episode by emailing me at ryan@ryanjamesmiller.com Direct links to podcast: Spotify – http://bit.ly/spotify-exsellence Apple – http://bit.ly/apple-exsellence YouTube – Exsellence Mindset Channel Connect with me: LinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/in/rjmsalespro Instagram – @rjmsalepro Twitter @rjmsalespro Web – https://ryanjamesmiller.com/The post Work to the Glory of God first appeared on Ryan James Miller.

Fatherhood on Fire: Building a Foundation for Fulfillment

Every so often, I am blessed with an opportunity to be on the other side of the microphone as a guest on someone else’s podcast. And recently, Ryan Sullivan invited me to do just that on his podcast, Fatherhood on Fire. Here’s what he had to say to describe our conversation together. Ryan brings the heat! We talk about Servant Leadership at home. The challenges he had to overcome to be the leader he wants to be at home. We dive deep into the social media post that caused me to reach out to Ryan as a guest.  Ryan’s oldest daughter, in her senior year, was informed she was going to play on the JV Water Polo. After the initial anger subsided she made the very mature decision to step back from water polo and focus on swimming which she is stronger at and expects to finish well at. She took the extra step to sit down individually with each of her coaches and explain her thought process around her decision and express her gratitude to them. Both coaches said it was the first time a student-athlete had ever had such a conversation with them. What we can take away from this as fathers: Give your children time to work through those situations instead of forcing them to make a decision when we want them to make it. It happened because their household celebrates effort over outcomes. As a result, they’re able to identify the leading indicators for why things are or are not going the way we hoped them to. By them as parents demonstrating their commitment to reward and punish based on effort, not outcomes allows their kids to test the waters and figure these things out instead of the fear of “I did or did not make the team.” Laying that foundation as parents have produced really great results in times like this. AND that means as adults in the house we need to set the same standards for ourselves. At the beginning of 2019, for the first time in more than 10 years, Ryan decided not to write down any goals. He chose instead to focus on who he wanted to be as a person, based on the identity below, and focus on the habits that lead to the fulfillment of that identity.  10 Habits: Read Everyday- First thing in the morning: Bible, current events, books that make him a better Christian, husband, father, coach, or consultant. Work out 5 days a week – focus first on health, then improvement, then achievement. Sleep a minimum of 7 hours a night. Meditate 10 minutes per week. Make good food choices – limit sugar, junk food, and alcohol. Date wife twice per month. Invest or save a minimum amount of money each month. Give a minimum amount of money each month. Create high-value content 5 days per week for business owners and salespeople. Invest in myself through personal and professional development. Personal Identity: Christian Husband Father Friend Athlete Pastor Business Leader Give it a listen and let me know what you think. The Journey from Pilot to President with Tim Lomakin

As crazy as it sounds, Tim Lomakin has been flying airplanes since he was 8 years old. A deep passion for flying coupled with hard work and commitment has earned him the role of President at Wing Aviation Group.  Tim has been a close friend to me for many years so I enjoyed digging into his story of growing up as a pilot, working for his dad’s charter jet company, and having to make the difficult decision to leave the family business and “fly” on his own. As you can imagine, both working for and leaving a family business can be very difficult. Yet Tim has managed to work his way into an amazing new opportunity that has quickly realized great success. We also chat about: The work ethic developed by working early Great leaders and leadership tactics When work and life start to collide Whether you are an aspiring pilot, a successful entrepreneur, or someone looking to create a life you love, this episode is for you. The Collective Effort to Sustain the Journey with Heather Falcone

I was sitting with a friend that shared this crazy story of one of his clients climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. The more he shared, the more I realized how much I wanted to hear the story from her. And doing so on this podcast seemed like a fitting context Heather Falcone is the CEO of Thermal-Vac Technology, Southern California’s premier brazing, heat-treating, and finishing facility. They work with some of the Aviation and Aerospace industry’s most recognized brands including NASA, Aerojet Rocketdyne, and Space-X. It took all of about two minutes into our conversation for me to love listening to Heather share her story. She opened up about growing up in a family business and eventually taking the reigns, her crazy reaction to being challenged to do an Ironman while she was overweight and out of shape, the horrific cancer diagnosis that could have ended her life, processing through her treatment with (and without) her family and friends, and her journey up Mount Kilimanjaro.  You will be deeply impacted as you hear Heather tell her story of fighting for her life, finally giving in to life-saving help, and why climaxing the mountain wasn’t the victory she celebrated when she was done. Her journey to this point and what she’s taken away are things we will all resonate with deeply, whether we are climbing an actual mountain or experiencing an uphill battle that we can’t wait to overcome.
