Sobertown is a growing community of like-minded people in recovery helping others start or maintain their sobriety.
We refer to ourselves as “Sober Warriors” because the fight against addiction is a grisly battle that takes no prisoners. Real people die every day from complications and repercussions of long-term alcohol use, a tragic end that is 100% preventable through increased awareness and connection.
Alcohol is so pervasive and normalized in our culture that it often gets a free pass into our lives when it’s really a cancer-causing drug that can slowly wreak havoc on all states of our well-being: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental, vocational, and intellectual.
But we’re not here simply to shine a light on alcohol’s ugly side.
We’re forming a village of sober individuals from all walks of life that share a common goal - to support others in recovery while also increasing the dialogue around the many positive aspects of sobriety versus the darkness of addiction.

EP 217: Erin Eileen’s Recovery Story
Erin Eileen’s Story
King 13 has is always impressed by these young men and women who join the IAS community, bravely turn up at zooms and contribute to the community. They have become aware and taken responsibility for their sobriety. We may think that having grown up with 'no alcohol' in the home would influence children not to drink. Not the case, Erin tells how she got involved with drinking, what drove her into the IAS community and the sheer work she did in 2021 to maintain 328 days AF. Erin considers herself a feminist and I see her passion for equality. We women have to support each other, it is key.

EP 216: How Do You Help Someone Stop Drinking Before it’s Too Late? What if It’s You?
Boom Rethink the Drink,
Yesterday I had a chance to talk with my friend Drifter for his Sober Town Podcast. It was International Women's Day so we had planned to talk about the toxicity of alcohol marketing directed at women, but after a couple of days of multiple postings in our communities on the deadly result of alcohol addiction, we decided instead to focus on the questions of "how do you stop drinking before it goes too far?" - "how do you help someone you love who seems lost to the bottle?" Drifter and I have both lost brothers to their addictions and we have both found solid dry ground after breaking out of our addictions. Do we have the answers to these questions with the years of personal experience we both have as the addicted and the loved one of the addict? We came up with two answers by the end of our talk and those answers were all about beacons and light houses. My beacons that guided me to stop drinking and stay sober were young and old and somewhere in between. We all grew up with the basic premise that handling our liquor was a badge of courage in cultures and families that celebrate drinking hard and handling it. Cultures and families that laugh at hangovers, distrust sobriety, celebrates the drug and shame the addict. All of us started drinking as a right of passage from childhood into adulthood. Some of us waited until we came of age and some of us started drinking younger but in one way or another we were mimicking the behavior of the adults that we knew. Maybe we admired their ability to function highly, to handle their booze, or maybe we said we’d never drink like they did, but drink we did because that is what adults do. Those adults were our beacons and we followed where they led us. It makes perfect sense that to find another path beacons of a different sort are needed. And it makes perfect sense that those of us who have fought our way out of addiction after helplessly watching loved ones die- chose to be lighthouses -- join us for our conversation and find the links to the communities and articles we discuss in the Boozemusings post below.

EP 213: Sobriety - A lifestyle not Death Sentence
Sobriety - A lifestyle not Death Sentence.
Ft. Rags, No More Wining & Lilo11
When I first decided to quit alcohol the mere thought was an impossible one. I wondered 'how' could I possibly give up alcohol, my constant companion, that went practically everywhere with me.
How eliminating poison from our mind & bodies opens up a rebirth to live a content, high anxiety free life.
So King invited some OG's with sober experience to share their progress so far. Rags, No More Wining & Lilo11 discuss just how their lives (styles) have changed or not. Sobriety is living 'normal' in HD, clean of substances, the way our bodies were meant to organically function. Yet society is so prevalent with Alcohol Use Disorder. 12.7 % of American are affected. Take note of very wise words from Rags' son Luke (Luke leading the way 9 years sober !!) who expressed his thoughts on the subject.
So much wisdom, fun and adventure is the path on sobriety. To be present and be TRUSTED again by YOURSELF and OTHERS, all aspects of your relationships will improve. You are worth it, pour the poison down the sink grab a coffee, get comfy and enjoy.

EP 209: Cross Addictions - King13 Ft. Armen
Cross Addiction.
Quote:"Charlotte Davis Kasl Ph.d, author of Many Roads One Journey. Moving Beyond the 12 steps.
"If a person gives up one addiction or dependency without 'healing the wounds' they will switch to another."
King is joined by Armen who openly discusses his own personal experiences with cross addictions'. We stop one and then another appears or is it an 'old habit'. The beauty of sobriety they agree is the clarity with which you are able to make the best decision for you. We again chase the 'quick dopamine release! No matter what your choice with the most common addictions they will only temporarily also fill the void and numb the pain. We may be quick to panic that more is wrong with us than just our primary addiction, maybe so, only you can take a deep look inside and listen.
