Why are media interviews so nerve wracking, and what can you do to make them effective and stress free?
Get Noticed! Send a text.Interviews are so critical to the building of a PR story but they are also a cause of stress, especially when it is live on television or radio. So what can you do to prepare yourself and the journalists in advance of the interview? There are some simple and effective steps to take, which are done by an agency like EASTWEST PR , but which should be done by anyone preparing for an interview. I mention the SPEAK|pr template which includes the message home. You can download your copy for free here.Different media respond in different ways, but the repeating themes are scarcity of time and abundance of information. It's important to help the journalist to filter through the volume and to provide just the information that the client wants to share. Storification - How can you use books as part of your PR plan? Author, contributor or subject?
Get Noticed! Send a text.Storify - in our 5 stage methodology I begin with the power of stories, and the importance of them. As Park Howell said in his podcast this week, even the dollar bill is a story…everyone believes in the essential promise of payment when holding this piece of paper. In this podcast, I share about how companies and entrepreneurs can get in and amongst the 250,000 business book titles on sale. Apparently achieving publishing success is 5% writing a good book and 95% marketing. But for PR, publishing a book isn't with the goal of making money but rather of creating awareness of the company, it's working practices, it's leaders in a way that builds authority.Listen to some of the tools which I mention for writing a book, including transcription service otter.ai, but also other ways to participate in publishing long-form content.I share how Professor WLG James, my father, published "Fiction for the Working Man" in 1963 and is still a sought after authority on literature from the 1830-1850 period today. There are many side benefits to publishing, including learning about new trends, technologies and reaching out to people who otherwise would not find a connection.----------------Show notes above -----&------More Info below----------------------Listen to this and our other episodes to get a high-level view and practical level tools for getting noticed for free. Please Subscribe to the show and rate it. Brilliant SPEAK|PR finds its VOICE Image; find out how you can find yours!
Get Noticed! Send a text.A conversation with Ed West, professional presentation coach to CEO's about his recent articles on the power of Donald Trump's prose, and what we can learn about hyperbole, repetition and voice image.Ed and I talked about Voice image, the 'secret' of people who use their voices professionally. Actors, radio broadcasters, television presenters, politicians, tele-marketers, professional speakers, all of whom depend on the impression their voice makes for success, know its importance. Thanks to Ed's great guidance I went off to evaluate my own voice image, and share in this podcast how people who are responsible for being the voice of the company need to take into consideration breath control, articulation, volume, pitch, tone, pausing and speaking rate.Listen to how to alter your Voice Imag when talking with different audiences, including cultures. Having lived in Asia for 25 years I realize in my own video's that I am speaking very ssslllooowwwllyyy.I checked my own EASTWEST PR page using the Flesch-Kincaid readability test and found that it has a grade level of about 7. How to avoid being sued for defamation, and PR strategies for defendants and plaintiffs .
Get Noticed! Send a text. When I returned from China to the UK, I was sent nasty legal letters by a company for defamation - luckily I wasn't about to be intimidated, had good legal counsel and some experience in defending myself. In this day and age of lawyers and social media, it's important to know your rights as both someone defending yourself and making legitimate claims against those who have done wrong. In this episode I'll talk about the different aspects of defamation and how I have worked with clients to overcome defamatory comments made by errant shareholders. Defamation (sometimes known as calumny, vilification, libel, slander or traducement) is the oral or written communication of a false statement about another that unjustly harms their reputation and usually constitutes a tort or crime.[1] In several countries, including South Korea[2] and Sweden,[3] as well as the U.S. state of Louisiana,[4] communicating a true statement can also be considered defamation.Under common law, to constitute defamation, a claim must generally be false and must have been made to someone other than the person defamed.[5] Some common law jurisdictions also distinguish between spoken defamation, called slander, and defamation in other media such as printed words or images, called libel.[6] In the United States, false light laws protect against statements which are not technically false but are misleading.[7]Melania Trump filed a defamation action in the New York state commercial court and in the UK High Court against the Daily Mail over allegations that she previously worked as an escort. Ms. Trump claimed damages in the sum of $150m.The Mail later retracted the statement, published an apology and settled the case for $3m. The case was subject to much media attention, being covered by the BBC, the Guardian, Independent and ABC News.I touch on points for all business owners to consider when allowing their staff to speak on behalf of the Company, and when it may be better to stay away from social media.Listen to this and our oSupport the showSubscribe to my free newsletterhttps://www.theunnoticedentrepreneur.com/

To podcast or not to podcast? Stitchered up, and how to create PR in the spoken world.
Get Noticed! Send a text.Edison Research Infinite Dial 2020 released March 19th, 2020 suggests that there are over 1,000,000 podcast shows worldwide; this poses both an opportunity and a challenge for brands. How to get noticed in a medium which is plainly important but is crowded, and is demanding to create a consistent flow of content. As Stitcher CEO Erik Diehn said."The data we found reinforce our belief that the unique, intimate appeal of podcasting makes its fans the most loyal and passionate of any medium."Here I talk about the practicalities of podcasting, how many people are listening and where (hint - an Asian country leads the listening figures), and when is the best time to publish.I also track down the podcast series of well-known brands Sephora, GE, ZipRecruiter, Shopify and Umpqua Bank. Slack had one too, but that only published 29 episodes...pretty slack really. If you don't want to produce your own podcast, which is quite sensible really, then listen for the tips on how to take advantage of this medium without learning new software. If you do want to host a podcast, I can recommend BuzzSprout as the interface makes uploads simple, the embed players are attractive and syndication to the main podcast players is comprehensive and well explained. Their packages are also cost-effective, and Addie in customer support is a real gem and amazingly patient with my amateur hour questions. How to make a hygiene regime to bring your customers back, Trust Pilot and PR lessons from The Office.
Get Noticed! Send a text. The single biggest issue facing service based companies around the world is fear; the anxiety that consumers have of returning to shops, physiotherapists, dentists etc is that they won't be clean enough to keep them safe. And in the UK alone there are 70 thousand physiotherapists; so we need to find ways to get customers, clients and patients back.I propose a hygiene regime which is shared publicly, and share in this podcast how this can be done honestly and with practical advice.
