MMP16: How to have a stress free summer

In this episode I discuss summer time and how it can be pretty stressful for us moms. It’s so common for moms to think deep down that motherhood equals martyrhood. Ya, that never works out for us. It causes us to feel resentful and either check out or lose our sh!t with the people we love the most. I teach you my favorite tool so you can have a stress free summer. MMP15: Achievement and Success - How to support your kids in achieving THEIR dreams

In this episode, I talk about the pressure of final exams for kids in middle and high school...stream of consciousness style, i.e.“Randi Rambling” on my evening doggy walk. I bring up our achievement oriented culture while considering the need to possibly redefine the “successful” student in our changing world. Do we really think it’s the kids that excel at traditional education that will grow up to be the change agents we need to lead tomorrow?   I talk about thinking about the pressure we may accidentally put on our kids to live out our unpursued dreams. I share mistakes I’ve made and of course the best recovery method for all those EPIC parenting “fails”. When we handle those moments with the productive conversational method, i.e. with empathy, we end up even closer than if we’d handled it perfectly from the get go. Topics covered: The letter from a Singapore principal Our rapidly changing world and that our kids will create their own jobs Living vicariously through our kids when we’ve given up on our own dreams Accidentally becoming the bully in our child’s life because we are trying to prevent pain or suffering we’ve experienced ourselves Kids that are outta the box thinkers may just be the real leaders of tomorrow Recovering from a parenting “fail” through having a productive conversation Get my book! MMP14: A Conversation on All Things Motherhood with Gabriela Gerhart

In this episode, I interview Gabriela Gerhart of Motherhood Center in Houston. We have a rich conversation where we dive into the difficult transition into parenthood and the lack of support for moms in our traditional society and why I am so obsessed with Motherhood Center. Gabi is the REAL deal and runs a thriving heart centered business that nurtures thousands of mothers and families. Her story is rich and her early childhood roots from the small village where she grew up in the Czech Republic are woven throughout our conversation and into her business.  We discussed motherhood, business and bringing back “the village” mentality into raising kids in our modern world. Topics covered: Gabi’s definition of a doula Motherhood Center https://www.motherhoodcenter.com/ Breastfeeding Night nursing and night time infant care support Episode Intro or Guest Bio: Gabriela Gerhart is the Founder of The Motherhood Center. She established this haven for mothers in 2003, turning a lifelong dream into reality. She discovered her passion for babies and childcare early. She was only four years old when her sister was born, and she treasured her role as “little mommy”. Today Gabriela touches the lives of thousands of infants, parents and families through The Motherhood Center. Gabriela was born and raised in the small mountain village of Jablunkov, Czech Republic. She values her hometown’s warm and nurturing environment-an environment she ensures at The Motherhood Center. She received degrees in Pediatric Nursing and Physical Therapy. In 1999, Gabriela accepted a position in Houston to help an American couple care for their premature baby. While in Houston, she fell in love with the opportunities, her life, and the man who is now her husband, Gary Gerhart. After her initial position as an Au pair, Gabriela continued her education across Texas, becoming trained in Breastfeeding Education and Postpartum Doula. Gabriela quickly gained a reputation as a dependable and knowledgeable adviser, whose caring and calming spirit was especially soothing to new parents. More and more women used her as a resource for the care of their newborns. Gabriela became frustrated with how difficult it was for these women, who were already going through a particularly vulnerable time, to obtain reliable information. Gabriela recognized the overwhelming interest shown by expecting and new moms, to keep up with fast-changing medical information and technological possibilities. She realized they not only yearned for structured educational classes on modern methods, they also hoped for timeless wisdom on handling everyday childcare situations. With the needs of these mothers in mind, she created The Motherhood Center. Gabriela and The Motherhood Center have been featured by The Houston Chronicle, The Houston Business Journal, 002 Magazine, Vonyage magazine, Paper City, The River Oaks Examiner, KTRK ABC 13, KPRC Channel 2, KHOU Channel 11, CW 39 and FOX 26. She is committed to philanthropy and is involved with several Houston charities including Child Advocates, Children’s Assessment Center, American Heart Association, Children’s Museum, and Women’s Home, The Women's Fund , Crime Stoppers of Houston and many more.   Get my book! MMP13: How to talk to your kids to help prevent school shootings

Living in a world where gun violence has become a possibility in the average kid’s school day…parents want to know what we can do and how to keep our kids safe. In this episode, I’m having a conversation with Danielle from The Silver Lining Mamas private FB group about school shootings. We recorded this episode the day of the school shooting in Indiana which happened to take place 20 minutes from Danielle’s house. Danielle had reached out to me about what we can do as moms to contribute to the solution and how we can empower ourselves and our children to help create a safer America. Yes, most of us want stricter gun laws. Yes, we are scared and frankly, pissed that our kids are growing up with the reality that they aren’t even safe at school. Yes, many of us take to the soapboxes about these injustices and fight for reform. AND here is also something we can do in each and every one of our homes...we can change our conversations around the table and raise our kids to be part of the solution. Kindness counts. I came up with an easy way to impact our kids by infusing courage and empathy into our daily dinner conversations. MMP12: Lessons learned from Gary Vee’s mom - a woman I’ve never met

In this episode, I discuss a very successful business guy named Gary Vaynerchuk and his story. I think it’s important to find examples of the power we have as moms on shaping our kids and ultimately the future. If we truly understand the impact and power that an unconditionally loving, empathetic and connected mom has on her kids, we feel even more inspired to retrain our brains, master our minds and change the conversations in our homes. Topics covered: Gary Vaynerchuk Mrs. Vaynerchuk - Gary’s mom ADHD Intrinsic and extrinsic motivation Wine library Entrepreneurship and out of the box thinking Finding your superpower Our kids’ future jobs don’t even exist yet Raising our girls to know they are enough Raising our boys to be respectful good guys #me too #Garyvee Bill Cosby and why we are all heartbroken Moms shaping the next generation leaders and changing the world Men respecting women   Get my book! MMP09: The difficult convos on my recent family vacation

In this episode, you will hear the audio version of a video I filmed for my private parenting community on the last day of our Colorado vacation. I discuss some hard topics and difficult conversations we had that added tremendous value to our memory making moments. To sign up for my private community weekly, sign up here: Mastermind Parenting Report The bottom line is that parenting is hard. That old message about being a good parent and how it all SHOULD come naturally and instinctively ...are words spoken by Nazis and other deplorable people in my opinion. Anyone spreading that tall tale is wearing a mask in my opinion...unwilling to discuss real struggle, hard topics or practice vulnerability. Sure it’s instinctual to feed our little people and take care of their basic needs like picking up a crying baby or nursing a sickie back to health. And as we all know...there are many subjects that come up on our parenting journey that go way beyond basic needs. Because unlike our cave dwelling ancestors, we modern humans now live in an evolving world with technology, eating disorders, little league and other “non-basic” issues we gotta discuss with our peeps. We are good parents. We spend time learning and listening to podcasts so we can discuss the stuff our kids deal with in our evolving world. My vacation yoga teacher said, “Evolution is about growing. Stagnation is literally the opposite of evolution.” Humans are meant to continue to evolve. It’s sort of our job. Learning how to change the convos in your home is a big part of the job. It goes beyond basic needs. You want your kids to be able to talk to you about anything. THIS. My friend. Is. Evolution. Enjoy a little behind the scenes window into the real and raw convos in my family.   Topics covered: How the documentary, Screenagers, inspired us to go “screenless-ish” on this vacation and some issues were revealed once we were less plugged in. “Masks off” and how not pretty it is...especially at first A reference in my own life to the food issues in the show, This Is Us. A negative pattern that I was accidentally beginning to pass down to my daughter and the hard productive convo we had about it. Sibling rivalry and how individual parent engaged time with each kid can strengthen the sibling bond. Outdoor activities and a time to connect with your kids even if you don’t ski on a ski vacation (uhhhh that would be me!) The point of a family vacation and mixing up the routine. Making memories? FB posts? Uninterrupted time together Nature walks and dreaming together about living somewhere “cooler” Beautiful scenery is amazing AND it’s really the people you surround yourself with that create a rich life. People over environment Movies in bed Lots of little and a few bigger conversations Families that always travel with others...might be a buffer or a mask for spending true quality time together and cleaning some things up My husband calling me selfish   Get my book!
