This week we head to the GOLDEN FLEECE INN in YORK UK.This pub is like a beacon to ghost hunters who pass by it.It has all of the hallmarks of a haunted site with its doors being open and serving Ale since the 1500's.Wonky floors, tipping tables, squashy seating and an air of mystery makes a visit to this place something that you must do when you visit York. Although insane asylums were built with the intention of protecting, treating, and supporting people suffering from mental illness, in the late 1800’s terrible practices were used on the patients housed in such institutions, that, by today’s standards would be looked upon as simply barbaric.Many asylums used treatment practices such as restraints and chains, ice baths, electroshock therapy, and forced drugging to name a few.The Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum was specifically designed to change this, using what was called Moral Management which relied on kindness and compassion and making the patients environments comfortable and more homely.This was great, in theory, but not in practice as this asylum became overcrowded and understaffed creating a place of fear, neglect and the inability to give those within its walls the simplest of decent care.The Trans Allegheny Asylum is still one of the most haunted building in the USA.No wonder really – how could anyone survive such conditions.Even the sanest of individuals would eventually lose their mind there.Who are the souls that remain?What is it that they want or are they just simply lost.In this episode of the True Hauntings Podcast we take a look inside the most haunted Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.An important note before we start,The material we talk about is graphic and can be very emotional for some sensitive people. Notre-Dame Cathedral has witnessed more than 850 years of history, though the Cathedral of Reims saw more action from French royals.It was in Reims that most coronations took place though an exception was in 1431 when Henry VI, King of England, was crowned King of France at Notre-Dame.Mary Queen of Scots married Francis II in the Cathedral in 1558. If you were thinking about creating a movie situated in a remote, dusty, one horse town complete a really freaky story, you couldn’t do better than what led to the creation of the Amaragosa Opera House in Death Valley Junction, situated along the Nevada-California border in the USA.In 1967, Marta Becket, a former Broadway dancer, headed out West with her husband on a one-woman tour. In Death Valley, their aptly-named Covered Wagon travel trailer blew a tire.The nearest settlement was thirty miles away.They limped into Death Valley Junction, population 20. It looked like a ghost town.The square was dominated by an rundown hotel and the abandoned workers’ flats of a defunct borax mining company. But it had a gas station, thank goodness.With a hand crank telephone.In 1967.It also had a derelict community theater.While her husband Tom repaired the tire, Marta wandered over to the theater.She peered through a tiny hole in the back door.“As I peered through that tiny hole,” Marta Becket later wrote, “I had the distinct feeling that I was looking at the other half of my life. The building seemed to be saying, ‘Take me. Do something with me. Built on a hill with a panoramic view overlooking Baguio City, the Diplomat Hotel is considered one of the most haunted places in the Philippines.
