#60 WaterAidAmerica.org Interview with Cecile Shrestha: A Cause Worth Considering...
WaterAidAmerica.org Interview with Cecile Shrestha: A Cause Worth Considering... Today's show is special…and while all shows are special, we're at or near the end of the year, and the holidays are upon us. We've done great shows this year, and recently been given great opportunities with great guests. Consider this show to be along those same lines…a great guest, and a great subject. Albeit, a tough, challenging, and almost taboo subject, but important. Also important this time of year is to give, without expectation. Today's guest, Cecile Shrestha, is director of philanthropy at non profit WaterAid. WaterAid needs your attention, and they deserve it. WaterAid ranks highly on charitynavigator.org , and is one of the world's most efficient non profits, returning over 82% directly to programs, accountability and transparency, and their fine efforts. Consider, please a donation at this time of year to WaterAid. But, please consider something else, too. One person in three lacks access to adequate sanitation. The result is widespread death and disease – especially among children – and social marginalization. Women are particularly vulnerable. Poor sanitation exposes females to the risk of assault, and when schools cannot provide clean, safe toilets girls' attendance drops. Join me in welcoming to the show, Cecile Shrestha. Born and raised in Nepal, Cecile joined WaterAid in 2015, bringing over twelve years of experience in international development. At WaterAid, she manages key relationships with supporters, through events, outreach, and board development. Ms Shrestha has an M.A, and she is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UCSD. Cecile's work and her story are amazing. Please consider a donation to WaterAid (at wateraid.org) on behalf of safe clean water for drinking and cleaning. #58 New Movie "Passengers" NASA Exoplanets PSA
New Movie "Passengers" NASA Exoplanets PSA NASA & Sony Collaborate for New Film 'Passengers' to Space Station, & PSA Two interesting bits of news today, coming from NASA, I thought you'd enjoy. The first, which is very cool, is that astronauts and other crewmembers on the International Space Station will get to watch the new science fiction movie, "Passengers," while in orbit (you're listening to some of the theme music from "Passengers" now). Sony Pictures Entertainment announced today that it is working with NASA to send a digital version of the film to the orbiting laboratory. The movie centers on a massive spaceship carrying a group of humans on a 120-year-long journey to a distant planet, where they will make a new home. To survive the long trip, the passengers are placed in a hibernation state, but two people (Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence) wake up 90 years too early and are forced to cope with their new fate. Of course, to help the International Space Station survive their long trip, Sony, generously has sent a digital version of "Passengers" up for their enjoyment. And, the other cool news from sony and NASA is that their as part of their collaboration, Pratt and Lawrence recorded a short video, PSA, discussing the real-world search for habitable exoplanets located elsewhere in the universe. And, let's listen to a bit of that PSA from Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, what they have to say about their latest film, Passengers, what scientists believe about habitable planets, NASA's exploration for "new homes," and encouraging us to start our own stellar voyage by going to NASA.gov. Enjoy. Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.

#56 75th Anniv. of Pearl Harbor: Memorial at University of Arizona
75th Anniv. of Pearl Harbor: Memorial at University of Arizona Today, December 7, 2016, is an important day to all, an important day to the Greatest Generation, and we're going to do something a bit different with 2 "75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor" episodes. Our "memorial to memory" segments are inspiring and engaging. First up is journalist, Natalia V. Navarro. Natalia is a journalism student, in the accelerated Master's degree program at University of Arizona. I caught up with Natalia after reading her wonderful article on the new memorial created at the University of Arizona, in tribute to the USS Arizona, which was dedicated just this last Sunday. Natalia's excellent article, published in the Arizona Daily Star, and online at TucsonStar.com, offers an insider's glimpse into the new memorial, and proudly begins with the line: "There's a battleship on the University of Arizona Mall." I love that line, and enjoyed my conversation with Natalia. Welcome, Natalia V. Navarro to The Not Old Better Show. Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha. #55 'Loving' Movie Review, NOB with Gretchen Vogelzang
'Loving' Movie Review, Art Of Living Series Gretchen and I review the new movie, "Loving," from Focus Features, which celebrates the real-life courage and commitment of an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving, who married and then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown. Their civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court, which in 1967 reaffirmed the very foundation of the right to marry – and their love story has become an inspiration to couples ever since. Rated PG, and Gretchen and I give it 4 stars. Enjoy. Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.

#54 "Soundbreaking" Series Interview with Joshua Bennett, The Not Old Better Show
"Soundbreaking" Series Interview with Joshua Bennett Stories From The Cutting Edge of Recorded Music, from Music Today If you're watching the new series on PBS, "Soundbreaking" like we are in our house, you know this is something to behold. If not, well, either way, we've got a treat for you with today's guest. "Soundbreaking" is the brilliant, spanking new documentary from PBS in association with Sir George Martin, and is produced by Show Of Force. We're joined today via SKYPE with Show Of Force executive and one of "Soundbreaking's" producers, Joshua Bennett. If you're watching Soundbreaking, which is airing currently on PBS (check your local listings), you'll agree, it is well worth it. There is something to be said for hearing that heavenly chorus of voices as the song "God Only Knows," by the Beach Boys, or Neil Young's voice on "Don't Let it Bring You Down," and Amy Winehouse, Sly Stone, Bonnie Raitt, Little Richard, Fleetwood Mac, the Staples Singers, or any of the other 160 musicians, and other music professionals, all of whom extol the music recording innovation tracing a sonic revolution. The rare footage, the stories the artist's tell, the music, and the never before seen creative process push along Soundbreaking's story telling, emphasizing music's ability to carry us back and forward at the same moment. Trust me when I tell you, you'll never hear these songs the same way again! Check PBS for the series, and each "Soundbreaking" episode will be made available for next-day digital purchase via multiple platforms including iTunes, Amazon Video, Vudu, Google Play, Microsoft Movies & TV and Sony Interactive Entertainment. The series will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, November 29. Enjoy! Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha. #53 Howard Jones, Keyboardist Extraordinaire Interview
Howard Jones, Keyboardist Extraordinaire Interview Howard Jones is currently touring and will be in Leesburg, VA Nov 28, at the Tally Ho Theater. Tickets and information HERE. We caught up with Howard recently and talked ELP, his gear, his music and what's next for the pioneer keyboard artist. It was in 1983 that Howard Jones released his first single "New Song" in the UK. The expectation was that it might sell a few thousand copies and introduce his fresh new music to an unsuspecting world. The reality was quite different. The single steadily climbed the UK chart to peak at No. 3. Then came the second single "What Is Love?" which reached No. 2, and then Things Can Only Get Better", and the classic "No One Is To Blame", which reached No. 1 in the U.S. singles chart. Howard Jones, of course, is well-known for these and a series of colossal hit albums and 15 top-40 hit singles throughout the '80s and '90s. The British musician's work also played a pioneering role in the introduction and acceptance of synthesizers and sequencers in pop and rock recordings and performances. It would be easy for Jones to rest on his laurels and rely solely on performing his hits. However, that's simply not an option for him. Still active, still engaged, highly creative, Howard Jones will be in Leesburg, VA Nov 28, at the Tally Ho Theater. Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha. #51 Veterans Day Appreciation Show, Music, Marines & Air Force
Veterans Day Appreciation Show, Music, Marines & Air Force What does Veterans Day mean to me, a son and an uncle of 2 family members in the military? Veterans Day - a time to pay tribute and honor those who serve, and those who've served, and are still with us. Remember, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day are different. Memorial Day is to reflect and remember those who lost lives in service to their country. Confusing the two or combining the two diminishes the importance of both. As we express our appreciation on Veterans Day, many will find ways to celebrate and remember the sacrifices made by those in uniform in a manner that's personal. A Friend, Relative, or Neighbor who served comes to mind as we take a moment to reflect on what that person did to serve our Nation. There's actually a long line of those who served within my family tree and maybe yours too! Veterans Day means that we pause to remember those who came before us as well as those currently in uniform. Our rich history preserved by the stories they tell, which can be passed on from generation to generation. Many this week commented to me directly, or via social media their almost "shocked" reaction to our US presidential election. This veterans day, I want to thank all those who've served, and say, as many others have, how grateful I am for our hard fought freedoms, that include the democracy we cherish, and to have a chance to vote, good bad or indifferent. Today, I honor my father, Roger Vogelzang, who was an United State Air Force Captain, and a USAF physician, during the Korean Conflict, some would call war, but which ended in a cease fire. My nephew, Wyatt Vogelzang is currently serving in the US Marine Corp. To all Veterans – past, present, and future – I salute you, and thank you for your service.
