#71 The Meddler Movie Review
The Meddler Movie Review The Not Old Better Show, Movies for Adults I watched the movie, "The Meddler" over the holiday and have to tell you this 2016 film, released quietly, now out everywhere online for rent, is wonderful. It is a poignant indie movie written by Lorene Scafaria, and Susan Sarandon plays Marnie, a widow still grieving the loss of her husband. He left his spouse with enough money so she'd never have to worry about much, if anything, financially, again, and so she packed up and moved to Los Angeles, to be close to her daughter. Pathologically close. A great film for family, mom and daughter, son and mom, no sex scenes, and only one small car crash…just great characters and great acting. Enjoy. #70 Hilarious World of Depression Interview with John Moe
Hilarious World of Depression Interview with John Moe The Not Old Better Show, Interview Series Certainly, one of the things I love about hosting this show is the sharing I get to do with all of you. Today's show falls in that category: something really great I've found, that I get to share with you, and with a twist: my hope is that you'll then share with others. I say that, request it, actually, because of the help this can offer. Our guest today is John Moe. John is host of the podcast: The Hilarious World of Depression. Before you judge a book by its cover, wait until you hear more than just the title of the show. And, remember, this is entertaining, but it's important stuff, so hang in… John's show is a show about clinical depression... with laughs. The Hilarious World of Depression is a podcast series of frank, moving, and, yes, funny conversations with top comedians who have dealt with this disease, hosted by our guest today, veteran humorist, comedy writer, former actor, and self described "comedy nerd," public radio host John Moe. John's approach is to begin a conversation about depression around helping us as audienice, family members, teachers, and those of us who suffer from depression to learn how others have dealt with depression and managed to laugh along the way. I say, "laugh," emphasize the title of "Hilarious World of Depression," spotlight on John's comedy writing because John's show looks at links between depression and comedy through conversations with nationally recognized comedians who share their struggles with mental illness of depression. We'll introduce John in just a second, but one final mention. It also bears noting that the show has a well respected health care partner. John likes to say, "The Hilarious World of Depression" is not medical treatment and should not be seen as a substitute for therapy or medication," but the MakeItOk.org campaign, and the sponsor, Health Partners, are just that. "Show and Sponsor" remain fully autonomous, and "show and sponsor" are very separate, but you'll hear during the interview, mention of a "depression pledge" available at MakeItOk.org. If you get a chance, sign the pledge. This is a personal show for me, and I requested right up front that you consider sharing this with others. I hope you do. But, importantly, I also hope it's is a chance to gain some insight, be entertained, have a few laughs, and realize that people with depression are not alone and that together, we can all feel a bit better. Enjoy today's show. Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.

#69 Ultra Runner, Mark Cliggett, Pt. 1, Interview
Ultra Runner, Mark Cliggett, Pt. 1, Interview Fitness Friday, Interview Series Part 1, of 2. In this, first of 2 parts interview, we sit down with Mark Cliggett as he talks about what UltraRunning is, and isn't. For one thing, in the sport of Ultra Running, cutting corners doesn't produce results, and while "results," per se, are not always the goal, anything less than full commitment and devotion, really, to this sport, can lead to injury and, well, worse. This is no exaggeration. And, Mark Cliggett will tell us all about his training regimen, the rigor, why he competes, what we in The Not Old Better audience can do to sort through some of the decisions to be made before taking on something like this sport, including volunteering and where to do it. Mark's excellent blog, pointlenana.wordpress.com which we'll link to from The Not Old Better post is a very detailed "journal" of events, Mark's thoughts and planning, including some beautiful video and photography, which, courtesy of photographer, Scott Rokis, we'll also add to the site. Join me, live via SKYPE, in welcoming to The Not Old Better Show, Mark Cliggett. Enjoy. Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha. #66 "Hidden Figures" Movie Review
"Hidden Figures" Movie Review The Not Old Better Show - Movies For Adults series I saw Hidden Figures last night here in Washington, DC. I'll tell you right up front, this is a superb film, excellent really, and judging from the audience reaction, those in the theater with me, we all agreed: lots of applause throughout, lots of audible gasps at parts, and lots of talent in the cast and production. Most know the story by know, Hidden Figures tells a true story of a group of African-American women who worked at NASA to help launch several of NASA's preeminent programs like Mercury Atlas, John Glenn's Friendship 7, and other successful space missions. At one point during the film, John Glenn says he only wants "numbers from Johnson," and I thought how heroic Johnson, and the rest of the women are, and how important it is to recognize their contribution. A wonderful family film, and perfect timing for the holidays, this is a story that needed to be told, and it's told in a triumphant manner. Go see Hidden Figures, I think you'll agree with me and the audience last night, it is fantastic! Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha. #64 "Passengers" Real Science. Interview with Dr. John Bradford
"Passengers" Real Science. Interview with Dr. John Bradford Art Of Living Interview Series The movie "Passengers" is about the very real possibility of traveling to a new home around another star, or known as an exoplanet. It's fascinating to discover the real science behind that – to see how astronomers are discovering exoplanets and and finding ways that what we imagine could someday become a reality." Today's guest is Dr. John Bradford, and he's doing just that...Dr. Bradford's firm, "Spaceworks," based in Atlanta, Georgia, is an engineering firm focused on future space exploration technologies, and working on the film 'Passengers' about the movie's depiction of exoplanets and human hibernation relate to current research and projects, and informing us of the realities behind some of the movie's themes, and making this a reality. This is a wonderful movie, based on "hard science," and exactly what we should be seeing. My congratulations to cast, crew, SONY, NASA, and Spaceworks, for an excellent film. Enjoy. #63 'Passengers' Movie, Review & Interview with Chris Pratt & Jennifer Lawrence
'Passengers' Movie, Review & Interview with Chris Pratt & Jennifer Lawrence Art Of Living Movie Review & Interview Series Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt star in an exciting action-thriller about two passengers who are on a 120-year journey to another planet when their hibernation pods wake them 90 years too early. Over the last few days, we've talked to "Passenger's" cast, Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, as well as Dr John Bradford (coming up...) Pratt and Lawrence characters, Jim and Aurora, who are forced to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction as the ship teeters on the brink of collapse, with the lives of thousands of passengers in jeopardy. I have to tell you, I loved the movie. Chris Pratt is excellent as the action star that he's become and Jennifer Lawrence is a star. She is lovely, glamorous, yet down to earth and I'll bet she has a great sense of humor as a person. As the movie unfolds, and Lawrence, in character as Aurora, comes to life, she surprised me and I could see the her sense of soul, rage, and awe. The setting of the spaceship is fantastic and you have to see this behemoth of a ship to truly get the drama of this thing, but the lighting, music, you're listening to some of it here, the CGI which is seamless and doesn't overwhelm, at all. BTW, the robot vacuum cleaners and Michael Sheen's character, Arthur, the bartending android, are fantastic. Again, Sheen, as Arthur must be seen: his smiling barkeep routine, slightly ironic, slightly mischievous, and a bit dirty minded is brilliant. Personally, I love the "hard science" aspect of how the induced sleep is made to take over, and as I say, we'll be talking to Dr John Bradford later today about the development of this technology, it's role in the film and use in our world today. Like the movie, The Martian, and book of same name by Andy Weir, this element of what NASA research does, explaining the science through the use of it in Hollywood is welcome by me, and I love it, and I think you will, too. Enjoy. Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.

#62 Career Pivot, Author, CEO, Marc Miller Interview
Career Pivot, Author, CEO, Marc Miller Interview Founder, leader, CEO, author of CareerPivot, Marc Miller's career has spanned 30+ years at IBM, thriving tech startups, a stint as a high school math teacher, a gig raising funds for the Jewish Community Center and, a near fatal bicycle accident that changed his perspective forever. Throughout Marc's wandering the proverbial career desert, often repeating the same mistakes over and over, Marc learned his most crucial lesson: Most people don't really know what makes them happy at their core, what fulfills them. They pursue money, status, a skill set, all of which provide some level of satisfaction, but not contentment. People wind up feeling frustrated and trapped. Others have figured out what they need, but don't know how to chart a course to get there. Marc founded CareerPivot.com to help the baby boomer generation create successful and fulfilling professional lives. Marc's books, his workshops, his speaking, resources, podcasts, and Marc's stated strategy is to work with those of us "in the 2d half of life," who want to change. Join us as Marc Miller answers some excellent year end questions: Does the idea of career change overwhelm you? Do you feel trapped in your career? Do you fear it's too late to make change? #61 'Collateral Beauty' Interview Helen Mirren & Will Smith
'Collateral Beauty' Movie Review & Interview Helen Mirren & Will Smith I just saw the new movie 'Collateral Beauty.' This movie is a fine, beautiful, caring, sweet, dramatic, yet comedic at times film that I wouldn't be surprised to see get award recognition in the coming weeks. Will Smith and the entire cast, of Helen Mirren, Edward Norton, Keira Knightly, Michael Pena, Naomie Harris (who won the Hollywood Film Award, Best Breakout Performance for her role in Collateral Beauty), Jacob Latimore, and Kate Winslet play their roles to perfection and all of them bring an interesting and relatable perspective to the film's narrative. While the ending is heartwarming, the journey to get there is deep, meaningful, rocky at times (btw, just like life) so don't expect a happy go lucky film (again, just like life). You may be aware of the plot, and if not, Will Smith plays Howard Inlet, a grieving and troubled New York advertising executive who's forced to come to terms with a terrible tragedy. Howard begins writing letters to Love, to Time, and to Death as part of a therapeutic attempt to find meaning in the shadow of his own depression – only to find out that these perennial forces of nature are (apparently) willing to take the form of physical bodies and they speak with him directly. Howard's friends, co-workers and colleagues, learn that he's been writing these letters to the abstract themes like death, love, and time. The last thing Howard expects is to come face to face with his cosmic pen pals, but with their help and his friends' support, maybe he can finally work through his grief. There is no easy way to tackle death in cinema and if you are anything like Will Smith's character, you will have a difficult time dealing with the subject matter of losing someone close to you. What I can say is that Collateral Beauty is one of the better films at taking a difficult topic and making it into an enjoyable film without losing its message to cheesy clichés. The film, the cast, the gorgeous production all deliver on the promise of first rate film drama, moviegoers are in for a heart-tugging treat come Christmas. Just a word of caution, if you've watched any of the trailers, you've likely been choked up, imagine what the whole film might do. See it…you'll love it!
