#50 The Pulse of Modern Medicine: Interview with NIH's Dr Anthony Fauci

The Pulse of Modern Medicine: Interview with NIH's Dr Anthony Fauci As part of our Smithsonian Associates Art of Living series, we have the first in our "Pulse of Modern Medicine: Insights from NIH Experts," programs. This is a five part program designed to provide a unique glimpse into the efforts of the NIH. We'll learn from NIH scientific and medical experts about what is currently "hot" in biomedical research, the science behind it, and most importantly, what it means to our health, the medical treatment we receive, today and in the future. We're joined today by Dr Anthony Fauci. While many in our Not Old Better Show audience will know Dr Fauci, many Americans may never have heard of him, but his work affects tens of millions of people. Dr Fauci is considered the United States top doctor when it comes to infectious diseases. He leads the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases team at the United States National Institutes of Health. There, Dr Fauci and his team investigate emerging diseases like Zika and Ebola. And, Dr Fauci also leads research into diseases HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and allergies. Dr. Fauci likes talking about science to the general public in a way they can understand, and in a way they can understand why it is important to support it. #49 Dr Arthur Lupia: Breaking Down the Election

Dr Arthur Lupia: Breaking Down, and "Unpacking" the 2016 Election, The Morning After... The Not Old Better Show, Art Of Living Series Welcome to the show, please, Dr Arthur Lupia. Dr Lupia has been with us previously, and was a big hit with audience, all over the globe. Dr Lupia has written an important book, titled: Un-Informed: Why People Seem to Know so Little about Politics, and What We Can Do About It? As we record this interview today with Dr Arthur Lupia, the stock market is bouncing back, but was down. Pres. Obama, who to some, was going to be the agent of change to restore hope in America, is being replaced by Pres. Elect Donald Trump, who's campaign material emphasized "Make America Great Again." Objectively, it's important to understand some of this, what's behind some of the results, what we can learn, and even consider is this a triumph of democracy, or the end of it? Dr Arthur Lupia will help us understand some of that today… Enjoy. Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.

#48 Taraji P. Henson, Around The Way Girl, NOB Interview

Taraji P. Henson, Actor/Author, "Around The Way Girl," Interview & Review The Smithsonian Associates Art Of Living Series As part of our Smithsonian Associates, Art Of Living series, I had the opportunity to attend actress, author Taraji P. Henson's event, live at the Smithsonian's Baird Auditorium, in Washington, DC, Henson's home town. As part of the program, all audience were given Taraji Henson's new book, a memoir, "Around The Way Girl." I had a chance to speak to Taraji P. Henson for a few minutes just prior to the event when she described the book, her successful life in Hollywood , family, spirituality, and her sense of life as Cookie Lyon, the outrageous, wonderful, matriarch of the ambitious, dysfunctional family and music dynasty real person Henson plays on the hit TV series, "Empire," a role that's made her famous: I asked Taraji Henson about the title of her book, and what that means to her. Well the book is excellent, and it was great to meet Taraji Henson. Thanks to Smithsonian Associates. For more great programs from Smithsonian Associate, please click HERE. #47 Immersive Virtual Reality & Suicide Prevention Pt. 2

Immersive Virtual Reality & Suicide Prevention, Part 2 This is Part 2 of our show about immersive virtual reality and suicide prevention. My guests today on The Not Old Better Show are Dusty Wright, and he's joined in his home studio via Skype, with colleagues, Director, Stephanie Riggs and Producer, Serena Belsby. Please note the links to everyone's details, but it is an august group. Talented and respected. Join us for a great show, tour de force, but, I must tell you, right at the outset, while this project is a powerful, brilliant application of VR, it is also the result of a tragic suicide. One the one hand, a thoughtful, inspired, and intelligent deployment of the virtual reality technology. And, on the other hand, a brutal, difficult subject which galvanized this team and their solution. This is a personal subject for me and my family, as well as many others. It's important to discuss this, as hard as it may be. As reminder, please check out The Not Old Better web site where you'll find links to where you can go check out all the material, and how best to contribute and get involved. You can easily go directly to Sunchaser Entertainment sunchaserent.com and click "Donate." Donations are tax deductible. #45 Special Edition: Rob Kapilow, Pre Show Interview...

Special Edition: Rob Kapilow, Pre Show Interview... Smithsonian Associates Art Of Living Series, NOB For this special edition, now our second conversation with "What Makes It Great," composer, conductor, lecturer, music expert, Rob Kapilow, I caught up with him just before he went onstage at the Baird Auditorium, where he unlocked the secrets of master songwriter Harold Arlen. This interview is a companion to our recent conversation with Rob, when we discussed the almost anonymous Arlen, whose vast songbook consists of more than 400 tunes such as Get Happy, Last Night When We Were Young, Stormy Weather, That Old Black Magic, and Over the Rainbow, which was voted the No. One song of the 20th century by the Recording Industry Association of America and the National Endowment for the Arts. The evening featured singers Michael Winther and Nikki Renee Daniels, both with steller voices, Broadway credits, and perfectly matched for the "Kapilow Versions," of the music they sing, while Rob plays. For more than a decade, Kapilow has brought the joys and wonder of music to audiences of all ages and backgrounds with his What Makes It Great? presentations, which dissect and examine the mysteries of music in terms everyone can grasp and appreciate. Part One is an entertaining discussion displaying Kapilow's astounding gift for observation and his animated teaching style. Part Two features performances of the composition, and audience sing-alongs. The evening concludes with Part Three, a spirited question-and-answer on the work. We caught up with Rob to ask him a few questions, listen to a bit of pre show rehearsal music, and before the audience and it was a treat. Enjoy. #43 House Of Cards DC Walking Tour

House of Cards Walking Tour of DC, Interview with Kathleen Bashian Frank Underwood's Washington... As part of our Smithsonian Associates, Art of Living series, our guest today on The Not Old Better Show is House of Cards Walking Tour expert, guide, and professor, Dr Kathleen Bashian. You've seen that flashing opening sequence of House of Cards season after season, and we all know that theme music (here, generously supplied by musician Jesse Ahmann, an excellent cellist, and online at jesseahmann.net). But, for those of us who binge on the Netflix program, and obsess over each episode and detail, we can walk the House of Cards Washington locations, on an excellent walking tour, lead by DC based guide, and House of Cards expert, Kathleen Bashian. I had the pleasure of joining local historian Dr. Kathleen Bashian (web site HERE) for a 2 mile walking tour that covers a wide variety of Washington locations against which the Underwoods' scheming, affairs of state, and affairs of a different kind play out. Along the way, she offers insights into the history and background of the locations in House of Cards to better appreciate some of the show's memorable moments, and how their astute selection enhances the impact of its storylines and characters. Next tour is Nov 5. Meet at the fountain on the West Front of Capitol (the location where presidential inaugurations take place); the tour concludes at Hill Country Barbeque Market. The tour includes lunch. Enjoy! Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.

#42 HeartScribe: 16 Year Old App Dev. Rohan Taneja, Interview

HeartScribe: 16 Year Old App Dev. Rohan Taneja, Interview The internet can be intimidating for those not used to it, and when it comes to healthcare, while many potential advantages are available using the newest technology, there are still obstacles. Here on The Not Old Better Show we've talked a lot about the "age gap" that exists in the technology industry. The fact that most tech workers are young people, and that technology often appears to be designed for young people. And, we've established, and data supports this, that by 2030, approximately 20% of people in the US with be over 65. Maybe 20% doesn't sound like a lot to you. Well, it happens to be about the same number of people in the US who own an iPhone today. Which of these two groups do you think Silicon Valley spends more time thinking about? This seems unfortunate when you consider all of the things technology has to offer those of us 55+ in age. Thankfully, some of this, appears to be changing, and my guest today on The Not Old Better Show has created a smart, mobile tool to help gather and save our vital healthcare information, and do so simply and safely. "When I first started developing the app I went to a few senior centers and I realized the buttons were not big enough; it was like every other app out there. Most of the other apps are really hard for people who are over 60 or over 70 to use, but this but this app is for heart failure patients, who are usually over 60. That was when I realized the app needed to be a lot more catered towards older people, so I made the buttons bigger I made everything a lot simpler. I took out some features that made it a bit too complex and were not really necessary. I had to make it really easy to use for the older population who have heart failure and other chronic conditions," says Rohan Taneja, 16, developer of the HeartScribe app. More information HERE, and you can find the app at Google Play (only, for the time being...iOS coming soon). Enjoy...BTW, Rohan encourages feedback, so please provide any directly HERE. Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha.
