In this podcast, I wanted to take some time out from interviewing and go over what I've learned from The University of Life as a Podcast to date. The University of Life & Aoife Nic Canna
Meet Aoife, 27 years Dj'n and still rocking sets. Following my chat together with Sinead of H&G Creations where we looked in to the events business and the industry as a whole I wanted to dive that bit deeper in to the scene and from a different perspective. Aoife Nic Canna is someone who has been partying and passionately involved in events, clubbing and music for almost thirty years. She's lived through it, studied it and with that, has such a wealth of insight and knowledge to share. I first wanted to explore how someone can still stay relevant after so long in such a fast paced scene. I then wanted to hear her perspective on how parties, dancing and music has evolved and where she feels, given her perspective it'll go. We talked all about her journey in the industry and as one of the first female djs in her space and the challenges she encountered along the way. Enjoy and please do let me know your feedback either via instagram or my site. The University of Life & Sarah Lucey
Meet Sarah Lucey, the Irish butcher's daughter who is now the nightclub queen of the US and entertaining the world’s biggest A-list celebrities every week. She is "mad driven" as she puts it and shares a beautiful message of self belief telling me that "if you can’t take yourself seriously, nobody else will". We talked about her journey to where she is now and how she challenges and drives herself over and over. She arrived in Miami with only a weeks accommodation and cash, that was the space she gave herself to make things happen. Incredible. She shared her tips for others following in her footsteps, how to get the right opportunities and manage them once they're in front of you and talked about the human side of the work she does, how to read people and relate. Sarah is a really inspiring person with such a beautiful message which I'm delighted to share. Enjoy and please do let me know your feedback either via instagram or my site. The University of Life & Joe Doyle
Joe Doyle is a property investor and business mentor to the construction sector. He's also one hell of a character online, on social media and in his advertisements which have had him written up and ripped apart in media. There's no getting the better of him though, he's made it all work well for him. Few people could play with attention better than him, he's up there with the best. He started his career as a bricklayer, he learned his trade, went on one hell of a journey full of ups and downs and now having learned from his experiences, he shares his learnings very openly to help others following in similar footsteps. He currently has a property portfolio valued at over 11 million euro and has over 200 clients in his mentorship program. Business is booming and with that I wanted to jump into his world, learn more about him and his journey to where he is now, his industry and anything else he was open to sharing. For anyone interested in the construction and property space, you'll really appreciate this. Also for anyone dealing with anyone in the constructions space, builders, etc. he shares some really simple tips that could save you considerably. I'm delighted to share this piece with you. The University of Life & Anthony Flynn
Anthony Flynn is the founder of Inner City Helping Homeless which he set up in 2013. If you aren't familiar with them, check them out. They're an independent, non government funded and predominantly volunteer based organisation that are on the front line of tackling homelessness here in Dublin. Anthony is also a Dublin City Councillor. He serves on multiple boards including the Community Awareness of Drugs, Dominick Street Regeneration, the Dublin City Council Housing Special Policy Committee alongside the Joint Policing Committee for Dublin City. Anthony is a real champion in this space, tacking jobs and truths that many of us don't know and others would rather we don't. Online and over and over I've seen him clash with the media and govt highlighting these difficult issues that otherwise would have gone unseen and un addressed.I wanted to meet with him and learn more about what's really going on, and what I could do even at a small level to make a difference. I wanted to know too why homelessness is still an issue despite millions being poured in to address the space. This interview for me was eye opening and fascinating. I'm delighted to share this piece with you.
