As a former Marine, and combat veteran from Operation Iraqi Freedom, Mark was called to use his skill to volunteer to offer humanitarian aid where needed. The initial mission, even before the Overwatch Foundation was formed, occurred when Hurricane Ida hit Louisiana in late 2021. Then Mark and the team mobilized to assist with the Afghan refugees. This work planted the seed for a structured organization that could be called upon regularly to respond in times of natural disasters or humanitarian crises.The Overwatch Foundation was officially established when Mark Turner found himself being driven to help once more. This time the call was an international mission to Ukraine. Mark's good friend and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu student Yuri is a native of the now war torn country. A couple of days after the Russian invasion began in early 2022, Yuri was deeply concerned for his family back home. Yuri shared the news that he would be returning to Ukraine to ensure the safety of his family. Within a matter of hours, Mark was accompanied by another highly trained military veteran and they were on an airplane headed to Ukraine. The mission was not only to accompany his good friend home safely, but also to provide humanitarian efforts where they could. After multiple trips to Ukraine using teams of different special operations veterans the team then mobilized to assist in relief efforts of Hurricane Ian in 2022. Mark understands first-hand the everyday challenges that U.S Veterans in our country face. Through his experience, Mark decided to combine his passion of helping people and his love for his fellow U.S Military Veterans by creating a non-profit that would serve a dual purpose.

In this episode we discuss Adaptogenic herbs and their benefits. The focus of this episode is on: Ashwagandha, Rhodiola and Ginseng.Ashwagandha is a popular adaptogenic herb that has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. It is believed to help the body adapt to stress, improve cognitive function, and boost immunity. Some studies have also shown that ashwagandha may have anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects.Rhodiola is an adaptogenic herb that is native to the cold, mountainous regions of Europe and Asia. It has traditionally been used to increase physical and mental endurance, reduce fatigue, and improve mood. Some research suggests that rhodiola may also have anti-anxiety and antidepressant effects.Ginseng is another well-known adaptogenic herb that has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. It is believed to help the body adapt to stress, improve cognitive function, and boost immunity. Some studies have also shown that ginseng may have anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects, and may be useful in the management of diabetes. #49 After Dark - The Story of Jeff Nichols: Inside The Mind of A Navy SEAL
Welcome back to the Iron Sights Podcast! In this episode, I sat down with Jeff Nichols, former Navy SEAL and founder of Performance First. Nichols has been a strength coach for over 20 years working with athletes of all ages in amateur and professional athletics. Jeff is certified through the NSCA as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Facilitator both with distinction. Jeff began his career as a graduate assistant at Troy University under Richard Schaughnessy CSCS*D and later as an assistant managing 14 Varsity sports. After earning a double major in Kinesiology and Chemistry in 2002, Jeff joined the navy and spent eleven years as a Navy SEAL. Aside from serving as a SEAL while on active duty, he also worked at a Navel Special Warfare command as the active duty Department Head within the Human Performance Department. Jeff oversaw product development, product assessment, program assessment, and operator delegate within Special Operations Command (SOCOM) for Human Performance.After honorable discharge from Naval service Jeff became the Co-Founder and Co-Owner of Virginia High Performance LLC in Virginia Beach. His book, Hidden Wars shares detailed accounts of his first hand experiences battling Mexican Drug Cartels in the Santa Clara foothills. Nores is also a highly trained endurance athlete, Iron Man finisher and all around badass. In this episode, I sat down with John Humpton who owns Black Flag Armory in Medford Oregon. I reached out to John to discuss measure 114 and bring insight to the 2A community and how quickly gun laws could change in your state. We discuss the impact of measure 114 and how it will affect citizens if passed. John describes the measure as “intentionally deceptive” and after listening you’ll know exactly why. Although the measure advertises “required background checks” to voters there are a few things that are included on the backend: limited magazine sizes & specialised training that is controlled by the state! This would essentially eliminate the 2nd amendment right we all have - obviously this is very problematic. Oh and by the way… the training doesn’t EXIST and there are currently no qualified instructors in the state of Oregon.
