The Self-Pour Movement: How and Why it Came to Be
Table Tap introduced the concept of self-pour draft beverages to the United States back in 2006. Not only have we helped pioneer approvals for self-pour across almost all 50 states, but we have also been a driving force in the growth and prevalence of self-pour within taprooms, breweries, bars, and many other types of venues.
In this presentation, we look forward to discussing what factors have led to the proliferation of self-pour systems within the US. One huge contributor has been the surge in popularity of craft beers over the past decade and the more recent surge in popularity of “non-beer” draft options. Another huge contributor has been the COVID pandemic and how that has shifted customer behavior and their desired customer experience.
We recognize that some people have strong opinions on self-pour systems. In this presentation, we will be debunking some of the common misconceptions around a self-pour model. These misconceptions are related to the cleanliness of self-pour systems, the cost of self-pour systems, the benefits of self-pour systems, the features and versatility of self-pour systems, and the impact self-pour has on a venue’s labor and the customer experience. We look forward to educating the group on each of these points!
Table Tap is the first company worldwide to market and sell self-service draft beer technology. Responsible for the launch and proliferation of the Pour Your Own movement in the United States and its “approval” by alcohol authorities in almost all 50 states. Our goal is to innovate and automate taproom operations to improve the bottom line while simultaneously providing the most interactive and engaging customer experience so your patrons come back time and time again.
Table Tap provides solutions for breweries and taprooms across the country. In addition to our flagship WallTender and TableTender self-pour technology, Table Tap also offers draft systems and its own in-house POS system to provide operators with the most turnkey solution on the market. Table Tap is driven by innovation and continues to use the most up-to-date technology within the industry. Cheers, and always remember to #PourYourOwnBeer.

“This Ain’t No $#!@* Applebee’s” - One Well Brewing’s Brand Refresh
The Robot House Team, in Oklahoma City, have just completed the One Well Brewing, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, brand refresh.
About a year ago, One Well approached the Robot House Team after meeting in-person at CBP Connects: Milwaukee, in June 2023, looking to do a massive brand overhaul. Due to usage rights end-terms with a previous designer and a bit of a Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic, One Well was needing to redesign their core labels, taproom, merchandise, website and everything else their current brand touched. As a family-friendly taproom with a restaurant and arcade, they were looking to mature the look without totally alienating the consumer base with a brand new style.
In November of 2023, the Robot House Team visited the One Well Taproom for “product testing” and to get a feel for the overall environment. We spent several hours in their taproom, eating the best fried cauliflower, losing in foosball and darts, and playing each of the 50+ pinball machines in the One Well arcade.
One Well was the first client to experience the reinvented Robot House process as part of our own internal, now-launched rebrand. We’d like to walk through what our process looks like and highlight each step as it pertained to One Well and where we landed with the entire refresh.
Brett Grimes and Jennings Hammack represent 40% of Robot House, an Oklahoma City-based five-person team of creative thinkers, dreamers and doers who craft emotional brand stories with fresh, cool, award-winning design in collaboration with clients around the country. Specializing in brand development, packaging design and all things creative, the Robots are on a mission to find passionate people eager to build and explore a brave new world for their craft beer brand. Brett is an agency parter and serves as the Creative Director. Jennings serves as the Creative Strategist.
Chris O'Neill is the owner, founder, and wizard of One Well Brewing. Alongside Chris, is Andrew McLean, One Well Brewing's Marketing Director. One Well Brewing is a one-of-a-kind family-friendly craft brewery in South Kalamazoo, with a taphouse, vegan-friendly restaurant and 50+ pinball machine arcade. With a "high fives over handshakes" philosophy, you're a friend from the moment you walk in the door.

Book Release - Handcrafted Careers: Working the Artisan Economy of Craft Beer
Unpacks the problems and privileges of pursuing a career of passion by exploring work inside craft breweries.
As workers attempt new modes of employment in the era of the Great Resignation, they face a labor landscape that is increasingly uncertain and stubbornly unequal. With Handcrafted Careers, sociologist Eli Revelle Yano Wilson dives headfirst into the everyday lives of workers in the craft beer industry to address key questions facing American workers today: about what makes a good career, who gets to have one, and how careers progress without established models.
Wilson argues that what ends up contributing to divergent career paths in craft beer is a complex interplay of social connections, personal tastes, and cultural ideas, as well as exclusionary industry structures. The culture of work in craft beer is based around “bearded white guy” ideals that are gendered and racialized in ways that limit the advancement of women and people of color. A fresh perspective on niche industries, Handcrafted Careers offers sharp insights into how people navigate worlds of work that promote ideas of authenticity and passion-filled careers even amid instability.
Eli Revelle Yano Wilson is an associate professor of sociology at The University of New Mexico. His research explores how work, race, and culture intersect in today’s changing economy. A former craft beer industry worker and Certified Cicerone, Dr. Wilson is the author of three books, most recently Handcrafted Careers: Working the Artisan Economy of Craft Beer.
