207 Sex Education with Liz Kessler

The state of sex education in our country is abysmal! In many places the only thing taught is abstinence, and in a majority of states, sex ed doesn't even need to be medically accurate! How ridiculous is that?!? Better sex ed has a huge range of benefits, from a reduction in unwanted pregnancies to lower rates of STI's to improved quality of health overall. In today's oh-so-juicy episode, sexuality health educator Liz Kessler joins us to discuss: Pleasure as an indication of flourishing Female genital erasure Pornography The importance of teaching and using proper terms for our body parts Creating a self-pleasure practice The anatomy of the clitoris What most women need (and don't need!) to orgasm The importance of a healthy pelvic floor Female genital erasure About Liz Kessler Liz Kessler is a sexuality health educator and coach, a clinical sexologist, and a certified positive psychology practitioner providing talk -based education and coaching on sexuality-related concerns. Liz Kessler views her work as a sexuality educator and sex coach as part of a movement she calls intimate justice. Liz works with people to feel safe in their own bodies, to feel deserving of connections with themselves and others, and to heal and thrive through pleasure - all leading the way to healthy intimacy and relationships. She believes that sexual health is an integral part of overall well-being. Liz's philosophy is that pleasure is an indication of flourishing. Liz uses her skills as a positive psychology practitioner to take the boo out of taboo to normalize conversations around sex and sexuality. Liz will help you to understand your sexual issues and resolve your sexual difficulties. While being healing-centered and trauma-informed, Liz works with people of all identities who experience various common sexual concerns including low libido, lack of pleasure, frustration around orgasming, pain during sex, decreased intimacy in their relationships, needing parenting support around sexuality, body-image issues, With Liz's individual, couples, or group coaching services, people are able to own their pleasure and sexuality, understand how anatomy contributes to their sexual pleasure, rediscover their libido, restore sexual intimacy in their relationships, and be the sex-positive role model that children need. Liz's focus areas include people in midlife who finally want to feel comfortable with their own sexuality and pleasure. She also supports parents around raising sexually healthy adults. Liz fundamentally believes that sexual wellness is essential to overall mental health. If you are curious about being on a path to pleasure, sexual wellbeing, and flourishing, contact Liz. 206 Healing Our Sisterhood Wounds

Ever compare yourself to other women? Feel less than or like you don't measure up? Oh sister, you know how strongly I feel that women coming together are magical! When we get together in sisterhood, it's a profound experience! And yet, so many of us have been hurt by women, and we carry deep sisterhood wounds. Well, I grew up believing that I needed to be perfect to be loved, and a lot of this had stemmed from my experiences with other girls when I was little. I was basing my sense of self-worth on the approval of others, and this has caused me so much grief over the years. These beliefs, "I'm only lovable if…" or "I'm only worthy if…", are so harmful and yet so common among women. For me, it's an ongoing effort of using my tools to keep these harmful beliefs at bay, and fortunately I have a toolkit of strategies that I use for this. In today's episode I'm talking about The childhood origins of some of my own sh*t – a story about cheerleading you need to hear The ups and downs of social media – how it impacts our worth My struggles in high school with shame and feeling like a loser The origins of our women wounds and how to move through them Why I create safe, sacred sisterhoods The surprising core nature of women in times of stress Specific steps for healing sisterhood wounds: 4 Purpose Power Tools to change your life with worth, women, and friendships And as of early June, 2022, the doors are now open for my life-changing retreat, Goddess Getaway: Italy! 205 Be Vulnerable Enough to Be Visible with Delegate Danica Roem

So many find it challenging to be their full, authentic selves, for fear of what others would think and do. And yet, for us to fully live our purpose and make the greatest impact on the world, we need to bring all of our gifts to bear from a place of authenticity. Today's guest is a true inspiration, a shining example of living your truth and making a positive impact in the world. Delegate Danica Roem joins us to discuss: Her first election in November 2017 as the first out and seated transgender state legislator in the US. Why it is so powerful for members of marginalized groups to see people like them in positions of authority. How she has stayed grounded while on the campaign trail. How she flips the script and turns getting attacked on social media into a positive. Being vulnerable enough to be visible. Her journey to transitioning. How she met her partner because of, not despite, her transitioning. The potentially difficult conversation around coming out. Running for the newly drawn open state senate seat in 2023. 203 The Anxiety Episode

We've been dealing with a pandemic for several years now (we recently passed 1 million COVID-related deaths here in the US alone) and we've been feeling the impacts of the health and safety risks as well as the isolation. Add to that the continuing incidents of gun violence, race-based attacks, attacks on women's rights, and so much more, and we have a lot of very real reasons to feel anxiety. So, the question becomes: What do we do about it? I have years of expertise in women's happiness and an Ivy League degree in Positive Psychology (the scientific study of human flourishing). And I also struggle with anxiety. I always have. If you're looking for that one thing you can do to alleviate your anxiety, you're going to be disappointed, because there isn't one thing that works for everyone. We're just too complex for that. However, I have a toolkit of strategies that I use to manage my own anxiety on a regular basis, and in today's episode I'm going to share my tools with you: I get support. I surround myself with sisterhood. I allow myself to feel and express my emotions instead of suppressing them. I reframe how I think about my own anxiety. I practice acceptance. I ground in and meditate. I move my body. I use my journal (you'll have to listen to find out how). One of my favortie ways to reframe: "What else is true?" Self-touch Taking a bath I also get very personal in talking about how my own anxiety manifests itself, and what it feels like. And as of May 19, 2022, the doors are now open for my life-changing retreat, Goddess Getaway: Italy!
