Professional Decathlete Jack Flood On Discipline, Confidence, & Chasing After The Best Version Of Yourself

Today on the podcast, I speak with the one and only Jack Flood.  Jack is a professional decathlete who has represented Team USA before. Prior to his years as a professional, Jack won both NCAA Division III heptathlon (indoors) and decathlon (outdoors) titles during his senior track and field season in 2017. Jack is full of ebullience and brought incredible wisdom to the podcast. In this conversation, Jack and I discuss discipline, training for many hours a day, taking risks, developing confidence when no one believes in you, his journey from DIII to professional athlete and much more. Lastly, we discuss his Chipotle deal and what he'd make for Gordon Ramsay for dinner.  You can listen wherever you find your podcasts by searching, "The Running Effect Podcast." The Story Of Nike With Nike Historian-Emeritus Scott Reames

"Prefontaine basically started Nike's Sports Marketing entire blueprint: athletes talking to athletes. That's one reason Phil Knight was so anti-advertising for a long time; he felt that the best advertising was one athlete telling another. We called it 'word of foot' advertising instead of 'word of mouth.'" My conversation with Scott Reames on the podcast today is one of the most fascinating discussions I've ever had. Scott is the Nike Historian-Emeritus and worked at Nike from 1992-2021. During his time there, Scott successfully documented Nike's history, and that built the backbone of the wildly successful book by Co-Founder of Nike Phil Knight, "Shoe Dog." Scott knows more about the history of Nike than anyone else.  I let my curiosity guide this conversation, resulting in a fascinating and wide-ranging discussion. I pick Scott's brain on many different topics, including Nike's beginnings, some of their biggest signings (Lebron James, Tiger Woods, Serena Williams, etc.), Nike's most significant calculated risks, how Nike grew from $8,000 in revenue its first year to $44.5 billion in 2021, and many more subjects.  You can listen wherever you find your podcasts by searching, "The Running Effect Podcast." High School Sensation Sadie Engelhardt Shares Her Story, Running 4:35 In The Mile As A Freshman, & Future Goals

Today on the podcast, I get to speak with high school sensation, Sadie Engelhardt. Just as a Freshman last year, Sadie ran 4:35.16 in the mile (a U16 World Record), won Nike Outdoor Nationals, broke the state record in the 1500 by clocking a 4:11.79 at the Portland Track Festival. On the grass this past season, Sadie won a state championship and, early in the season, ran a record-breaking time of 15:42 in the 3-mile. Sadie's coach, Tyree Cruz, put it best, “Sadie may be one of the best runners in high school history, but she’s so much more than that. She’s also a great teammate who loves her team and is always there for them.” I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Sadie. It was light, fun, and inspiring. We discuss her start in the sport all the way up to going into some of her biggest races. Sadie also answers your listener questions and talks about her love of Trader Joe's. Listening to my podcast with Sadie Engelhardt will provide valuable insight and inspiration for anyone looking to improve their performance and overall well-being. Through Sadie's personal experiences and knowledge, you will gain a deeper understanding of the mental and physical components of running and how to apply them to enhance your own running journey and ultimately improve the quality of your life. Stronger Through Adversity With Cole Sprout

The one and only Cole Sprout returns to the podcast. The first episode I ever did with Cole was when I had the Flu; so happy to have a conversation with him when I felt normal. Cole is a junior at Stanford University, where he has slowly cemented himself as one of the top runners in the NCAA. Just this indoor season so far, Cole has run 7:43 in the 3k and 13:24 in the 5k. Cole is also a multi-time All-American both on the track and the grass.  Today's conversation was wide-ranging and philosophical at times. Cole is an incredibly perspicacious speaker, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this conversation. He recaps his XC season, growing in faith because of it, confidence, culture, and much more. I'm extremely confident that you'll be positively impacted by listening to this conversation! I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did having it.  You can listen wherever you find your podcasts by searching, "The Running Effect Podcast." From 24 Minute 5k To NCAA Champion: The Story Of Yaseen Abdalla

"It's hard before it gets easy; getting there is the hard part. You have to be so confident in yourself that people think you're delusional."  This is a podcast I've been wanting to make happen since March of 2022. Yaseen Abdalla has gone from a 24min 5k guy to NCAA National Champion. The story of Yaseen Abdalla is one full of ups and downs, and I left this conversation incredibly inspired. Yaseen is the David Goggins of the NCAA. He has an unbreakable mind that was fascinating to explore. Yaseen recently ran 7:42 in the 3k moving inside the collegiate all-time top 10. Yaseen also competed for his country of Sudan at the 2022 Eugene World Championships in July in the 5k.  In this podcast, Yaseen and I discuss his upbringing in the sport, throwing away his NCAA All-American medal, his teammate Dylan Jacobs running 7:36 in the 3k, confidence, failure, challenging the status quo, and making jumps in this sport. Through Yaseen's personal experiences and knowledge, you will gain a deeper understanding of the mental and physical components of running and how to apply them to enhance your own running journey and ultimately improve the quality of your life. THE CALL ROOM With Ben Flanagan | Episode 3: Hills and Valleys

Episode 3! A big recap of BU 5k, where Ben ran 13:11, NBGP, where he ran the 3k, and a race in Chicago where he paced. We also discuss current track news such as Millrose & 52 guys breaking four minutes in the mile at the same meet.  About THE CALL ROOM: Have you ever wondered what it looks like to train as a professional distance runner? What the day-to-day life looks like? How to handle setbacks, failure, adversity, and doubts? How to set goals, train for them, and execute them on race day? As outsiders, we see remarkable athletes accomplish remarkable things every year. We don't see the behind-the-scenes of what went into that remarkable performance. We don't see or understand the hours of hard work, struggle, doubt, etc. The Running Effect is here to bring you an inside look at all these things with the man, the myth, the legend, Ben Flanagan. Ben Flanagan has cemented himself as one of the best Canadian runners of all time in his short four years of being a professional runner. He is the Canadian half-marathon record holder with a time of 61:00 and has won the prestigious Falmouth Road Race three years in a row (gaining the name "The King of Falmouth" in the process). In addition, he won the 2018 NCAA 10k title while competing for the University of Michigan. Ben is currently sponsored by On Running and is a member of VNTC based out of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Over the next two months, Ben and I will dive deep into his indoor campaign leading into The Ten, presented by Sound Running. We will go into his training, racing, mindset, and answer your questions along the way! Enjoy the podcast? The Inside Scoop With Lex & Leo Young

Your favorite runners return to the podcast, Lex and Leo Young. Just a few weeks ago, they competed in the U20 race at the 2023 USA XC National meet. Leo ended up down a stacked field to win his first national title; this will send him to Australia to rep the red, white, and blue on a global stage. Lex placed a valiant 12th coming off of an injury; he is fully focused on running some fast times on the track very soon.  This conversation is one like any other we've had: full of insights, banter, and many laughs. I always thoroughly enjoy my conversations with Lex and Leo, and I know you will too!  You can listen wherever you find your podcasts by searching, "The Running Effect Podcast." A Thorough Conversation With Stanford & Australian Legend: Ky Robinson

Today on the podcast, I have the great privilege of speaking with the one and only, Ky Robinson. Ky competes for Stanford University, where he has slowly cemented himself as one of the top runners in the NCAA. Not only is Ky a force to be reckoned with in the NCAA, but Ky is also one of the top runners in his home country, Australia, having represented them at global championships, including the Eugune World Championships last summer, where he competed in the 5k. Just in the span of the short few months of indoor track, Ky has run 13:11 in the 5k, and 3:55 in the mile. Ky was also recently selected to represent his country Australia at the 2023 World XC Championships that will take place in Bathurst, Australia, this February 18.  This discussion with Ky was an absolute blast. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, and am confident you will, too. Ky dives deep into running for Stanford University and all aspects of that experience, from the workouts to the culture to specific races. We also go into his upbringing in the sport in Australia and his decision to come over to the US for college. We also go into this upcoming year and his outlook on it, including the 2023 World XC Championships coming up next weekend.  Lastly, Ky answers some listener questions, and we start to discuss the possibilities of a Spikeball dynasty in Palo Alto, this Fall. NCAA Champion & Record Holder: Dylan Jacobs Shares The Journey

Today on the podcast, I have the great privilege of speaking with newly minted NCAA Record Holder Dylan Jacobs. Just last week, Dylan set an American collegiate indoor record in the 5,000-meter run, running 13:11.01. Dylan competes for the University of Tennessee, where he has cemented himself as one of the top runners in the nation. Prior to his time at Tennessee, Dylan won the 2022 NCAA Men's 10k title while competing for the University of Notre Dame. Before the NCAA, Dylan won the 2017 Footlocker Nationals Cross Country Championship.  In this conversation, Dylan and I dive deep into his upbringing in this sport all the way up to dissecting his incredible 13:11 record-breaking performance. Dylan was a ton of fun to talk to, and I left the conversation both enlightened and inspired. I was fascinated by Dylan's work ethic and mindset, that has led to his dominance in the NCAA. We also talk about some fun subjects like college football, living in the mountains, and answer some fun listener questions. Dylan and I had a ton of fun discussing a plethora of topics, and hope you will tune in to listen to our conversation!  You can listen wherever you find your podcasts by searching, "The Running Effect Podcast."
