Your two favorite eurotrash contributors decided to rob the podcast graveyard for Halloween. If 2020 was a shit year, then 2021 must be its estranged father who went out for smokes then disappeared in a QAnon cult. Where 2020 felt like just waiting for the vaccine, 2021 is the year of both gigavaxxers and violent anti-vaxxers. Shows have returned, but their lineups are about as stable as Ozzy in The Decline of Western Civilization II. Some spray-tan psychopaths in Las Vegas had a festival that billed Health, TSOL, and Repulsion alongside Watain, Mgla, and the Flaming Lips. It’s been a fuck of a year. Luckily, Hans and Eenzaamheid know that if there is one thing the world needs right now, it’s another podcast. The October Spooktacular continues! This week we’re joined by Mike Hochins of Canadian death metal horror punks, VHS. We’re sitting down to talk 2021 Shudder release Jakob’s Wife, which is in some ways the How Stella Got Her Groove Back of vampire flicks. Starring Barbara Crampton in the delightful titular role and featuring Larry Fassbender Fessenden as the aforementioned Jakob, Jakob’s Wife is a tight 90-minute exploration of a small town preacher’s wife stuck in an increasingly shitty marriage – until some dang vampires come to town. If you’re looking for a horror movie that challenges your preconceptions about vampire tales, speaks frankly about aging and relationships, and offers The Man Behind The Diner from Mulholland Drive as a vampiric force of liberation, this might be the movie for you.
