Ep. 589: Life Lessons from an Outward Bound Instructor - Mark Michaux Brown
Outdoor Education: A lifelong Outward Bound advocate reveals how wilderness experiences shape powerful leaders, told through the stories of prominent alumni who have transformed the world around them. Every lesson that needs to be learned in life can be taught by nature. When we get out there we have time to breathe, to think, and to reflect on the beauty before us. It teaches us so much. No one knows that better than life-long Outward Bound promotor, Mark Brown. His life journey has taken many turns and his connection with the outdoors has fueled that life of adventure. After spending his entire career in Outward Bound, he recently published a book titled Outward Bound Lessons to Live a Life of Leadership that interviews some of Outward Bound’s most prominent alumni. They include Luis Benitez, one of the foremost mountaineers in the world, former US Senator Mark Udall, The Home Depot co-founder and current Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, and Kohler Co. VP Laura Kohler. The book identifies the impact of Outward Bound in the world as told through the stories of former instructors and participants who have gone on to make a difference in the world. The lessons focus on what was learned in the wilderness and how it applies to being a powerful, positive leader in any setting. You can find Outward Bound Lessons to Live a Life of Leadership here: markmbrown.comoutwardbound.orgHis LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/mark-brown-me-cpcc-b723104/Faceboook: @markmbrownauthorTry CS Instant Coffee for 50% off your first order for the months of September and October only! Ep. 583: 75 Years Young and Still Adventuring Around the World - Lin Pardey
Sailing: A 47-year, 210,000-mile voyage across 77 countries that began with a chance encounter with a sailor and evolved into a life lived entirely on the water. When Lin was tired of the “college-types” that she was always surrounded by, she decided to get to know a couple of sailors as an outlet from the mundaneness of campus life. She quickly fell in love with one of the guys, Larry, who was completely different from the folks she spent her days in class with. Lin was eager to learn so he began to teach her how to sail. Once she was comfortable on the water they began helping other folks deliver their boats around the area and they also began building their own. Not long after, the idea to live full-time on the 29-foot sailing vessel was born. Fast forward 47 years, 210,000 miles, and 77 countries later and we have Lin now sailing around the world on her own and having written dozens of books about her and Larry’s epic life. Lin has a lot to teach us in today’s episode and I encourage you to check out her many books.Try CS Instant Coffee for 50% off your first order for the months of September and October only!
