This episode we are joined by Don Hladiuk - scientist and professional geologist who has been heard for over 35 years on on the CBC morning show the Calgary EyeOpener as well as seen occasionally on CBC and CTV local TV news.Don is also an enrichment lecturer for the Road Scholar “Astronomy Above the Arctic Circle” program (Norway) and gives presentations on what’s up in the night sky to various organizations.Among other things, Don was the President of the Calgary centre of The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) from 1990-1992 and is a member of the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse Task Force for Astronomical Society of Canada. This episode we are joined by 2x Olympian & World Cup Ski racer Ben Thomsen for part II of our ongoing conversation!As discussed in part I of the show, Ben has spent 10 years on the World Cup circuit where he has competed in two Olympic games (Sochi 2014 & PyeongChang 2018) With numerous top ten results and World Championship finishes, he has been a tough competitor from the start. This season Ben has opted to race as solo athlete, since he was not re-selected to be a member of the Canadian National Ski Team which further adds to this great story. Along with his business and athletic career, his wife and family enjoying skiing in Fernie, where his is also working to create a land trust that aims to set aside thousands of forest acres for future use in the Fernie area. Today we are joined by Dr. Todd Anderson, a cardiologist by training who has had a variety of experience all the way from hands on medicine, to being the Director of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute and the Vice Dean at the Cumming School of Medicine (University of Calgary). Officially, his biography reads as follows:Dr. Anderson is a clinician scientist at the University of Calgary in the Department of Medicine. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Calgary and then undertook residency training in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology in Calgary. He pursued further research training in coronary physiology at the Brigham and Women's Hospital at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Anderson returned to the University of Calgary in 1995 and is currently a Professor of Medicine within the Cumming School of Medicine.
