This week we are joined by 8x Tour de France rider - Tyler Hamilton and his co-host in the Adventure Audio podcast - Pete Hock!Tyler had a long and successful cycling career including eight Tour de France appearances, many of which he was a key asset for Lance Armstrong.Among Tyler's many other accomplishments, he also competed in two Olympic Summer Games, winning gold in the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Things changed a bit for Tyler once doping allegations became real, but his past cycling performances are impossible to argue. Calgary based Pete Hock pursues his own business interests, and he and Tyler now co-host the Adventure Audio Podcast which you can find on most streaming platforms. #32: Fahr Beer (Jochen Fahr) - PhD’s, Sustainable Brewing & Being an Outlier
This episode I sat down to hear the cool story behind Fahr Beer!Founded in Turner Valley, Alberta by Jochen Fahr - Fahr Beer was built on the idea of being as different as possible from most traditional breweries. For example, Jochen deliberately chose to build the brewery outside the city of Calgary, while following the strict German Purity laws when brewing his beer. Making the story even more interesting is that Jochen has made it his goal to build as many sustainable practices into the business as he could. Using filtered water to help grow grass for reclamation projects, giving old grain husks to local cows and and using recycled Nitrogen are just a few of the cool projects done so far!We sat down for a smooth cup of rose bros coffee and talked about Jochen's path from getting a PhD in Biomedical Engineering to starting a brewery, sustainable brewing practices, being different, treating employees right and removing gimmicks from your business!Enjoy!Support the show

#31: Koho Financial (Dan Eberhard) - Tech in Canada & Taking On Big Banks
This episode we are joined by Dan Eberhard - Founder & CEO of Koho Financial. Koho is a new banking alternative rooted in the belief that a better banking experience exists for customers that offers lower fees than traditional banks. Koho has partnered with companies like Visa and Peoples Trust to bring a secure product that can be used worldwide, and is backed by established investors like the Power Group and Drive Capital. So far, Koho has raised approximately $60M, has ~ 250,000 users, employ's ~100 people and shows no signs of slowing down! Dan was also a co-founder of Kineticor Renewable which facilitated the development of a 20Mw Wind Energy Plant, up to point of construction and was acquired by Algonquin Power (AQN:TSX) in 2011. This episode we are joined by Phil Robertson: co-founder of the Phil & Sebastien Coffee Company. Inspired by David Schomer’s Espresso Coffee: Professional Techniques, Phil & Sebastien started their company in late 2007 after they began to realize their engineering jobs no longer left them fulfilled. Combining inspirational trips to Seattle, a lot of trial and error, brain storming sessions and a coffee apprenticeship, Phil & Sebastien had a name and were off the races. After getting their start in Calgary's Farmer's market they haven't looked back as they have steadily added cafe's and doughnuts (Hoopla Doughnuts) to their business ever since.Covid-19 has proved to be tough for Phil & Sebastien, but the company is positioned to come back even stronger from recent events than ever before. We sat down for a smooth cup of rose bros coffee and talked about how Ken prepared for his world cup wins, hiked up Kitzbühel, the origins of the Londoner Bar tradition, dealing with adversity, life after ski racing and how Ken gives back to alpine ski racing today!Ken has had a long and decorated career with some of the highlights as follows:-10 years on the Canadian National Ski Team-14 x World Cup Podiums-2 x Olympics -4 x World Cup Championship Teams -1st Canadian (and North American) to win a men's Downhill World Cup race, in Val-d'Isère, France on December 7, 1975-1st non-European to win both the Hahnenkamm (Kitzbühel), and the Swiss Lauberhorn (Wengen)-Named Canada's Athlete of the Year in 1978 (Lou Marsh Award) -Canadian Male Amateur Athlete of the Year in 1980-In 1991 he was made a Member of the Order of Canada (Canada's highest civilian honour)-Inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1985-Inducted into Canada's Skiing Hall of Fame (Honor Roll of Canadian Skiing) in 1986 -Along with his four teammates, the Crazy Canucks were inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in 2006-Inducted into the International Ski Racing Hall of Fame in 2010He was also the CEO of Alpine Canada from 2002 -2008 and has two sons on the Canadian National Ski TeamIt was a great episode and I hope you enjoy it!Support the show

This episode Mike Rutherford and I sat down for the 3rd part of the "Rundle Eco-Capitalism Series" sponsored by Rundle Eco Services to talk to Michael MacLeod & Cael Tucker - founders of Tailgunner Brewing Company. Tailgunner's story is based on Mike's Grandpa - Lint Stephenson - who was shot down over Holland during World War Two. The entire flight crew was lost in the crash, except for Lint who then went on to spend two years in a POW Camp.
