No we aren’t swearing mad! Finances- the dreaded “b” word ( budget), money or lack of it. Like politics or religion, everyone wants to avoid dealing with the finance topic. Even if you are  swimming in it you might not have your financial house in order. Fun- neglected by most. Can you guess it is a top priority for Tim? This week is another Doctales with Cocktails and…..today we call BS on ourselves. We have done some really dumb stuff over the years and now we are laughing and sharing a FEW of the ridiculousness of our medical past. We have experienced exploding sebaceous cysts causing “something about May”, exploding speculum shrapnel and hydration on the legislature lawn. Tim has even been paid in whiskey for weekend vasectomies!  We confess we like our hillbilly medical experience which involves some vet medicine and NASCAR driving to emergencies. We have touched on Fentanyl and the opioid epidemic. This week we interview Ben Westhoff , author of Fentanyl Inc. Westhoff has become the go-to expert on the subject of fentanyl and new drugs. His credits include consultation with top government officials, including the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, and the U.S. State Department. He has been a guest on  The Joe Rogan Experience  and NPR Ben’s extensive research involved tapping into the history and stories of  various chemists, drug makers, drug dealers and criminals in the field. This is a very somber, serious and sad story about the human element in our story about the Opioid crisis. We had the honor of interviewing our friends for this podcast so they could share their story. Just months ago, they lost their teenage son, Tanner. A scant amount of Fentanyl sprayed on a tablet of Tylenol took his life.  Everyone in the medical profession as well as the community at large will have their eyes wide opened to how this new crisis is overtaking our country.  As physicians, Tim and I have huge remorse for their family’s loss. But we also feel the burden of owning the problem as healthcare workers  who were pressured to treat the “5th vital sign”. Woohoo, our second Doctales episode is full of cheeky fun and some of the stuff that makes us laugh. Mays doing a wine tasting while Tim is imbibing in the green fairy, stay tuned. Of course EVERYONE has a high pain threshold, and you all seem to think you need antibiotics for bronchitis.. these are a few of the myths we debunk ( and laugh at in the process) We never tire of getting complimented on how “young we look” but yes WE ARE old enough to be doctors. Like it or not, telehealth has fully arrived!  As Covid grappled the world, 2020  saw a dramatic rise in the implementation of telehealth services.  How has telehealth impacted you? Do you love it or hate it? We discuss the pros and cons for both physicians and patients, and share some laughs about some of our personal struggles with it. Patients: did you know there are some key vital signs and pre-visit things you can do to make your visit better?  For instance, as much as we like your newly minted eyebrows, we prefer to see your whole face!  We share a list of dos and don’ts that make your visit more successful.
