God has beautiful plans for every one of His kids. Those plans don’t automatically come to pass. Those plans require following the Spirit of God within us. Change is a constant. The world is changing. We are changing. Our lives are changing. Holy Spirit is relentlessly in the process of conforming us into the image of Christ - the image of Love from one level of revealed glory to another. As sons and daughters, we are led by the Spirit of God in the process and in the paths we are invited to take. If we look the same as we did a year ago, we are stagnating. God constantly invites us to grow. This means we are led to regularly let go of things - things that are negative and destructive and things that were good, but no longer serve at least in the same way now. This will sometimes involve changes in the relationships we have, what we are called to do, and how we are called to do it. This process is often painful and almost always uncomfortable. Focusing on lovely thoughts is so important for our mental health. It gives us capacity to address very real issues that carry pain and hopelessness. Being a Pastor or Minister can be extremely isolating and lonely. Pastors and ministers are people with burdens, brokenness, quandaries, and traumas - all while carrying a lot of responsibility that can be crushing. Often they feel they have to represent Christ well, they have all the answers, a perfect family, perfect life, and perfect personal conduct, while getting downloads from God and fulfilling the call on their lives in all the areas of their lives. All too frequently they have their own crises in God, the church, doctrine, and the trauma that can come with serving people in and outside of the church. All this can culminate in a recipe for disaster and hence the “fall” of pastors and ministers - one after the other. This carries overwhelming shame and condemnation, often the worst from the Church itself. It is part of the human condition to experience simply wrong or frankly evil situations. It can be utterly overwhelming. But in the midst of the perplexity, we do have hope. In the midst of so many things we do not have control over, we are empowered to control our own actions, attitudes, behavior, reactions, decisions and well-being .
