EP23: Diagnosing E-Commerce ATO issues
It has been an entire year since the Covid-19 pandemic changed almost every facet of our lives. For those in e-commerce fraud prevention, depending on the vertical of your business, you either saw a massive drop in sales & increase in refunds & chargebacks (e.g. in-person event tickets, travel and related expenses, etc) or a huge increase in sales, and often fraud that followed (essential retail items, food delivery, etc.). At the beginning of this episode, Karisse shares some of her memories from the beginning of the pandemic when panic, uncertainty, and questions ensued. Additionally, Karisse talks about the need for diagnosing a company's ATO (Account Takeover) problems prior to selecting or investing in a solution. She shares examples of various current methods of account takeovers being utilized by cyber criminals, and also discusses multiple goals or intentions of the ATOs, and how these are important to select the right prevention strategy for the type of attacks your companies experiences. Not all solutions claiming to prevent ATOs will work on all methods and/or goals of the attacks. It is equally important for solution providers to understand this, in order to target the companies that need their services most, and not risk disappointment or overpromising/underdelivering. EP19: Chargebacks - To Arbitrate or Not to Arbitrate, That is the Question
The first "Fearless Female Fraud-fighter" virtual retreat was a big success & Karisse shares some of the highlights, as well as one of the activities that may be helpful to anyone who has recently asked themselves a version of the question "What do I want to be when I grow up?" or are simply looking for their next role. Later, Karisse shares a question that was recently asked of her regarding chargeback arbitration. Like with most topics related to chargebacks, there are a lot of factors that are misunderstood or come across as confusing, so she breaks this down in a simple basketball analogy. If you've wondered how you can help your company recover more funds that are often lost in the traditional chargeback system, this may be worth considering, but it's important to also know the risks & overall process.
