071 - Photoshop and Image Manipulation

Has the ability to Photoshop images become too easy? At what point during manipulating a photo does it stop being a photo and become a digital work? What are the ethical ramifications of AI image and video editing software that makes it possible to create deep fakes or entirely new "people" who don't actually exist? I talk with Photoshop tutor and digital artist, Andrew Kavanagh to explore these questions and more. About My Guest Andrew Kavanagh is a digital artist, Photoshop and Lightroom tutor, as well as doing Photo Compositing and Photo Retouching in Los Angeles, California. He's also the creator of several Facebook groups which seek to help digital artists learn and grow their skills: Photoshop and Lightroom Group Photoshop and Photography Group Digital Art Group Strange and Surreal Art Group You can also find Andrew on Instagram and Facebook. 069 - Shutter Talk: Decoding the Language of the Photo Industry

On this very funny episode of The Nerdy Photographer Podcast, Steven Van Elk from the Wedding Photo Hangover Podcast drops by to discuss photo industry 'code words'. Code words? What code words? The photo industry has code words? You know, the things that photographers and people in the industry like to say when they really mean something else. For example, when photographers use the term "unphotogenic" to describe subjects they personally don't think are attractive. Or terms like "challenging" or *shudder* "vibes"... Tune in as Steven and I try to decode the photo industry vernacular... 065 - Porch Portraits Project and Beyond

Chicago based photographer Jackie Bravo Vicere and I discuss her Front Porch Portraits Project that launched her to notoriety, landing her a featured segment on the NBC Nightly News. About My Guest "I moved to Chicago when I was 18 years old and started exploring my opportunities in the creative field. I didn't know anyone so I knew it was the perfect opportunity to reinvent myself! As I continued my career in photography in a foreign country, many different opportunities started arising! One of the most important ones in my career, so far, was the Front Porch Project during the pandemic lockdown in 2020. I took this opportunity and created a project that, to this day, continues to create opportunities! I am happily married to my husband Travis and we are expecting our first child together. I will experience motherhood behind the lens and get creative to document each and every milestone in my child's growth. I am an advocate of documenting milestones and printing them out; there is nothing like a printed picture. I continue to explore life creatively and offer my talent to non-profits as well as in a professional level." You can also follow Jackie on Facebook and Instagram.

064 - Camera Lens Filters

Camera lens filters? What are they? What do you use them for? The most important thing to remember is that whatever filter you get, DO NOT GO CHEAP! Putting cheap glass (or plastic) between your lens and your subject just defeats the purpose of trying to take a better photo.
