059 - Shutterbugs and Superheroes: Exploring the World of Fictional Photographers
I sit with longtime friend of the show, Leighton DaCosta, to discuss photographers in movies, television, and other media. How is the profession portrayed? What is it about these portrayals that photographers love? And hate? From Peter Parker/Spiderman to Jimmy Olsen to Dexter and more, we take a deep dive into the world of fictional photographers. About Our Guest Leighton DaCosta, or "LD" as many know him by, is a Wedding and Fine Art Portrait Photographer based in Charleston, South Carolina. He started his photography business 15 years ago while serving in the Navy. Due to the military requirements, he learned to make his studio "interstate mobile" as he has operated for extended periods in Virginia, Florida, Utah, Georgia, and now, South Carolina. He's conducted photo assignments in exotic and remote places such as Dubai, Jamaica, and Aruba; as well as several years flying over Afghanistan. You can check out Leighton's website at LeightonD.com, and follow along with him on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. 055 - The Emotional Value of Photos
I sit down with wedding photographer Erica Leman of Sweet Alice Photography to discuss a topic many photographers don't think about when trying to book clients: the emotional value and 'weight' of photos. Whether you're photographing a wedding, family portraits, or newborn images, the emotional impact can be different for every viewer. Here's a secret: people are more likely to book AND spend more money based on emotions! About Our Guest Erica Leman of Sweet Alice Photography is a wedding photographer and photography business coach located in the Hudson Valley of New York (Yes, her name is Erica, not Alice – Alice is her cat). When she's not spending time photographing weddings and teaching others how to run a profitable wedding photography business of their own, she's likely cuddling with her pets (two dogs and two cats), hiking with her husband, or doing a puzzle.
