Fighting Pain with the Brain with Dr. Schechter

Dr. Schechter, a Beverly Hills doctor who tries to relieve pain with the power of the mind joins Vinnie Tortorich on this Friday show of the Angriest Trainer podcast. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Villa Cappelli Pure Vitamin Club Squatty Potty promo: vinnie15 DR SARNO Dr. Schechter had really bad knee problems, went to see Dr. Sarno Dr. Sarno told him that most of his pain was psychosomatic His pain was lifting as he learned about it Dr. Schechter was amazed that he didn't prescribe medication or anything else inspired him DR. SCHECHTER'S WORK Think Away Your Pain Works with patients who's problems are often mostly in their heads David Schechter teaches people how to deal with often psychosomatically dealt pain He also will work with structural problems If it is a mechanical problem, the pain is often corporal as opposed to mental His focus is TMS -- brain stimulation PAIN AND HOW IT EFFECTS US Although Vinnie's pain is mechanical, the brain makes it worse in times of stress and worry The brain amplifies and localizes pain Once you get into a mindset of chronic pain, it can be hard to get rid of Getting rid of mental pain can take longer, but can be a real fix, whereas a shot of cortisone or something similar is just a bandaid Adrenaline allows people to push themselves Often the pain is real, but it is not specific to one place because it is in the brain Ultra racing & pain Exhaustion appears often as pain, hits you one place, if you beat it mentally, it will move around

Zone 2 in a Nutshell

Vinnie Tortorich and Andy Schreiber discuss Zone 2 simply on today's Wednesday edition of the Angriest Trainer podcast. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSOR Pure Vitamin Club ! VINNIE'S WEEK Just came back from a week of crewing in the desert Vinnie records at least 4 shows a week -- that's quite a lot! Over 450 or some odd episodes up WHAT IS ZONE 2... REALLY? There are 5 zones, although most people only need to think of zones 1-4 Everyone has an anaerobic threshold Zone 5: where your body goes when lactic acid production > lactic acid clearing This is for intense athletes Zone 1: basically walking, maybe a fast walk Zone 2: When you're breathing hard, but can still have a conversation You can get a test in a lab to tell you what your threshold for zone 2 is Poor man's way: take 180, subtract by age, add a few points if you are very active and anywhere in there you are hitting zone 2 (heart rate) Slow up a bit if you are in zone 3, because then you are burning more glycogen than fat If you are looking to PR a marathon, look into some zone 3 and 4 Best way to stay in shape AND burn fat! Little sprint spurts (only if you have a good base) are fine Do this for minimum of 8 wks (Vinnie recommends 12 wks)

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Pure Vitamin Club Villa Cappelli Squatty Potty ADVERTISEMENTS Vinnie will not sell out Everything Vinnie advertises for he believes in People who will give big cuts for products Anna and Vinnie don't support make offers -- Anna and Vinnie will never accept For example, Vinnie & Anna (unlike Dr. Oz) would never advertise "Heart Healthy Grains" POOPING We will have a show on pooping soon with Dr. X Some people with bad constipation go once or twice every couple weeks This can be bad for one's health Diverticulitis -- inflammation of diverticulosis Dr. X knew a patient who's poop was so backed up it was coming out of the other end SUBARUS Subaru is a "lesbian car" Serena has one and Dr. X just got one So much cheaper, more comfortable, more efficient Luxury cars are ripoffs, even if they look sleek KARI GORMLEY Check out her website! Very enthusiastic and very happy Vinnie thinks those tech tees and tights smell really bad Microfibers Vinnie suggests using animal product pee stain remover (Nature's Miracle) to neutralize odors She is part of the "The Order of the Vinnie" each's audience respects the other

Transitioning To No Sugar No Grains

On today's Saturday edition of the Angriest Trainer podcast, Vinnie Tortorich answers questions from the newly NSNG Alyssa Klarman of Florida. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSOR Pure Vitamin Club ALYSSA KLARMAN Heard Vinnie's podcast on Resume with Chris Laxamana Tallulah (hey!) got Vinnie on the show Vinnie couldn't get on the show himself Vinnie taught Tallulah the power of her Alyssa started NSNG a few weeks ago from a strict 1280 calorie/day diet She feels so much better now that she is no longer calorie in/calorie out This is better at 125lbs than starving to get to 119lbs IS RED WINE OR BEER WORSE? Alyssa and her husband go out drinking with friends a few times a week She has cut diet soda out of her diet! She wants to know if the sugar of red wine, or the sugar/grains of beer is less "Life into Living" Both are bad, but if it is truly occasional, it is okay Best way to go is drinking distilled liquors BEST ADVICE FOR WOMEN COMING OFF OF CALORIE IN/CALORIE OUT AND GAINING WEIGHT AS THEY START NSNG? Women coming off of calorie in/calorie out will start eating lots of fat, and in turn, gain weight It is hard not to freak out but gaining weight is normal after starving oneself You must stay the course! NSNG is not a quick fix, it is a paradigm shift After the first couple of weeks, it starts getting better (getting past carbflu or ketoflu) Some people need to snack more than others -- if you need to, make sure it is in moderation and NSNG WHEN ADJUSTING, SHOULD YOU AVOID SNACKING? Coming off of eating unhealthy snacks, eat as much NSNG as you need Because the carbs are generally not as filling, you may have to eat more at the beginning, and that is okay It should start to self regulate after a few weeks IS JICAMA OKAY? Alyssa traded apples and strawberries for jicama Jicama is good! Nothing but fiber :) Vinnie is starting to take a harder line approach to fruit Vinnie thinks that fruit is okay, but shouldn't be a staple Berries are the best!

We used neither magnesium citrate or carbonate Should be on the market mid-late Sept. 2015 IMPORTANCE OF MAGNESIUM Mineral that people are most likely to be deficient in Pesticides in food production, soil erosion, etc, deplete magnesium in food sources Joints, heart function, muscles, etc, all depend on magnesium It is an important component in insulin regulation Therefore, this mineral can help Type 2 diabetes Consult your physician if this affects you!
