Episode 734 - We're Not White-Labeling

: Episode 734 - Vinnie & Andy talk about the difference between white-labeling vitamins and Pure Vitamin Club (PVC) as well as the reason for using 4 types of magnesium instead of just 1 in a magnesium supplement. PEOPLE ASSUME (2:15) - Often, people assume that Vinnie's vitamin is white-labeled and that just uses his audience to sell someone else's product. White-labeling is very common and even some of close friends ask him if that is what he is doing with Pure Vitamin Club (4:35) - One of Vinnie's friends noticed that when he started taking Pure Vitamin Club vitamins, is pee was not fluorescent-yellow like when he takes other vitamins. WHITE LABELING (5:10) - White-labeling is a common practice where people put their own brands on generic products White-labeling is a very common practice where people essentially just slap their own label and their own brand on generic products - Andy Schreiber Very common with makeup and hand-creams and things like that Vinnie relays the story of when he was at the mall and there was a huge line for Kylie Jenner's makeup store. One of Vinnie's makeup-artist friends claims that Kylie Cosmetics is white-labeled Many doctors have their own skincare labels and it's often the same as Jergens lotion but charge much more for it. (12:00) - Pure Vitamin Club vitamins do not turn your urine yellow because they are more readily absorbed by the body. We don't give you more of anything than your body can absorb - Andy Schreiber MAGNESIUM (12:45) - Magnesium is not just magnesium Pure Vitamin Club for different types of magnesium in their magnesium supplement: Magnesium Glycinate Magnesium Taurate Magnesium Carbonate Magnesium Citrate Magnesium Citrate - the cheapest and most common form of magnesium, often used in laxatives because it has the strongest laxative effect, followed by magnesium carbonate. (15:15) - PVC magnesium is much more gentle than most magnesium supplements because it is well-balanced and not dominated by magnesium citrate (17:00) - Vinnie and Andy work hard to make PVC vitamins the best they can possibly make it Many of Vinnie and Andy's business friends tell them they should charge much more for the vitamins Vinnie and Andy want to make the vitamins affordable. They are profitable, but not designed to screw the customer They are in the business of helping people EAT HAPPY (20:45) - By Anna's book Eat Happy Anna learned how to do food photography and took all the photos for the book herself! Anna also personally invented, tested and perfected the recipes herself. She didn't pull them off the Internet PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS: Pure Vitamin Club UPCOMING EVENTS: Vinnie's Big Fat Show at Flapper's in Burbank, CA, featuring Gina Grad from 100.3 The Sound and the Adam Carolla show and podcaster Chris Laxamana

Don't Make New Year's Resolutions - Episode 733

: Episode 733 - Happy New Year! Vinnie & Anna talk about new year's resolutions, some recent NSNG shakes and meals, the infamous Vagina Weightlifting Contest, and bad nutritional advice to the military. AULD LANG SYNE (3:15) - Auld Lang Syne - Confusing song and nobody really knows what it means, but we'll be playing it anyway. (6:00) - Anna Vocino's book Eat Happy is doing well. Thank you to all the listeners who are buying the book and recommending it to your friends. The days of not knowing what to cook for NSNG or low-carb meals are gone. Also gone are the days of eating fat-free Snackwells and garbage like that. CRAVINGS SELF-DENIAL (13:30) - Vinnie talks about how people in the 80's and 90's would begin to crave sugar in the middle of their aerobic exercise. After they were done, they would eat a cookie or a muffin to replenish their glycogen. Doing this regularly causes the brain to begin associating low glycogen with eating a dessert. After awhile people would skip the aerobics and just go get their treat in their tights and scrunchies. Then, people would attempt to lose the extra weight they gained by denying themselves the sweets, (but the sugar cravings remain) Self-denial is not sustainable and leads to disorders NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS (16:40) - New Year's Resolutions December phone consults are very booked because people are preparing for their resolutions Vinnie doesn't like resolutions or any kind of decree where you say you're going to make an extreme change on Monday because they generally don't stick. Start working towards Monday instead of blowing it out until Monday... Anyone who's going to keep eating like an idiot all the way through the weekend and just cramming food in because they think they're going to start something on Monday, I have news for you, by Tuesday you're going to fail. Forcing things is where you're going to trip yourself up. Bring it on easy, break into it. Don't go cold turkey. That will feel too restrictive and will lead to failure NSNG MEALS AND SHAKES (24:45) - Since it's been cooler out, Vinnie has been making his NSNG shake HOT If you throw your raw veggies into your vitamix and let them spin on high for a few minutes, they get hot. They're not cooked, per se, but they are hot Today, Vinnie put in broccoli, cauliflower, water, bone broth until hot. Then he put in some turmeric, Tabasco, and salt-and-pepper. Then, once it's hot he added some Villa Cappelli olive oil and a splash of cream at the very end, all poured into a big giant mug Basically, it was a puréed soup Tons of energy (28:20) - Anna's NSNG food today... Got up at 6:30 AM and had some "bulletproof" coffee with a teaspoon of coconut oil, a teaspoon of MCT Oil, and some cinnamon whipped in. At 11 AM she had a grass fed beef patty spiced up with salt and pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, sautéed onions and pickles over some lettuce, with Eat Happy balsamic vinaigrette and 2 pieces of bacon for lunch. (30:10) - Vinnie talks about is omlette recipe where he beats the eggs in the Vitamix and mixes in a little half-and-half, puts it in a hot skillet with some cooked pancetta, some grated cheese and then some fresh avocado just before he folds it over. Anna recommends sautéing a little onion or shallots into the pancetta grease before putting in your eggs AMAZON WINNER (33:00) - Vinnie and Anna announced the Amazon winner She will win a black F#&K Quinoa T-shirt You can get in the running to be the Amazon winner by purchasing products on Amazon using the Amazon banner link on vinnietortorich.com (36:00) - A lot of people wanted the Favorite Breakfast Scrambled Eggs limited T-shirt after it was no longer offered but they will not be sold again. The same is going to happen with the F#&K Quinoa limited edition T-shirt, so get them what you can. VAGINA WEIGHTLIFTING CONTEST (39:30) - Vinnie relays a funny story about him asking a porn star to be in his Vagina Weightlifting Contest Vinnie wanted to have a "Vagina Weight Lifting Contest" a few years ago because there was a gal on the Internet who would pick up things with her vagina using kegel exercises (Kim Anami). Vinnie & Anna had some funny sashes made for it but nobody was interested in participating. Vinnie & Anna want to invite Kim Anami to the studio to do some demos and an interview BAD NUTRITIONAL GUIDANCE TO THE MILITARY (52:00) - A friend at Travis Air Force Base sent some pictures of the very outdated and incorrect recommended meal plans from the nutritional clinic Generally, they are very low-fat/high carb Very depressing and sad meal plan Lifestyle recommendations are made to lower cholesterol PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS: Villa Cappelli Olive Oil - Use promo code "VINNIE" Pure Vitamin Club UPCOMING EVENTS: Vinnie's Big Fat Show at Flapper's in Burbank, CA, featuring Gina Grad from 100.3 The Sound and the Adam Crolla show and podcaster Chris Laxamana

Don't Focus On Pounds With Jess Allen Britt - Episode 732

: Episode 732 - Listener and NSNG success story Jess Allen Britt returns to talk about his weight loss journey, making NSNG a lifestyle instead of a diet, and developing grit. JESS ALLEN BRITT'S JOURNEY (3:00) - Jess tells his story Led a very sedentary life playing video games, drinking beer and eating ice cream during times of under employment. 370 lbs (6' tall), depressed, and so unhealthy that he'd throw his back out just walking around Has been trying to lose weight since daughter was born 5 years ago. 2 years ago he started to be able to keep it off IT'S ABOUT LIFESTYLE NOT POUNDS (6:00) - Vinnie works with a lot of large people and a loss of 100lbs seems to be the turning point where people start gaining the weight back. Jess believes that looking at a specific number of lbs to lose as a goal is not necessarily the way to go. The end number is not the way to look at it. You have to look at it like you're an addict, your an alcoholic and you can't function on alcohol so you just stop and you never go back to it. And that's kind of how you have to look at it with sugar and grains or you're never going to succeed - Jess Allen Britt (8:30) - Jess feels that you have to change your expectations of what life's about so that eating without sugar and grains is not the worse thing in the world to you. Jess eats just meat, eggs, veggies and cheese. He's basically been in dietary ketosis since Jan 2016 Vinnie agrees that NSNG is NOT A DIET. It's a lifestyle. Eating this way is not that hard. I just eat meat, eggs, veg's, cheese and stuff like that and, honestly, as long as I don't mess around with grains or sugar...I've been in ketosis since January - Jess Allen Britt INTERMITTENT FASTING & EXOGENOUS KETONES (10:50) - Other doctors are more strict than Vinnie with ketosis and medical fasting Jess does some intermittent fasting by not eating breakfast because that works for him. He had to work up to that by extending the fast half an hour until he was only drinking coffee until lunch (no breakfast) A lot of people jump into the fasting thing and mess themselves up by doing so . Vinnie says people who are morbidly obese may want to follow a Ron Rosedale or Jason Fung Vinnie thinks many people are using intermittent fasting as a form of trickery instead of part of a lifestyle change. Some people are taking exogenous keytones to get into ketosis and Vinnie doesn't think you need that. Vinnie believes you don't have to be in deep dietary ketosis to lose weight Jess once wrote on the NSNG facebook group: Taking exogenous ketones puts you into nutritional ketosis as much as putting a strap-on on a woman makes her a man - Jess Allen Britt Exogenous keytones were made for Navy Seals who needed to use them in the field. Vinnie doesn't think it's healthy to jump right into dietary ketosis THE TRANSFORMATION (15:00) - Jess has put on a lot of lean body mass and lost a lot of fat. Started at 370 lbs and is now 210 lbs Now wearing a medium T-shirt and size 32 pants Starting to see more definition. Vinnie can see the huge difference even in his face Used to have debilitating depression but hasn't needed any ant-depressants in a year Jess feels like a significantly different person mentally and emotionally when he's not eating sugars and grains Has more grit now. (20:00) - Vinnie feels good that people like Jess Britt are having changed lives as a result of NSNG Dean Lorey cajoled Vinine into writing the book and he is very grateful for it Jess would like to help other people who are going through the same thing. Gary Taubes and The Case Against Sugar - Episode 731

: Episode 731 - Best-selling author and investigative journalist Gary Taubes returns to talk about his new book The Case Against Sugar and how the medical community and government are resisting the overwhelming evidence of sugar's harmfulness. (3:15) - Taubes talks about how he was initially reluctant to be on Vinnie's podcast a few years ago because his message is so important he had to act like an adult. He acknowledges that Vinnie's podcast is "a thing" because he makes it fun and also let's the anger towards the people perpetuating lies about nutrition come to the forefront. It's a hard tightrope to walk sometimes. GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES (4:20) - We have a fundamental problem because there are so many countries with government-sanctioned nutritional guidelines that are based on bad science. Anyone who gives dietary advice contrary to the popular beliefs is labeled as a radical. (8:00) - How do you respond to people who point to Southeast Asia as examples of high-grain, low saturated fat cultures that have a historically very long life span and fewer cases of obesity, diabetes and heart disease? Dr Taubes points to the fact that these cultures also have a significantly lower sugar consumption and are about 100 years behind the Western world. Their heart disease rates are very similar to what ours were 100 years ago when we were consuming a similar amount of sugar. (13:00) - Today, breakfasts are essentially a variation on dessert. (breakfast cereal, etc) MODERN SCIENCE RUINED BY OLD TECHNOLOGY (14:15) - Modern nutrition science is based on all these belief systems that, in turn, were products of the technology of the time. This whole idea that obesity is an energy balance, a calorie problem is because for the first 50 years of modern nutrition from the 1860's to the 1920's, all nutritionists could do were measure energy in foods and the energy expended by people - The idea that sugar okay to add to foods (like milk) because sugar is "empty calories" and at least kids will get the "good stuff" is 100 year-old thinking. This ignores the bad stuff and the consequences of eating all the sugars and refined grains. - The prevalence of obesity has increased 900% in the U.S. since the 60's. Essentially, it is a pandemic. (18:40) - The World Health Organization has stated that the statistical likelihood of curbing this trend is zero. But they won't really get around to the truth of the matter. There is much internal institutional resistance to anyone who believes differently than they do. (24:30) - The sugar-hypothesis wasn't fully-formed enough in the 60's and 70's to counteract the fat-hypothesis that became institutionalized at the time. At the time, the consensus was that dietary fat caused obesity and heart disease. CAUSE OF INSULIN RESISTANCE (32:00) - Even though physicians recognized 2 different types of diabetes as far back as a couple thousand years ago, it wasn't until the 1960's that doctors realized that Type 2 Diabetes was actually a disease of insulin resistance, not insulin deficiency. That is when there appeared some compelling evidence that the fructose component of sugar (sugar is roughly half fructose, half glucose) was the primary cause of insulin resistance. - That is the primary hypothesis Gary is presenting in The Case Against Sugar: If sugar and high-fructose corn syrup, because of the fructose and the speed in which we consume them...if they cause insulin resistance, then they cause Type 2 Diabetes and they cause obesity and they at least exacerbate, if not cause, the diseases associated with them. (39:30) - The "If-Then Problem 1 & 2" - If sugar causes causes these problems then we should get them the hell out of our diet. (41:00) - It is possible that the people who lose a lot of weight on a vegan diet MAY have lost all the weight because the gave up the Coca-Cola, beer and sugary sweets etc that they would also have given up on a low-carb or paleo diet. So the question is did they lose all the weight because they gave up red meat or because they gave up the other stuff (44:00) Vinnie often takes calls from Vegans who are complaining of low energy and stalled weight-loss. Gary explains that the issue is complicated and that one can't come up with a certain solution just based on observation. Controlled medical studies are needed to prove anything conclusively. GOOD SOLUTION VS. BAD MOTIVES (48:00) - We live in a world where the same people who have overseen this horrendous national epidemic are also the ones winning awards and being lauded by the medical community and the government. - The only people who stand to gain from getting the story right except for the patients. - Taubes spoke at a convention with a very prominent vegan owner of a large grocery chain. When Gary tried to get him to start a program designed to help get people off sugar, the person refused to talk about anything other than the meat issue. (50:50) - There is progress in the anti-sugar and Taubes predicts we will be consuming 50% less sugar in 20 years. The problem is how to fix the people who are already broken. (54:30) - Several of Vinnie's guests feel that removing sugar from America's diet would solve the obesity problem very quickly. Gary finds it crazy that we have this dietary intervention that is so effective but the medical and health communities have defense mechanisms in place that prevent them from accepting it. It's crazy that you have this dietary intervention that is so remarkably effective, and yet you've got all these defense mechanisms in place by doctors, by nutritionists, by dieticians, by the pharmaceutical industry and the medical industry and the organizations so that they will not accept it. - Many researchers in the nutrition science initiative are programmed to think one way that they can't escape their paradigm and will never be able to see the truth. (1:00:00) - Doctors assume that patients would rather take a drug than try to change their diets to a ketogenic diet. Also, it's easier for the doctor to prescribe a drug than go through the effort of changing the patient's diet. - Doctors are afraid to rock the boat because of liability issues. Low-fat diets are considered "standard of care" and doctors will get in trouble if they don't follow it. - On the other hand, doctors really do care about their patients and really want to see them get healthier. It is the job of people like Vinnie and Gary to show doctors that it is safe. THE CASE AGAINST SUGAR (1:08:05) - Taubes wouldn't describe Good Calories, Bad Calories as "boring" but rather a "long and difficult read" :-) - While most in the medical industry agree that sugar isn't all that great for you and it probably should be eaten in moderation, the question is how bad can it really be and what could our population look like if we didn't have sugar. - The first chapter of The Case Against Sugar is called "Food or Drug" - The book captures the history of the controversy over sugar and the role the sugar industry played behind the scenes using tactics very much like the cigarette industry. - Mothers have been passing along the predisposition to become obese and diabetic to their children in the womb. - It's a fairly short but comprehensive and understandable book that explains what the role of sugar plays in the diet and society. - There is even a discussion about how tobacco used to be soaked in sugar before turned into cigarettes. - A child of a woman who is diabetic during pregnancy has a massively higher chance of becoming diabetic by the time they're 30. - Add sugar to ANY diet, vegan, carnivorous, whatever, and eventually you will get obesity and diabetes epidemics. - You can see Gary Taubes book tour events here at GaryTaubes.com PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS: Villa Cappelli Olive Oil - Use promo code "VINNIE" Pure Vitamin Club UPCOMING EVENTS: Vinnie's Big Fat Show at Flapper's in Burbank, CA, featuring Gina Grad from 100.3 The Sound and the Adam Crolla show and podcaster Chris Laxamana

Cortisone vs. the R.I.C.E Method - Episode 730

Episode 730 - Vinnie and Andy answer Twitter questions about intermittent fasting, cortisone shots, and the RICE method of injury recovery. (1:10) - Andy laments when Vinnie claims he only invites him to the show when Vinnie can't get a hot piece of ass on the show :-) (5:15) - Andy and Vinnie discuss myths and stereotypes on gay male sex drives vs. female sex drives. INTERMITTENT FASTING? (7:30) - There's a time and place for intermittent or medical fasts if you have broken metabolism is one thing. Fasting because you have 3 lbs to lose is more like dietary trickery and is not necessarily a good thing to do. Gaming the system doesn't work CORTISONE SHOTS? (11:00) - Vinnie has never had a cortisone shot and is not a fan of them. In the past, athletes would be injected with cortisone to mask the pain from an injury allowing them to continue to play. Masking pain with cortisone can do more harm than good, making the injury worse. (12:30) - Bill Walton broke his foot while playing for UCLA and John Wooten. They shot him up with cortisone so he could continue playing. Now he is a fan of ultra-cycling and the 508. He had a lifetime of problems with his foot as a result of that injury. THE R.I.C.E. METHOD (14:00) - Cortisone may have its place, but R.I.C.E. may work just as well: Rest - Ice - Compress - Elevate. Ask your doctor if this is ABSOLUTELY necessary. (16:20) - By Anna's book Eat Happy (16:45) - You can subscribe to the old podcasts for only $2 per month PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS: Pure Vitamin Club UPCOMING EVENTS: Vinnie's Big Fat Show at Flapper's in Burbank, CA, featuring Gina Grad from 100.3 The Sound and the Adam Crolla show and podcaster Chris Laxamana
