9/26: Florida braces for Hurricane Ian. Major revelations from former adviser to Jan 6th committee.
Emergency preparations are underway in Florida as Hurricane Ian continues to strengthen on a collision course with the U. S. The storm is expected to slam into Florida in the middle of this week and there's already a state of emergency there. Former Republican Congressman Denver Riggleman, a former adviser to the January 6th committee, told 60 Minutes' Bill Whitaker about possible evidence and a connection to the Trump White House that we've never seen before. Russia rounds up voters in Ukraine to participate in Vladimir Putin's sham referendums. CBS News spoke to Ukraine's president. A gunman attacked a school in western Russia this morning, and at least 13 people were killed. There are now fewer than 45 days until the midterm elections in November that will decide which party controls congress. Voters in Italy have likely elected the first female prime minister in the country's history. It would be the country's most conservative leadership since World War II.

Hurricane Fiona barrels toward Canada with historic rain and wind, as President Biden vows support for hard- hit Puerto Rico. Thousands try to escape Putin's orders to fight in Ukraine as the U.S. Urges stronger action against Russia. Here in the U.S., an Ohio man who stormed the Capitol on January 6th will not go to prison for his actions. This comes as Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has agreed to be interviewed by the committee. A California man has been arrested and charged with interfering with a flight crew after video showed him punching a flight attendant in the back of the head, on an American Airlines flight. A record number of migrants are being apprehended at the U.S. southern border. Alex Jones uses his latest defamation trial to spread more rage and attack the families of Sandy Hook massacre victims. In Iran this morning, the army vows to quote "confront the enemies" and put down a series of deadly protests, mostly led by women.

9/22: Fed hikes interest rates again to try to slow inflation. Trump and his oldest children are accused of fraud, as DOJ is cleared to review documents seized at Mar-a-Lago.
Overnight a federal appeals court ruled the Justice Department can resume using documents marked as classified taken from Mar-a-Lago in its criminal probe. That comes on top of a new civil lawsuit filed by New York's attorney general alleging more than a decade of fraud in the Trump Organization. The ex-president and his three eldest children are accused of vastly overestimating his wealth, as they sought loans and pursued deals. This morning, Russia is calling up thousands of reserve troops to fight in Ukraine and sparking a lot of public anger. One monitoring group says nearly 1,400 people in 38 Russian cities were taken away by police in anti-government protests yesterday. The Russian president's military escalation was sharply criticized by Western leaders at the United Nations General Assembly. The Federal Reserve raised interest rates again yesterday by three-quarters of a percentage point, for the third time this year. It's part of a continuing effort to slow inflation, but it could lead to a recession.

9/21: Vladimir Putin announces Russian troop mobilization. In Puerto Rico more than a million people are still without power after catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Fiona.
Breaking overnight: President Putin announces Russia’s first troop mobilization since World War II. In a speech to his nation, Russia's president announced a partial mobilization of up to 300,000 military reservists and warned Western countries to stay out of the conflict. Before Putin's speech, world leaders meeting at the United Nations denounced Russia's war in Ukraine. President Biden speaks to the U.N. General Assembly later this morning. Turning to the economy, the Fed is expected to raise interest rates again today in a bid to slow inflation. Hurricane Fiona is now a Category 4 storm. It's heading towards Bermuda, after slamming the Turks and Caicos with winds up to 125 miles an hour. The storm also forced more than 12,000 people from their homes in the Dominican Republic, due to flooding. And in Puerto Rico, more than a million people are still without power, after Monday's landfall. The judge that Donald Trump requested to review documents seized from him by the FBI is showing skepticism about the former president's claims. The midterm elections are less than seven weeks away, and the latest CBS News battleground tracker poll focuses on two very close races in Georgia. Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock leads his Republican challenger, Herschel Walker, 51% to 49% in our poll.

9/20: Hurricane Fiona leaves most of Puerto Rico in the dark, 5 years after Hurricane Maria barreled ashore. Criminal investigation launched into how migrants were flown to Martha's Vineyard.
Hurricane Fiona continues to pick up strength in the Caribbean and is already blamed for two deaths. Fiona hit the Dominican Republic yesterday with sustained winds of 90 miles an hour, leaving a trail of destruction behind. It slammed into Puerto Rico the day before -- triggering an island-wide blackout and extensive flooding. A sheriff in Texas has opened a criminal investigation into how dozens of migrants were lured onto planes, allegedly under false pretenses to Martha's Vineyard. The number of apprehensions of undocumented immigrants is above 2 million this year for the first time. Now we turn to Ukraine, where the fight to retake towns held by Russia is pushing farther east. President Biden is back in Washington after his trip to London for the Queen's funeral, with a long list of things to do. He's expecting a big decision on one of his top economic issues -- and at the same time, he has important business to do with other world leaders. Britain's official mourning for Queen Elizabeth ended overnight. For the royals themselves, it will last another week -- giving them some private time after the public display of grief at the Queen's funeral.

The world says a final goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II as she’s laid to rest today in Windsor. In Puerto Rico, Hurricane Fiona has caused dangerous flash flooding and mudslides after arriving as a Category 1 storm yesterday. The storm also knocked out power for the entire island, leaving millions in the dark. President Biden addresses his own future in a wide-ranging 60 Minutes interview. The president spoke to Scott Pelley about the pandemic, whether he plans to run again -- and, for the first time publicly, about the FBI's discovery of documents marked classified, at the Mar-a-Lago home of former President Trump.
