Republican leader Kevin McCarthy has failed to secure the votes he needs after 11 ballots. The process hasn't gone this far in more than 150 years. There's more good news about Buffalo Bills player, Damar Hamlin. Doctors treating him said he's awake and he has made "substantial progress" -- as he receives treatment following a cardiac arrest on the field Monday. And last night, the NFL said the match-up between the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals will not be rescheduled. The powerful storm pounding California has claimed two lives, including a toddler. This is the latest system, known as an atmospheric river, to sweep across California in recent days. A state of emergency is in effect, as crews race to respond to power outages, flooding and mudslides. Nearly 200,000 homes and businesses are without power. The House begins a 3rd day deadlocked over choosing a speaker, after Republican leader Kevin McCarthy failed to secure enough support in a 6th vote. And despite late night negotiations, there are no signs an agreement is close among divided Republicans. The man accused of killing 4 university students near campus is now in a county jail in Idaho. He was handed over to local authorities after a flight from Pennsylvania. The funeral for former Pope Benedict XVI, who died on New Year's Eve at 95, took place this morning at the Vatican. Benedict was the first pontiff in 600 years to step down. Now, his successor is the first sitting pope to preside over the funeral of a retired pope. An encouraging update on Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin, who collapsed on the field during Monday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. 1/4: House adjourns without a speaker after Kevin McCarthy fails to win speakership. Damar Hamlin’s uncle speaks on his condition.

In choosing a new speaker of the House, Lawmakers adjourned yesterday after Republicans refused to unite behind California Congressman Kevin McCarthy. In three consecutive votes, McCarthy failed to get the support he needs to become speaker. Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin remains hospitalized after collapsing during Monday night's game against the Bengals. Hamlin is still in critical condition. The Bills said he suffered a cardiac arrest after tackling Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. The show of support for Damar Hamlin has spread far beyond football. In buffalo, Bills' fans and community members have been gathering to offer prayers and well-wishes to Hamlin. The FDA has cleared the way for pharmacies to dispense abortion pills directly to patients in states where they are legal. The new rules, released yesterday, will allow certified pharmacies to distribute both pills used in a two-drug medication abortion, to patients with a prescription. The former crypto-mogul, Sam Bankman-Fried, has pleaded not guilty to all charges, including defrauding investors out of billions of dollars. He faces eight counts of fraud, money laundering and other financial crimes. Actor Jeremy Renner is sharing the first photo of himself after he was seriously injured in a snow plowing accident over the weekend. He wants everyone to know he's okay.
