Flooding turns deadly in the Southwest, and it's not over yet. We're in Texas -- where some areas go more than 9 inches of rain. The storms are also creating more chaos for air travelers. In the last two days, more than 15,000 flights were delayed across the U.S., and more than 2,300 others were cancelled. Former President Donald Trump has now taken his first legal action to challenge the F.BI.'s Mar-a-Lago search. This comes as we learn just how severe his situation may be -- with new reports that hundreds of classified records have been obtained from the former president since January. Today is a crucial Primary Day, especially for Democrats -- with races in Florida and New York, that could have major national implications. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the president's top medical advisor announced he's stepping down from his job as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in December. The State Department says it has information that Russia will increase its attacks on Ukraine this week.

Growing fears that the war in Ukraine could cause a disaster at Europe's largest nuclear plant. Federal health officials are boosting supply of the monkeypox vaccine, because of a surge in new cases -- up more than 30% in the last week. Two small planes collided while trying to land in California yesterday, killing at least two of the three people on board them. Shocking new images of migrants packed inside a tractor trailer on the Mexican side of the U.S. border are highlighting the dangers of illegal immigration. Monsoon rains return to the southwest today. Flood watches are up in 5 states this morning.

A huge shakeup at the CDC after its director admits big mistakes were made during the COVID fight. The U.S. has by far the highest COVID death toll in the world. One of former President Trump closest business partners, the former CFO of the Trump Organization, appears set to plead guilty to 15 counts of fraud and tax evasion. This comes as the former president also faces scrutiny for his actions leading up to the January 6th riot, and -- for possibly mishandling classified material. A new national law will allow families of public safety officers to seek death benefits if those officers die by suicide. President Biden signed the public safety officer support act this week. Changes in consumer spending because of inflation are hitting many big retail chains. Another round of hot summer weather is hitting the northwest U.S.

President Biden signed a massive bill called The Inflation Reduction Act into law, after months of negotiations. The FDA is changing its rules to let millions of Americans buy hearing aids without a prescription -- saving them billions of dollars. Fires and explosions continued overnight in Crimea, the region that Russia seized from Ukraine in 2014. Some 25 million Afghans live in poverty. Food prices are soaring, and officials are worried that many malnourished children will not survive the upcoming winter.

The Chinese military announced new military drills near Taiwan -- as tensions continue to mount over visits to the island by American lawmakers. President Zelenskyy is warning Russia not to use Rurope's largest nuclear plant as a shield for its forces, amid growing concerns the fighting could lead to a radiation leak. Author Salman Rushdie's agent says his condition is improving -- after he was attacked on stage during an event in western New York. Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney could lose her seat tomorrow for criticizing former President Trump. Polls show she's badly trailing her primary challenger Harriet Hageman -- who frequently echoes the ex-president's lies about the 2020 election. Actor Anne Heche has died from her injuries, after a fiery car crash on August 5th. She was 53 years old.
