Jimmy McGill suffered from addiction for almost three decades. Starting at age 11, Jimmy followed down the path set for him by his father and grandfather, turning to substances to cope with his circumstances. After a string of arrests and releases, Jimmy was paroled to a recovery residence and began a new phase of his life as a sobriety activist. Army veteran Paul Schiffbauer, Sr. got a civilian job that led him to a criminal enterprise. Hired to collect money from vending machines, Paul was soon in on the real purpose of his company — to run an illegal gambling operation. This was the early ‘90s in Maryland, and video poker games were only supposed to be used for “amusement” purposes. Paul moved up in the organization and ended up lobbying politicians, making “political donations” that were really pay-offs, and racketeering, money laundering, fraud, extortion, and bribery. Sheriff John Staley has over 20 years of law enforcement experience in Central Arkansas. His father and brother also work in law enforcement, so he has strong family ties to the criminal justice system. He is passionate about the Peers Achieving Collaborative Treatment (PACT) program in Lonoke County, which seeks to aid inmates battling addiction.Sheriff Staley also gives his take on two major career events. In 2019, Sheriff Staley struck an inmate at Lonoke County Jail during a search, and footage of the incident was later released. Few people know more about the generational impact of drug use more than Andrew Hager. Andrew had the deck stacked against him before he was born: his mother was a 15-year-old addict, and his father died while driving drunk before Andrew was born. He used drugs throughout his life and was in and out of prison. Two of his four children also served time, and his daughter died from a drug overdose at age 27. Kyle Overmyer served as Ohio’s youngest sheriff, getting elected to the position at just age 34. Drug use and violence landed this Danbury native to maximum security prison. At just 16 years old, DJ Pannell robbed a U.S. Marine with a group of friends, stealing a machine gun and other weaponry.
