THINNING OF THE VEIL

Boyd K. Packer said, "“Should an angel converse with you, neither you nor he would be confined to corporeal sight or sound in order to communicate. For there is that spiritual process described by the Prophet Joseph by which pure intelligence can flow into our minds and by which we can know what we need to know without either the effort of study or the passage of time, because that is revelation.” In this episode we study the doctrines and principles surrounding spirit to spirit communications from the other side of the veil. Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost and therefore the pattern is the same for our loved ones who have passed to the Spirit World. What methods of communication can and will be used? For what reasons would a mission be given for angelic ministrations? Revelation and visions "are around us all the time...but we do not hear or see or experience (them) because we have not tuned our souls to the wave band on which the Holy Ghost is broadcasting," Bruce R. McConkie. The visions and experiences of great men and women in the gospel of Jesus Christ are available to all who seek and who also understand the laws by which they are communicated. If we will turn our studies to the language in which the Holy Spirit communicates we will find many answers we seek and revelatory experiences will unfold. Bruce R. McConkie, in this talk given in April 1971 at General Conference, outlines the steps and processes that are inherent in thinning the veil. He also encourages all to seek for these supernal revelations and to believe that the Lord wants all who desire to come unto Him in this way. Like a lot of latter day saints, Wendy Nelson, did not enjoy family history. In fact the operative word that she described when even thinking about doing genealogy was "guilt". That changed one day as she decided to pray about and for those who needed help on the other side of the veil. What followed that and many other prayers were many miracles and thinning of the veil experiences. In an article written for LDS Living magazine, on November 11, 2019, she describes in detail the angelic interventions that are inherent in the Gathering of Israel. Sister Nelson testifies and encourages all of us to seek after our ancestors and be prepared for the opening of the heavens that follows. To bring about the purposes of our Heavenly Father and Savior, angels have been sent from the very beginning to His children here upon the earth. In the early stages of the last dispensation, Joseph Smith was called upon to be the prophet of the restoration. Many doctrines, priesthood power, and other related instruction related to the restoring of the promises made to the ancient fathers were restored through angelic ministrations. Not just any set of angels, the ancient fathers themselves helped to restore this knowledge in the latter days. Adam, Peter, Paul, Moroni, and others were among the numerous visits to Joseph Smith in his lifetime, restoring the lost knowledge, and promises that would once again, unite the whole of our Heavenly Father's family. Through out the generations of time, beginning with Adam and Eve, the Lord has always extended promised blessings to those children on the earth who make and keep sacred covenants with Him. Our scriptures are replete with promises of land, posterity, and other cherished gifts.  While some of these blessings are well known, there are many blessings that are clearly not understood within the Abrahamic Covenant. What are some of these lesser known promised blessings? How do we as His children in the last days attain to these incomprehensible blessings?  It is left to us to offer these sacred opportunities of being blessed through the Abrahamic covenant to all of our ancient fathers and mothers. Originally given at BYU Education Week on August 4, 2024, Brother Satterfield covers some aspects of the expansive doctrine of the Spirit World. He teaches several principles that relate to the Spirit World and our continuing journey following mortality.
