Quantum Tech Pod Episode 52: Dr. Antti Vasara, President & CEO of VTT
Chris Bishop’s latest Quantum Tech Pod with Antti Vasara, President & CEO of VTT is live!
VTT is a state-owned and controlled non-profit, limited liability company based in Helsinki, Finland with over 2000 people. It is one of Europe’s leading research, development and innovation institutions.
Almost two years ago, the VTT Technical Research Centre deployed Finland’s first operational 5-qubit quantum computer in partnership with hardware start-up IQM. The roadmap lays out a plan to get to a 50-qubit machine by 2024.
In addition to quantum computers, VTT is also actively involved in developing quantum sensors, quantum networks and quantum cryptography solutions leveraging QKD and PQC.
VTT is also a member of Institute Q - the Finnish Quantum Institute whose goal is to raise the readiness of Finnish society for the disruptive implications that quantum technologies will have on both society and the economy at large.
To learn more about quantum innovation in Finland - check out his conversation with Dr. Vasara!

Quantum Tech Pod Episode 51: Quantum Internet Roundtable with Duncan Earl (Qubitekk) and David Wade (EPB)
Chris Bishop’s latest Quantum Tech Pod with Duncan Earl, President & CTO of Qubitekk, Inc., and David Wade, President & CEO, EPB is live!
Chris led a roundtable discussion on the exciting partnership between EPB and Qubitekk to develop the EBP Quantum Network in Chattanooga, Tennessee - America’s first industry-led, commercially available quantum network.
EPB Quantum Network offers quantum-as-a-service to provide quantum technologists with fiber optic infrastructure using the latest quantum equipment and software to accelerate bringing quantum technologies to market.
The network leverages Qubitekk, Inc.’s Bohr-IV, a proprietary system that generates, transmits, and measures qubits. The team is also partnering with Aliro Quantum to use their quantum network controller.
To address workforce challenges, they launched Gig City Goes Quantum, an event designed to introduce, educate, and encourage more people to pursue careers in this emerging technology.
Check out Chris’s conversation on the future of quantum networks with Duncan and Dave.

Quantum Tech Pod Episode 50: infinityQ CEO Aurélie Hélouis
Chris Bishop’s latest Quantum Tech Pod with Aurélie Hélouis, CEO and Founder infinityQ Technology Inc is live!
At age 24, Aurélie was the Deputy Head Officer of the Rafale jet aircraft maintenance workshop for the French navy where she served for 16 years. After moving to Montreal, she received her MBA from McGill and then worked at the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute where in 2019, she founded infinityQ.
Aurélie described how skills she learned in the Navy have helped her as a tech entrepreneur - managing complicated situations in a stressful environment, the importance of anticipating problems and doing whatever it takes to complete the mission.
Her advice to women interested in getting into quantum? "Don’t let anyone define who you are or what you want to do. If you want to do quantum, don’t let anyone stand between you and your dreams – just do it!"
Her company’s proprietary #Ising machine is fast and easy to use compared to other current quantum-inspired technologies. They create artificial atoms that make circuits that behave like a quantum system.
Check out Chris's conversation with Aurélie!

Quantum Tech Pod Episode 46: Andrew Dzurak, Diraq CEO and Founder
Chris Bishop’s latest Quantum Tech Pod with Andrew Dzurak, CEO & Founder, Diraq is live! Andrew was a key participant over 20 years ago in establishing the Australian Research Council Centre for Quantum Computer Technology. Along with his colleague Andrea Morello, they demonstrated the world’s first silicon quantum bits (qubits) in 2012.
Today, they are world leaders in building quantum processors using electron spins in CMOS quantum dots. Their goal is to drive qubit numbers on a single chip to the billions, compared to the hundreds of qubits that exist today.
His company’s SMART qubit protocol delivers extended coherence times using so-called ‘dressed’ qubits that rock back and forth like a metronome rather than spinning in circles – delivering coherence times of more than 230 microseconds. Take a listen to this great conversation!
