This week is a little heavy but it's a good interview as long as you ignore my sick voice and constant sniffling. I spoke with Lisa Curry about growing up in a tumultuous household in Indiana. It gets pretty dark but it shines a light on how prevalent abuse may be and how it effects people for the rest of their lives. We had some deep moments but as two close friends and comedians, we still managed to squeeze in some laughs because we're both so fucked up. This week I am joined by my friend, Johan who is an undocumented immigrant enrolled in the DACA program. We talk about his childhood and how the creation of DACA changed his life and what it means now that President Trump has said he is cancelling the program. It was an interesting look into a lifestyle I had no experience with and I learned a lot. Recently my brother overdosed on what I assumed was the drug I knew he was addicted to. It turns out, his addiction isn't limited to one specific thing. I didn't know he was still doing any drugs. A lot of people in my family never knew he had done them at all. How much was because he was hiding it? How much was everyone else's denial?This is an interview with him, from the hospital where he's currently recovering from the effects of what happened. This is a not a story about overcoming demons, this is just a story about having them.I plan to follow up within 6 months to a year and see where he is at.
