Trump attacks presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris after their first appearance. During a briefing at the White House, Trump called Harris a "very risky pick," along with "angry" and "mad," tropes used against African American women. Biden and Harris took aim at Trump in their first campaign event together in Wilmington, Delaware Wednesday. Sen. Biden picks Sen. Kamala Harris as running mate for the 2020 presidential election. Harris is now the first woman of color to be put on a major ticket. Biden and Harris are to appear for the first time as the Democratic ticket tomorrow. Harris has been a United States senator since 2017 and was previously California attorney general.  Biden says he first met Harris through his son, Beau: "I thought a lot about that as I made this decision."  A Biden official said that Biden called Kamala Harris to offer her the vice president job 90 minutes before the announcement.  Trump responds to Biden choosing Harris as running mate. The United States coronavirus death toll surpasses 156,000 and coronavirus cases top 4.7 million. 34 states above recommended positivity rates.  Trump claims that United States deaths put it at "bottom of the list." Trump says if the New York and New Jersey numbers are taken out of death toll, "Out numbers are among the lowest."  A study shows that the potential coronavirus vaccine shows promising results. Six states band together for a rapid testing plan as Trump administration faces growing criticism for lack of national plan.  Mississippi issues a statewide mask mandate and orders anyone with the coronavirus to isolate or face fines and possible jail time. A college professor wants to teach classes outside, " I now fear being assigned to windowless classrooms" during pandemic.
