Interview Sessions Ep 55 with Leyla Amba Bakali-Laughton
Ep 55 of the Always Better than Yesterday Interview Sessions was with Leyla Amba Bakali-Laughton founder of We are undressed zero waste shop in #Trowbridge
We talked about what inspired her to take action with We are Undressed and how the local community is getting behind the mission.
It’s about raising consciousness and creating a better world for her daughter to live in.
It was also great to hear how personal development is something that has helped Leyla and her mindset along the way.
Be sure to head over to the WAU and give it a follow. If you feel inspired to contribute to her crowdfunding page I am sure she and the community would be grateful.

Interview Sessions Ep 54 with Efrem Brynin
Ep 54 of the Always Better than Yesterday Interview Sessions was with Efrem Brynin, director of Strongmen, a charity that aims to tackle emotional and mental health issues brought about by the suffering from bereavement.
I was a little more nervous before this episode, mainly because I had heard Efrem speak at the Mind Yourself LYL event and it's safe to say I shed a few tears hearing his story.
It was at that event that I realised the power that one talk or one podcast can have on our lives. I realised it can be life changing. Perspective changing.
Sadly, in 2013 Efrem's son was killed on his second tour of Afghanistan.
In 2016 Efrem was #11 on SAS Who Dares Wins Series 2, an experience which likely saved his life as it was there he displayed symptoms that led to his cancer diagnosis.
Not only has he overcome cancer and now in remission, he has joined forces with Dan Cross from Series 3 of SAS WDW and Ollie Ollerton in setting up StrongMen.
There is so much in this conversation we can learn from. Perspective. Purpose. Leadership. Courage. Resilience. Health and well-being.
For me, i'm inspired to live more in the moment, make the most of the simple things and to focus on making the best out of life and situations.
If you are or know a man who is struggling with emotional and mental health issues as a result of bereavement, do share www.StrongMen.org.uk with them.
It could change their life for the better.
I'd love to know what you take away from this powerful conversation.
Interview also available on Facebook and YouTube.
Much love

Character first - what Ben Bergeron looks for in his athletes
This week I started listening to Dottir by Katrin Davidsdottir 2x fittest woman on earth.
Just the foreword itself got me hooked. It was written by Katrin’s coach Ben Bergeron
Ben talks about building athletes from the inside out. It’s something I believe in too with mindset and leadership coaching.
He goes on to describe 4 character traits that he looks for when taking on a new athlete.
1. Coachable
2. Confidence
3. Positivity
4. Passion
I’ve given a quick summary of what these character traits mean in my latest podcast (Link in bio).
It’s a short 5 minute episode. Go check it out.
I’m a couple of chapters through the book. It’s so good.
I will be sure to share my learning with you and who knows, maybe one day I’ll get to interview Katrin and ask her all my curious questions about her mindset.
Much love

Interview Sessions Ep 53 with Rebecca Case-Lawler
Ep 53 of the Always Better than Yesterday Interview Sessions was with Rebecca Case-Lawler of Lawler Sport and Performance Consulting LLC
Rebecca is a former elite tennis player, USCG and now a performance consultant.
Rebecca has a really strong sense of service which led her to joining the USCG after the events of 9/11 only to have to leave a few years later through injury.
Injury again cut short her professional tennis career.
What I loved hearing from Rebecca is that despite this adversity, she “chose to have a different outlook”.
It was also great to hear how her mindset from her tennis days of precision and execution, came in handy on an operation with the USCG.
Based on this conversation, I got a huge sense of hope, optimism, service, excellence and hard work are all core components of her mindset.
Summarised by the phrase “I can, I will”.

Ep 52 of the Always Better than Yesterday Interview Sessions was with Nathan Todd founder of #nolabeldefinesme coaching and podcast.
Born with cerebral palsy, Nathan learned from an early age that life was going to be tough. As he says, he spent a lot of time on the ground.
This weakness soon became his biggest strength. His ability to adapt.
He is the founder of the no label defines me movement. Having no label define you creates possibility he says.
Nathan has a powerful mindset that has helped him adapt and overcome physical adversity and now inspires others to take accountability and ownership of their own lives.
Interview also available on Podcast.

My guest was Will Polston mindset strategist and founder of The Make It Happen Community
It was great to hear Will’s mission to empower 1 billion people to fulfil their potential and make it happen.

We both believe that our thoughts affect the way we act and ultimately the results we get.
There will definitely be something that helps you think differently and if put into practice, it will help you be better than you were yesterday.

Interview Sessions Ep 49 with Matt Hill
Ep 49 of the Always Better than Yesterday Interview Sessions was with retired 2 Para Captain and Systema Instructor Systema Academy Matt Hill
I really enjoyed getting to know a bit more about Matt and his experiences.
It was great to hear how living in Japan for two years shaped his development and actually made his military training at Sandhurst a little easier. Mentally speaking at least!
As a former Captain I was of course curious to know more about his leadership learnings. Of course we discussed what it means to serve and to sacrifice. But his definition of leadership was one I hadn’t heard before and it speaks volumes.
Leadership is the communication of emotion - Matt Hill
Matt owns his own Systema academy in Melksham, Wiltshire. I enjoyed hearing more about Systema and it’s ability to help develop better people through body and mind techniques.
We also discussed a little about mentorship with Systema Vasiliev: Russian Martial Art
As a final thought Matt simply said “Don’t rush, savour the moment.”

There will be something there that will help you and one person in your network be better than yesterday.
Please do comment and share but most important, use what you learn.

Interview Sessions Ep 48 with Corey Hartley
Ep 48 of the Always Better than Yesterday Interview Sessions was a Father’s Day special and I was joined by a very special guest. My son, Corey Hartley, aged 6!
Corey and I had a awesome chat about what he loves, how he’s developing his growth mindset, learning more about his mind and chimp and also what he thinks of my parenting!
You will tell by my face just how proud I am of him. He totally stole the show.
I believe this episode will inspire you and many more within your network to show up, learn and be better.
We all have the power to make a difference to others. Some people take that opportunity every chance they get.
I hope that my son will continue to be that person as he continues throughout life.
