The Case Against Mindfulness Jars and Cool-Down Corners

At some point in your child’s life, they will experience things which may cause overwhelm, and we won't be able to prevent them from feeling these tough emotions. However, we can be the safe place for them to be when things are tough.  Having deep empathy for our children and allowing them to fully emote helps those feelings pass, be processed so our child can move forward and be the cooperative kind kid they are meant to be. Mindfulness Jars, Cool Down Corners and Breathing Techniques may "get" kids to calm down, but at what expense? Where have the feelings gone and what will then glean from our expectation of calm? Listen in as Michelle explains just this.   Episode Highlights: What are the pitfalls of mindfulness jars and cool-down corners and breathing techniques? What can you do when things are difficult for your child? Being empathic shows unconditional love. What is co-regulation and how can we model it? Telling our child they need to calm down might be giving them the wrong message. Having empathy and holding space for your kids to release their feelings is the key to expelling upsets they may be stuck   Check out the Empathy Podcast (https://apple.co/39VgyU1) and learn why our kids need us most when they appear to be at their worst.  Download the FREE guide - HOW TO HAVE EMPATHY How do you come alongside your child when they are upset? What do you say and how can you be supportive when emotions are running high? Self-Healing and Conscious Motherhood with Jennifer Gardner

There are tons of ways to cope with the inevitable challenges brought about by motherhood, and it doesn't always have to be something that involves alcohol. When you have a very demanding job and very demanding kids plus a husband you need to take care of, it can get very overwhelming. You're tired and sometimes, you just turn to drink alcohol to help ease your burden a little bit. Wine is a good way to treat yourself for a job well done but turning to alcohol to deal with your kids and responsibilities at home ain't funny. You want to raise your kids the best way possible but you're unsure of how to do it with everything that you got on your plate. What should you do?  In this episode, I'm joined by Jennifer Gardner, a lovely member of our community and a mother of two. Jennifer's going to share how the method of parenting that she discovered changed the way in which she approaches motherhood, parenting, and ultimately helped her become a better version of herself! This conversation with Jennifer will remind you of why you wanted to be a parent and the joy of being one as she talks about her healing journey, and that there is another way to parent, one that helps you connect with your child!   Episode Highlights: How conscious parenting has helped Jennifer in her motherhood journey Self-care and Jennifer's healing process Transparency and teaching your kids that it's okay to not be perfect Vulnerability and modeling How to really be there for your child without hindering their growth 2 impactful things that Jennifer's learned through conscious parenting Getting curious   Enjoy today’s episode? Redefining Parenting: Cooperation, Not Control with Hannah and Kelty of Upbringing

Resistance is just something that comes with parenting, be it telling our kids to turn off their phones or brush their teeth. But-- that doesn’t always have to be the case. We as parents can make the conscious choice to prioritise our personal relationships, using them to teach our kids what has to be done for themselves, effectively building up their own independence and self-control. In today's episode, I have Kelty and Hannah from Upbringing, here to discuss a new approach to connecting with our kids, so we can raise young adults that have a stronger sense of self and a more stable approach to life. They believe that by choosing to connect with our kids instead of controlling them, it can result in a relationship that positively reinforces self-discipline and accomplishing tasks for themselves-- instead of them simply following our words.   Episode Highlights: Who They Are The parenting dynamics of old Why the old dynamics need to change What you can do instead of power-parenting Focus on building relationships with your kids How to approach your kids to get a better response Kids and their safe spaces   About our Guests:   Hannah and Kelty currently run Upbringing-- an inclusive community that promotes the elevation of growth and connection. Through their beliefs in parenting, they work to redefine how we raise our kids while avoiding the conventional beliefs of old. Holding a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Stanford, the two have grown to become certified Parent Educators through the Positive Discipline Association, Family Life Coaches, and completed programs that focus on mindfulness-based stress reduction.   To take advantage of the Upbringing free Listening guide click here and enter code PEACE.   Connect with Hannah and Kelty from Upbringing: UPBRINGING | Podcast, Speaking, Coaching with Hannah + Kelty Upbringing ⋓ Hannah + Kelty (@upbringing.co) | Instagram Upbringing | YouTube Upbringing | Pinterest   Enjoy today’s episode?
