Jules & Andy: Questions for Crystal Palace, joy for Leicester, and problems at Stockley Park
On today’s episode of Jules & Andy we begin with a look at Crystal Palace and their place among the pack of varying mediocrity in the Premier League. Does this represent a wider problem? What can owners, players and fans of these clubs realistically strive for in these modern times of financial and commercial inequality? We then take stock of Leicester hugely impressive start to the season and assess where Brendan Rodgers’ side may be able to reach. There’s also time for an inevitable (but entirely necessary) chat about VAR, where both Jules and Andy have some ideas as to how the implementation of this technology can be improved!Get in touch via our email: julesandandy@footballrambledaily.com or tweet us: @FootballRamble @andybrassell @julesbreachFootball Ramble Live starts on Thursday! The Ramble: Man City smash Watford, VAR perplexes Spurs and Man United lumber on
New manager bounce, you say? Oh no, Watford, there will be none of that. Man City got back to their ruthless best this weekend, while Liverpool saw off the plucky underdogs of Chelsea and Spurs lost at Leicester because Son Heung-min sloppily strayed a few atoms offside. Down in London, Man United continue to suffer the fate of whatever Faustian bargain they must have made, while Arsenal won a fraught and at times ridiculous game with Aston Villa, because Arsenal gonna Arsenal. The Blizzard: Maccabi vs Hapoel, 1928
On today’s episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, we’re joined by Nicholas Blincoe, the author of ‘More Noble Than War: A Football History of Israel and Palestine.’ We’re heading to that part of the world for today’s match as we take a look at the 1928 Tel Aviv Derby, where Maccabi took on Hapoel for the first time.In these clubs’ formative years, football was an entirely different proposition in Israel-Palestine. Initially seen as too individualistic a sport, it was gradually introduced by the British military and helped by mass immigration of younger people from Austro-Hungarian cities after the First World War. Jonathan, Marcus and Nicholas discuss the background around the two sides, each formed of an entirely different demographic, as well as the 3-0 Maccabi win and its historical significance. For more stories from the annals of football history, visit www.theblizzard.co.uk to explore their archives that contain over 700 articles of stories just like this one!Our live tour starts very soon! The Preview Show: A South Coast derby, Liverpool travel to Chelsea, and Spurs visit Leicester
And so to the South Coast for one of the biggest games of the season (apparently) as Southampton host Bournemouth, while Chelsea host Liverpool, desperately hoping they won’t win a penalty as they simply have no way of knowing what will happen if they do. The true main event is of course Sean Dyche vs Daniel Farke. Will it be Burnley or Norwich who take home the points? Who cares? This one is all about the eclectic sounds of the post match interviews. Alongside all this there’s a cheese-based blast from the past, an injustice for Jeff Hendrick and further ear worms. Brie you later. Our live tour starts very soon! We begin with Real Madrid’s loss to a surprisingly industrious PSG, as Ángel Di María put his former employers to the sword— is Zinedine Zidane’s job already at risk?We then round up the fortunes of the Italian sides with James, as Napoli earned a hard-fought victory over Liverpool and Inter drew with Slavia Prague. The Ramble: Jubilation for Norwich, Chelsea’s youngsters impress, and Arsenal revert to type
In Daniel Farke’s voice:“A pleasing weekend of football in which many of the topics were covered, such as Norwich City’s win over Manchester City which was perhaps not expected, Liverpool asserting their sporting superiority over the struggling Newcastle United and Arsenal showing much quality in the first half of their game with Watford and then perhaps letting themselves down in the second. There is also much discussion of the parting of the Red Sea, which is slightly off of the topics, there is some controversy regarding the designated email section of the podcast and some perhaps unnecessary discussion of dog boobs.”Search ‘Football Ramble’ on social media to find us, and email us here: show@footballrambledaily.com ***Please take the time to rate and review us on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pods.
