845 || reality check finale

It’s automatic. Our brains want to fill in the blanks for us. Especially the information we’re taking in is unclear in any way, we see what we wanna see, before we have time to second guess if that’s what’s happening. This is why I focus so often on positive mindsets and mantras, because from experience, perception can make your life around you go from trash to fun - without having to change anything but your mind. RESOURCES: https://neuroscience.stanford.edu/news/reality-constructed-your-brain-here-s-what-means-and-why-it-matters and http://www.lifesci.sussex.ac.uk/home/Chris_Darwin/SWS/WATCH: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastThe opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. If you’ve ever seen an optical illusion, and then been told what the illusion’s secret was and got a glimpse of the reality - or couldn’t unsee it, you’re experiencing what it is to watch your brain fill in the gaps for us. We bring our life history to these tiny perceptions. RESOURCES: https://neuroscience.stanford.edu/news/reality-constructed-your-brain-here-s-what-means-and-why-it-mattersWATCH: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastThe opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. 842 || reality check || perception

This podcast is no stranger to the concept of our reality being based on our perception of it. It’s fairly common knowledge at this point that our perception shapes and influences our personal experience of reality. The lens through which you interpret the world is different than the lens I interpret the world; which means our experience of people, places, and things - are rooted in our personal realities and may not always reflect the same reality. There are days where my negative lens colors the way I interpret everything I see and do, and there are days where my positive lens colors the way I interpret everything I see and do. Even if the day offers the exact same shit, and I am the same me, I have the potential to have VASTLY different experiences within each of my “moods” and they are all valid, true, and REAL. But this reality - the perceived experience of it all - is not the only reality that exists. There are countless realities we can create for ourselves by changing our perspective - and there are countless realities other’s experience based on their changing perspectives.This is an important thing to understand in general, for our own wellbeing and to improve our connections with others. The fact of the matter is - we are not simply seeing and believing our reality, we’re creating it. I wills ay, this is where it gets slippery. People hear - we create our own reality, and think suddenly they will solve all problems and make all the money and do all the things - but unfortunately, I don’t mean we can alter what’s real beyond our perception. I do mean we can alter our experience through it. Our interpretation of reality can be manipulated, which means it is quite frankly, unreliable. 840 || tackling tasks || final methods

Pomodoro timers on the YouTube, or Real time Youtube work with me sessions, or on various lives you can often find work alongside people - but if you’re brave or craving human connection - there is always the library or if you’re in a decently populated area you may be able to find IRL meet ups or cafes, that works for novelty and reward in my experience - working alongside people who are doing their own thing always makes me feel more alive. Otherwise, binaural focus music or video game music playlists are sometimes a hit when I have to write or research stuff. If you need to learn something, engaging our physical body is really helpful with memory, and cognitive stuff in general and it can act as a bit of a physical reward, or sometimes even a distraction from distractions if you catch my drift. RESOURCES: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_managementhttps://www.verywellmind.com/pomodoro-technique-history-steps-benefits-and-drawbacks-6892111 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/52/17_ruleWATCH: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastThe opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. 839 || tackling tasks || GTD method

Once we learn how to prioritize the shit we need to do, we will feel more clear about the next steps we need to take to do them. This often leads to analysis paralysis or task paralysis like I’ve mentioned in the past. We tend to overanalyze and overthink which causes any decision making or forward momentum to seem impossible. Whether the situation be too complicated or not - the anxiety is enough to suppress our decision making in an unconscious effort to preserve the existing options. This is where time management SYSTEMS come in.  RESOURCES: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_management WATCH: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastThe opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. 837 || tackling tasks || prioritization tactics

Today we’re talking about prioritization: When it comes to getting shit done, it starts with deciding WHAT needs to get done. Major roadblocks are caused by a lack in clarity and direction. Give yourself a minute to figure out what we need to do before you try and figure out how and where and why and when and all that shit.Typically this begins with creating a to do list. That said, having a list of shit we need to do is different than knowing where to begin. Sometimes, excessive list making can leave us feeling like we have more to do than is even possible because we get caught up in the list creation mode. Naturally, we need methods of prioritizing the shit, once we list it.Methods discussed: ABCD, Eisenhower, POSEC, 43 Folders.  RESOURCES: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_management AND Pareto principle AND https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tickler_file WATCH: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastThe opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only.
