The Path To Redemption | WES WATSON
All of us have fallen behind or gotten off track somewhere in our lives (some more than others). Only some decide to get back on track and take control of their lives – to redeem themselves if you will. And, who doesn't respect the hell out of a man who has hit rock bottom and risen from the ashes? That's why I wanted to invite Wes Watson on the podcast. He's arguably one of the most influential men I've had the honor of talking with because of his no-BS, straight-talking approach to improving your life. Today we talked about Wes' 10-year prison sentence, the power of gratitude in dire circumstances, overcoming regret and shame, developing a new stream of consciousness, and how to build your own redemption story. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Cognitive dissonance Running from pain Personal growth External distractions Levering emotional motivation Giving yourself away Bringing worth to life Creating daily systems Regret is your guideline Shifting your mindset Another chance at life Sharing your F*ck-ups Re-writing books Managing negative energy Positive mental attitude Elevating yourself Living out of an abundance WES WATSON My guest today is Wes Watson, strength and fitness coach, but he's so much more than that. Wes simply uses health and fitness as a medium for transforming your mind and your life. Wes spent 10-years in prison and was quickly spiraling into a life of chaos and destruction but while serving his prison sentence, he began to transform his life through the power of his thoughts and daily actions. After being released from prison, Wes has become one of the most powerful voices in self-development, has built a massively successful business, and has inspired thousands of people to transform their own lives through his mentorship and coaching. You're going to hear in this conversation why I wanted Wes to join us as the fire he brings can't help but motivate and inspire you to get your life on track. IRON COUNCIL Gents, we're rapidly approaching father's day and, as we do, it was important to me that inside of the Iron Council we have a discussion about redeeming the relationship with our fathers. Regardless of your relationship with your father, it's likely that some conversations have been left unsaid and there is a strain between you and him. And, regardless of your ability/desire to reconcile with your father, there are steps you can take to come to terms with the relationship that you have with him so you can drive on in your own life with clarity, focus, direction, and purpose as a man. These aren't comfortable conversations, challenges, and discussions we're having inside the Iron Council this month but they're completely necessary if you want to break the chains that may have been holding you back from becoming the man you're wanting to become – not the boy in his father's shadow. If you're ready to have these conversations, challenges, accountably, brotherhood, and more, join us at www.orderofman.com/ironcouncil. Join our exclusive brotherhood, the Iron Council. MAT FRASER | Becoming the Fittest Man on Earth
Gentlemen, my guest today is 4-time CrossFit Games Champion, Mat Fraser. I've always been fascinated with what makes some of the most successful men on the planet tick. That fascination became the foundation for this podcast and I can't tell you how honored I am to have this man, Mat Fraser, - someone I've admired and respected for years - join us to talk about his unusual and extraordinary effort and work ethic. We talk about his background in Olympic Weightlifting, building self-sufficiency, the need for sacrifice and singular focus, how to establish your core values and rules for life, the power of obsession, and ultimately, his path to becoming the Fittest Man on Earth. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Training at home Online competition Risks in CrossFit Hitting your goals An Olympic hopeful A level of sacrifice Putting in the work Keeping things simple Finding satisfaction Measuring success Daily motivation Chasing gratification Identifying values in life Living a simple life Establishing rule to life External pressure MAT FRASER My guest today is 4-time CrossFit Games Champion, Mat Fraser. In an ultra-competitive environment, he has found a way to apply himself and achieve insane amounts of work ethic and drive to become the best in his field – for years! He comes from an Olympic Weightlifting background had planned on going that route until he suffered a back injury in 2009 before shifting his focus to CrossFit. Most of you are probably familiar to some degree with Mat and I've been following him for years now but I was surprised at his level of humility. In fact, he's probably one of the most down-to-earth men I've had on this podcast in spite of his tremendous level of success and accomplishment. I hope that you enjoy listening to our conversation as much as I enjoyed having it. IRON COUNCIL. Gentlemen, I know that last week I told you about this month's topic inside the Iron Council but I thought I'd bring it up again because, after the first week of our discussions and challenges, it is apparent how important the relationship is between a man and his father. And, it's apparent that many of us men have estranged relationships with our dad. This is unfortunate since most of us have learned (for better or worse) how to show up as a man from our fathers. When you band with us in the Iron Council, you'll be able to join in on these powerful conversations and participate in the challenges designed to push you into the deep end of your past, your potential, and the narratives you consciously or subconsciously lived your life by. Guys, I've got a great one lined up with you today with the one and only, Mat Best with Black Rifle Coffee Company. We do things a little different as we answer some live YouTube questions but we cover everything from learning to focus on what's important, building confidence through creation, overcoming introversion, finding something that drives you, dealing with rejection, the power of different perspectives, and learning to become your own man. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Crushing your goals Staying focused Family time Being better than average Developing confidence Prioritizing family Going against the grain Investing in yourself Creating positivity Putting in the work Hating failure Keys to success Manufacturing hardship Embarrassing moments Figuring things out Planning out your day Creating your environment MAT BEST My guest today is Mat Best and he is the co-founder of Black Rifle Coffee Company. Every time I have the opportunity to talk with Mat, I walk away thinking how down to earth this guy is in the face of some incredible accomplishments. He is a former Army Ranger, successful entrepreneur, and New York Times Bestselling author of Thank You For My Service. And, he's someone who has figured out what makes him happy, what he's passionate about, and learned to go all-in on that pursuit. IRON COUNCIL This month, inside the Iron Council, has the potential to become the toughest, most engaging, challenging months we've had since we launched 5 years. The title of this month's topic is "The Father/Son Atonement" and we're going to be discussing and working towards bridging the gap between fathers and their sons. It's clear to me that the lack of fatherhood is a real problem in modern culture and after having one of my YouTube videos go viral (over 1,300,000 views) on the subject of fatherhood, this is clearly a topic that needs to be addressed. If you decide to band with us this month, you'll get access to the assignment, a Battle Team of 14 other men who will help hold you accountable to change and progress, and the challenges we issue that are going to push you further past your comfort zone then you've ever gone. But that's where the real change takes place and this is exactly where you're going to want to be if you're ready to expand. Join us at www.orderofman.com/ironcouncil. How to Make Fear Your Ally | AKSHAY NANAVATI
Fear is something every single one of us deals with (probably on a daily basis). Unfortunately, too many men consciously or unconsciously allow fear to keep them from going after what they want most. So, how can you use fear to your advantage as opposed to a hindrance? That's exactly what I talk about today with my guest Akshay Nanavati, the author of Fearvana: How to Turn Fear into Health, Wealth, and Happiness. We cover the critical importance of becoming aware and accepting fear, flawed mental health, the idea that there are no "bad" or "negative" emotions, why you need to learn to explore the edges of life, and how to make fear your ally. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Confronting the fear of stillness Breaking sobriety Staying in the fight Running marathons Serving the greater good Self-destructive behavior Seeking out suffering Reframe Your Experiences Researching neuroscience Taking it to the next level Self-fulfilling prophecy Norman human response Experiencing diversity It's about the struggle Seek out new problems Owning your reality AKSHAY NANAVATI My guest today is a fascinating man. His name is Akshay Nanavati and he is a Marine veteran, speaker, entrepreneur, ultra-runner, and author of the book, Fearvana. He's overcome so much including a drug addiction after his service, a blood disorder that doctors told him could kill him in boot camp, and combat where his job was to walk in front of vehicles to find IED's. He's dealt with PTSD, survivor's guilt, alcoholism, and depression, and, after all of that, has somehow found the power to overcome all of it and live a life of fulfillment and adventure as a skydiver, mountain biker, scuba diver, and rock/ice climber. Men, you're definitely going to enjoy this conversation and use what Akshay teaches as fuel to light your own fire. IRON COUNCIL. Men, the Iron Council continues to grow as more and more men are seeing the power of what we're doing by banding with other men who are willing to hold each other accountable to accomplishing the most out of their lives. We just had Jack Donovan join us for one of our exclusive Iron Council sessions and we're in the process of bringing on more incredible men to join us for our weekly calls. In addition to that, we're going to give you the framework and network to transform your life from what you've always wanted to what you're actually experiencing. And, that is our whole objective – to bridge the gap between what you know you should be doing and what you're actually doing.
